The Deuteronomist theory, which is a heresy, claims that the book known as Deuteronomy is a late invention. The problem is there is lots of archaeology and textual proof this is just not the case. Not to mention how Yeshua / Jesus quotes the Deuteronomy in the New Testament during His mortal ministry. In addition how it is quoted in the Book of Mormon. And the Book of Mormon actually mentions the five books of Moses.
1 Nephi (LDS 5:10-13) (RLDS 1:158-163)
10 And after they had given thanks unto the God of Israel, my father, Lehi, took the records which were engraven upon the plates of brass, and he did search them from the beginning. 11 And he beheld that they did contain the five books of Moses, which gave an account of the creation of the world, and also of Adam and Eve, who were our first parents; 12 And also a record of the Jews from the beginning, even down to the commencement of the reign of Zedekiah, king of Judah; 13 And also the prophecies of the holy prophets, from the beginning, even down to the commencement of the reign of Zedekiah; and also many prophecies which have been spoken by the mouth of Jeremiah.
Yes there are problems with scriptures that we have today. In that we don’t have the originals, and people make honest mistakes while copying by hand. And at times people made modifications on purpose to corrupt the teachings. But it’s no where near as bad as the Deuteronomist theory, which is a heresy, suggests.
Below are various resources to help with people research into the subject. I will add more as I get time.
- The JST / Inspired Version and Only a Part: Brings up the Silver Scroll that has passages together long before the Deuteronomist theory claims they should be. In addition a quote from Wikipedia that shows it’s not supportable anymore.
- 2025-11-27: Modern scriptures goes against the false tradition people apply to the scriptures not what the scriptures actually say. Yeshua stated the prevalent understanding of His day was wrong. Margaret Barker takes scriptures way out of context and twists them to say something they don’t say. Deuteronomy means second telling, showing how what is in Deuteronomy is in the previous four books of Moses. Yeshua quoted Deuteronomy in the New Testament. Deuteronomy is in the Book of Mormon.
