The wording of the sacramental prayers in D&C (LDS 20:77,79) (RLDS 17) (1833 24) (1835 2) (1844 2) is exactly the same as those in the Book of Mormon in Moroni 4-5. Including the word WINE in Moroni (LDS 5:2) (RLDS 5:3) and D&C (LDS 20:79) (RLDS 17) (1833 24) (1835 2) (1844 2). I know of no revelation that has authorized using the word WATER instead of the word WINE in the blessing. (I know of one church that will make the priests repeat the sacrament prayers until they are word perfect, yet they will change the words without a revelation.) WINE is the living blood of the grapes and represents the atonement of Yeshua / Jesus and the joy that receive from it because of the blood Yeshua / Jesus shed for us. Water has many positive symbols with it, but none of the meanings of water points to the life or blood of Yeshua / Jesus. Although D&C (LDS 27:2) (RLDS 26) (1833 30) (1835 50) (1844 50) says you can use anything for the sacrament, you should not forget that in verses D&C (LDS 27:3-5) (RLDS 26) (1833 28) (1835 50) (1844 50) we are told to not purchase WINE from our ENEMIES, but should make WINE ourselves instead of buying IT from our ENEMIES. And in case you didn’t know, we can’t make our water, but we can make our own WINE. And until the Prohibition forced by the USA government from 1920 to 1933, the LDS / Brighamite church ran the Dixie Wine Mission to make alcoholic WINE for the sacrament. Ironcially the USA government allowed WINE conception for the sacrament during that period. When Prohibition was over, the LDS / Brighamite church continued with no WINE for the sacrament because they were seeking to convert Prostant to their church, and not the truth as they changed the truth to get more members. In fact in the past “The church leaders saw wine not only to be used for the sacrament and medicine” ‘Near everyone drinks wine in Southern Utah’: A brief history of Dixie Wine.

AA For, behold, I say unto you, that it mattereth not what ye shall eat
AB or what ye shall drink when ye partake of the sacrament,

Dixie Wine Mission:

With regards not using WINE from your enemies the Nephites were also careful about this issue, in that they used the Lamanite prisoners as WINE testers to make sure it was not poisoned by the Lamanites.

Alma (LDS 55:30-32) (RLDS 25:5760)
A 30 And many times did they [Lamanites] attempt to administer of their wine to the Nephites,
-BA that they [Lamanites] might destroy them [Nephites]
-BB with poison or with drunkenness.
–CA 31 But behold, the Nephites were not slow to remember the Lord [YHWH] their God [Elohim]
–CB in this their time of affliction.
–CC They could not be taken in their snares;
-BA yea, they would not partake of their wine,
-B-B save they had first given to some of the Lamanite prisoners.
-B–C 32 And they were thus cautious that no poison
-B–C should be administered among them;
-B-B for if their wine would poison a Lamanite
-BA it would also poison a Nephite;
A and thus they did try all their liquors.

Personally I believe the main reason why we can use anything for the sacarement emblems is because of the Nazarite vow. (FYI that is not the same thing as the Nazarite sect.) In that while a believer is in their voluntary Nazarite vow they are not allowed to have anything from the grape vine not wine, vinegar, nor grapes or raisins. An interesting side note is that In Acts 18 and Acts 21 Paul, after His conversion to Yeshua / Jesus, took the Nazarite vow from Torah to hopefully show everything that he believed Torah was still valid. And as far as I can tell someone suddenly died near Paul while he was in his oath, see Acts 21:27 and Numbers 6:9.

Numbers 6:3-4
A 3 He shall separate himself from wine and strong drink,
-BA and shall drink no vinegar of wine,
-BB or vinegar of strong drink,
–CA neither shall he drink any liquor of grapes,
–CB nor eat moist grapes,
–CC or dried.

-BB shall he eat nothing that is made of the vine tree,

Acts 21:23-24,26-27

Numbers 6:5,9

Although in D&C (LDS 27:2) (RLDS 26) (1833 30) (1835 50) (1844 50) we are told we can use what ever we want for the sacrament, YHWH has a strong preference for using WINE as shown in the next verses D&C (LDS 27:3-5) (RLDS 26) (1833 28) (1835 50) (1844 50). And even more so by the words of the sacrament prayer in Moroni (LDS 5:2) (RLDS 5:3) and D&C (LDS 20:79) (RLDS 17) (1833 24) (1835 2) (1844 2). Not to mention every recorded time that Yeshua / Jesus blessed the sacrament He used WINE and one time no one had brought Yeshua / Jesus the WINE that He used.

