Summary:
Brief recap of 1 Peter 1. The things that Peter tells gentile converts to lay aside go with Torah commandments. Malice: Leviticus 19:17-18 A commandment against hate, revenge, bear grudges against your brother. It is malice against your brother not to rebuke your brother that he turn away from sin. Administering the death penalty in Torah is loving. It prevents sin and further suffering. Guile: Psalm 34:13. The writings are Torah. Hypocrisy: Deuteronomy 16:19-20. Deuteronomy means second telling. This is also found in Exodus 23:8. Envy: Exodus chapter 20:17. Exploration of “covet” vs “envy”. Envy=covet with malice. Evil Speaking: Psalm 34:13. Evil speaking=false witness or gossip. When problems arise within the church we should try to work things out between the parties who had the falling out. If this fails people who witnessed the problem should be brought in to help resolve the issue. The last resort is church discipline. 1 Peter 1:1 goes very well with Ephesians 4:24-25. We lay these things aside to become a new man. Verse 2 – New converts should learn the commandments that they may grow in the Spirit (behavior). Verse 3 – Yeshua is gracious. Torah is a gift. YHWH/Yeshua is gracious to have given it to us. Verse 4 – “Living stone” is another way of proclaiming Yeshua as the living Torah. Verse 5 – Playing with stone and stones in the same way as Yeshua did with Peter’s name. The rock upon which the church is built is Yeshua and revelation. “Spiritual Sacrifices” points to how we live our lives. Verse 6 – Quotes Isaiah. Yeshua is the chief cornerstone of Zion. The prophets are also Torah. Torah is not limited to the first five book of Moses. Those who truly believe in Yeshua cannot be confounded. Verse 7 – Those who believe are contrasted with the disobedient. Obedience is synonymous with belief. Disobedince is unbelief. Faith is trust in YHWH to fulfill His promises coupled with diligent obedience to the laws upon which those promises are predicated. Verse 8 – Yeshua is the stone which religious leaders in His day disallowed who became the head of the corner. Verse 9 – He is identifying the gentiles as a part of Israel. Israel is those who walk in YHWH’s ways. Chosen is having been Justified and working towards your sanctification. Royal priesthood is addressed to gentiles not Levites showing that Aaronic Priesthood is no longer restricted to Levites. The gentiles were in darkness before being brought to Yeshua. Verse 10 – This verse is not talking about the perpetual divorce of the Northern Tribes. It is simply talking about how the gentiles had been excluded from Israel due to Israeli prejudice. Verse 11 – Fleshly lusts are equated with sexual immorality and gluttony. Gluttony is the outward sign of a deeply covetousness nature. It is a gateway to other sins. Verse 12 – Conduct is a better word for this verse. Be honest in your conduct. Keep Torah and people will see your good works and glorify Elohim. Verse 13 – There is an SJR on this verse. We should be subordinate to the workings of the laws of man. We keep the Tora and accept whatever punishments are placed upon us by the laws of man. We are not to be insurrectionists. Verse 14 – Punishment will come to the evil and praise to the good in the final judgment. Verse 15 – The will of our Elohim is that, by keeping Torah, we shut the mouths of the fools. Verse 16 – Don’t be an insurrectionist. Verse 17 – This verse is a chiasm. Fear should be called as a loving awe. We Love the brotherhood by keeping commandments 6-10. We fear our Elohim by keeping commandments 1-5. Verse 18 – Froward means mean. Servants should be subject to their masters. Verse 19 – This verse turns its readers back to the beattitudes. Verse 20 – Blessed are those who suffer for living in Yeshua’s character. Verse 21 – Follow in the footsteps of Yeshua. Remember His suffering when things ae going sideways. Verse 22 – Yeshua did no sin and never lied. Verse 23 – Peter is here talking about Yeshua’s final hours. Verse 24 – Substitutionary atonement is taught throughout the Tanakh. It is throughout the law. The law teaches the gospel. Peter and Paul respected one another. Peter speaks of Paul’s wisdom and warns us not to twist his words. Verse 25 – The Shepherd is reaching out for all of the straying the sheep.

00:00:03 Good evening, brothers and sisters. Uh
00:00:05 we continue in our uh exploration of
00:00:10 first Peter chapters 1 and two with
00:00:13 surprise surprise 1 Peter chapter 2. Uh
00:00:16 we’ve already covered how even in a
00:00:19 simple greeting to the believers, Peter
00:00:24 covers so much about the
00:00:28 ark of salvation, how things come to how
00:00:32 how it all comes together. And we are
00:00:35 really enjoying we’ve really been
00:00:37 enjoying the uh richness of the tapestry
00:00:41 of symbology that Peter is weaving for
00:00:44 us with very few words. Uh generally
00:00:47 speaking, it’s it it it’s been
00:00:50 beautiful. And so I look forward into
00:00:51 getting into more of this. Um
00:00:56 here uh particularly in verse one, we’re
00:01:00 going to look at uh he’s going to he’s
00:01:02 going to have a series of things that uh
00:01:05 everybody’s supposed to lay aside
00:01:08 and we’re going to look into and d we’re
00:01:11 going to dive into those and see how
00:01:13 each of those are actually uh commanded
00:01:18 out of Torah.
00:01:21 And so let us proceed. If I could have
00:01:24 uh Brennan read verse one for me.
00:01:27 >> Well, let me get it up first.
00:01:29 >> Yep.
00:01:30 >> Make it a little easier.
00:01:32 >> Let me get my police.
00:01:34 >> There you go.
00:01:36 >> Wherefore laying aside all malice and
00:01:39 all guile and hypocrisies and envys and
00:01:42 all evil speakings. Okay. So,
00:01:46 the uh I’ve got here the scriptures for
00:01:52 uh the scriptures for that for those
00:01:57 here. Uh let’s
00:01:59 >> tell me where them where they are and I
00:02:02 will get them.
00:02:02 >> I will go ahead and tell you. Okay.
00:02:05 Leviticus for uh for malice. Let’s look
00:02:09 at Leviticus 19:17.
00:02:16 and also 18 too because those two both
00:02:19 have to do with uh malice.
00:02:25 So
00:02:26 >> Oh, is this are you um suggesting that
00:02:30 the New Testament is actually teaching
00:02:32 Torah?
00:02:33 >> Yes, this is actually what I exactly
00:02:35 what I intend to prove just from this
00:02:37 first verse.
00:02:38 >> Okay.
00:02:40 So that way we’re clear here. That’s
00:02:41 all.
00:02:42 >> Yeah. Exactly. So, Andrew, do you want
00:02:44 to read verses 17 and 18 of Deuteronomy
00:02:48 or Leviticus? Uh,
00:02:51 >> yeah.
00:02:53 >> That chapter
00:02:54 >> 19,
00:02:55 >> the one that’s on the screen.
00:02:56 >> Yeah.
00:02:59 >> Verse 19, you said.
00:03:00 >> Yeah. 17 and 18.
00:03:03 >> Oh, 17 and 18. Okay.
00:03:04 >> Yep.
00:03:06 >> Thou shalt not hate thy brother in thine
00:03:08 heart. Thou shalt in no wise rebuke thy
00:03:12 neighbor any wise oh hold on hold on
00:03:15 hold on sorry. Thou shalt in any wise
00:03:18 rebuke thy neighbor and not suffer sin
00:03:20 upon him. Thou shalt not avenge nor bear
00:03:24 any grudge against the children of my of
00:03:27 thy people. But thou shalt love thy
00:03:29 neighbor as thyself. I am I am Yahweh.
00:03:33 So what we have here is a commandment
00:03:37 against any form
00:03:39 of of
00:03:42 malice.
00:03:44 Thou shalt not thou shalt not hate. Thou
00:03:47 shalt not avenge.
00:03:50 Don’t bear grudges. All of these are
00:03:53 forms of malice.
00:03:55 >> Correct. One thing I do want to bring
00:03:57 out here which is one that gets a lot of
00:03:59 bad rap on is thou shalt not in any wise
00:04:02 rebuke thy brother. Okay. Now
00:04:08 um
00:04:10 King James is not the best in today’s
00:04:12 English. Okay. And another way of saying
00:04:15 this, thou shalt in all cases rebuke thy
00:04:18 brother when thou when he is doing
00:04:21 something against Yahweh’s word.
00:04:25 Yeah. Uh, so how is it malice not to
00:04:29 rebuke your brother?
00:04:33 >> Um, it
00:04:34 >> you’re
00:04:36 >> allowing him to sin,
00:04:38 >> which um
00:04:42 is showing no love for for your brother.
00:04:46 >> Yeah.
00:04:47 >> You’re not showing any love for him if
00:04:49 you’re allowing him to do that without
00:04:51 at least a call out.
00:04:52 >> Yeah. which goes along with this last
00:04:54 part, and shalt not sin come upon him.
00:04:58 Right.
00:04:58 >> Yeah.
00:04:59 >> Yeah.
00:04:59 >> Right. And it’s interesting. It says
00:05:02 here, “Thou shalt on the in the next
00:05:03 verse, thou shalt not avenge or bear any
00:05:06 grudge against the children of thy
00:05:08 people, but thou shalt love thy neighbor
00:05:11 as thyself.”
00:05:13 >> So are are is this suggesting that
00:05:16 taking avenge is not forgiving?
00:05:20 >> Yeah. Uh, vengeance is mine, saith yo.
00:05:24 >> Oh, yeah. That’s right. Thank you.
00:05:26 >> Vengeance is mine, not thine.
00:05:30 >> Yeah.
00:05:31 >> The our duty is to love our neighbors as
00:05:34 ourselves. Now, so I here’s a here’s a
00:05:38 question that often
00:05:41 there’s a question that a lot of people
00:05:43 I that I wonder if a lot of people
00:05:45 wonder at, but I have a lot of questions
00:05:48 that a lot of people don’t ask because
00:05:49 I’m just always asking questions.