1 And it came to pass that Jesus [Yeshua] commanded His disciples that they should bring forth some bread and WINE unto Him. 2 And while they were gone for bread and WINE, He commanded the multitude that they should sit themselves down upon the earth. 3 And when the disciples had come with bread and WINE, He took of the bread and brake and blessed it; and He gave unto the disciples and commanded that they should eat.
8 And it came to pass that when He said these words, He commanded his disciples that they should take of the WINE of the cup and drink of it, and that they should also give unto the multitude that they might drink of it.

3 Nephi (LDS 20:5-8) (RLDS 9:42-44)
5 And when they had given unto the multitude He also gave them WINE to drink, and commanded them that they should give unto the multitude. 6 Now, there had been no bread, neither WINE, brought by the disciples, neither by the multitude; 7 But he truly gave unto them bread to eat, and also WINE to drink. 8 And he said unto them: He that eateth this bread eateth of my body to his soul; and he that drinketh of this WINE drinketh of my blood to his soul; and his soul shall never hunger nor thirst, but shall be filled.

Moroni (LDS 6:6) (RLDS 6:6) And they did meet together oft to partake of bread and WINE, in remembrance of the Lord [YHWH] Jesus [Yeshua].

D&C (LDS 89:5-6) (RLDS 86) (1835 80) (1844 81)

-BA only in assembling yourselves together
-BB to offer up your sacraments before Him.

AB pure WINE of the grape of the vine,

With regards to WINE, we should also keep in mind that D&C (LDS 27) (RLDS 26) (1833 30) (1835 50) (1844 50) which gives a preference to using WINE was given in Aug of 1830 while D&C (LDS 89) (RLDS 86) (1835 80) (1844 81) given about two and a half years later on Feb 27 of 1833 and states to use WINE for the sacrament.

D&C (LDS 89:5-6) (RLDS 86) (1835 80) (1844 81) can be a little tricky to understand what is going on in the passage regarding WINE. But knowing the same problem was happening in the restoration as Paul was dealing with in JST 1 Corinthians 11:20-21 helps us to understand the passage. In poth case people were getting drunk off of the WINE that was to be used for the sacrament instead of making sure there was enough for everyone to partake of the sacrament. Not to mention that JST Corinthians 11:20 is making it clear that it’s a retorical question being asked. JST 1 Corinthians 11:17-34 is showing various problems the Corinthians were experiencing with the sacrament that Paul was trying to correct them on.

Both Moroni (LDS 4:2) (RLDS 4:3) and D&C (LDS 20:76) (RLDS 17) (1833 24) (1835 2) (1844 2) brings out how the members in the congregation should be kneeling with the elder or the priest who is blessing the sacrament emblem. How do you kneel with the church unless the church is kneeling also, if it was only the elder or priest kneeling it would say “before the church” not “with the church”.

The practice of having the whole congregation kneel during the sacrament prayer was not uncommon during the nineteenth century, though it was not required, either. In 1902, President Joseph F. Smith approved an Improvement Era editorial that observed that it had been the custom “when the congregations were not so large as they are now” for the whole congregation to kneel, and that it was still not improper. This was in response to a question about whether more than one of the brethren administering the sacrament should kneel during the prayer. “This matter, however,” the editorial concluded, “may be regulated by the presiding authority, according to local surroundings, circumstances and conditions.” (Improvement Era, 1902, 5:473–74.) The custom of all kneeling together was clearly disappearing at that time, though we do not know when the practice finally ended. The important thing is that the sacred meaning of the sacrament and the essential elements of the sacrament service—that is, the purpose, the prayer, and the authority of the priesthood—have remained constant. These, after all, are the things that really count.

I have noticed the Priests kneeling on one knee; I have noticed them kneeling on both knees; I have noticed them holding up one hand, sometimes the right hand, sometimes the left, sometimes both hands, and getting into all kinds of shapes, till, if you should open your eyes, it would certainly cause merriment. I have advised for the sake of uniformity, that it is not always necessary to raise the hands to bless the bread or water. I have also advised that it is not always necessary that the hands should be raised in opening or closing a meeting. If we do raise our hands, it should be done pleasantly, nicely and not grotesquely or in a way that would provoke merriment or criticism by strangers that may come among us or by ourselves. We do not raise our hands in family prayers or in blessing the food. Many prayers are thus offered; there is nothing wrong in it that I know of.