00:05:53 But
00:05:55 when you administer the Torric death
00:05:58 penalty, are you loving your neighbor?
00:06:02 >> Actually, yes. Uh, and this sounds kind
00:06:04 of weird, but the reason it is because
00:06:07 you’re preventing him from sinning more,
00:06:09 thus condemning himself more. In
00:06:11 addition, you are loving the other
00:06:15 neighbors and preventing them from
00:06:17 getting harmed themselves. So, you’re
00:06:20 loving in two different ways.
00:06:22 >> Makes sense.
00:06:25 >> So, there you go.
00:06:27 even when you are
00:06:31 even when you are uh okay so next so
00:06:36 there you have it with malice this is
00:06:38 why we need to lay aside malice
00:06:42 let’s go to Psalm 34
00:06:46 um
00:06:51 verse
00:07:00 Okay,
00:07:01 >> this is a commandment. Now, this since
00:07:04 he’s teaching Torah here, this is
00:07:06 another example that even the writings
00:07:09 are considered Torah by the apostles.
00:07:13 >> Yes. Um and
00:07:15 >> um what song? It was either Paul or
00:07:18 Yeshua that stated that the writings was
00:07:22 um Torah. I’m I’d have to double check
00:07:26 the notes. I’m wondering if it was
00:07:28 >> Yes. Yes.
00:07:30 >> I I I tend to think it’s Yeshua.
00:07:32 >> Um so I it sounds like I was right. Um
00:07:35 and and and Ben I’ll let Ben decide if
00:07:38 we get into that sidetrack or not. But
00:07:40 >> uh but the I I think it’s sufficient to
00:07:43 simply state that the apostles uh the
00:07:46 early the earliest Christ the earliest
00:07:51 of what many people would call Christian
00:07:54 the Christian church. Uh they knew that
00:07:58 the writings were Torah.
00:08:03 So let’s see 34:13
00:08:06 Stephen.
00:08:08 >> Yeah. Keep thy tongue from evil and thy
00:08:11 lips from speaking guile. So basically
00:08:14 this is going off of don’t speak evil
00:08:16 about other people.
00:08:17 >> Yeah. So, and and so this is actually a
00:08:20 commandment here in Psalm 34:13 that
00:08:24 actually goes against both the guile and
00:08:26 the evil speaking that Peter is telling
00:08:28 us that we need to lay aside here. Now,
00:08:31 sometimes people have New Testaments
00:08:34 with the Psalms and the Proverbs.
00:08:38 So, apparently, uh people still like
00:08:41 Psalms, including this one.
00:08:43 >> Right.
00:08:44 >> Right. Well, I wonder if they would like
00:08:47 if they I wonder if they would like
00:08:48 Psalm the Psalm 119 so much if they knew
00:08:51 that it was talking about the Torah. Um,
00:08:54 >> probably not. But let’s let’s not get
00:08:58 them to not like it. Okay.
00:09:01 >> Yeah, that’s true. That’s true. So,
00:09:05 >> sorry. That was a little No, you’re
00:09:08 completely right. And I actually have a
00:09:10 post on that.
00:09:13 Okay.
00:09:15 Yes. Yes. Yes.
00:09:17 >> So, okay. So, now for hypocrisy,
00:09:23 >> let’s go to Deuteronomy chapter 16
00:09:26 verses 19 and 20.
00:09:30 >> Deuteronomy
00:09:32 19.
00:09:34 >> 16, right?
00:09:35 >> Mhm.
00:09:36 >> Oh, 16.
00:09:38 >> 16.
00:09:39 >> I’m working on it.
00:09:43 Okay.
00:09:45 >> Okay. So, I’ll read that.
00:09:48 Thou shalt not rest judgment.
00:09:51 Thou shalt not respect persons, neither
00:09:54 take a gift. For a gift, For a gift doth
00:09:57 blind the eyes of the wise, and pervert
00:09:59 the words of the righteous. This is all
00:10:02 the the the perversion of the words of
00:10:05 the righteous and the blinding the eyes
00:10:06 of the wise. That’s all about hypocrisy.
00:10:09 That which is altogether just shalt thou
00:10:12 follow that thou mayest live. That which
00:10:15 is we one cannot be altogether just if
00:10:19 they are saying one thing and doing
00:10:21 another.
00:10:23 >> Yeah. Now so uh it been done. Are you
00:10:26 done?
00:10:27 >> Yeah. That thou mayest live and inherit
00:10:29 the land which Yah uh which Yu giveth
00:10:34 thee. Now I’m done.
00:10:36 >> Okay. So, uh, Deuteronomy is the second
00:10:39 telling. And this, um, one other telling
00:10:43 I know off top of my head is in Exodus
00:10:46 at the mount, actually.
00:10:48 >> Okay. Yeah. So, bring it up.
00:10:50 >> Okay. Let me pause it because I don’t
00:10:52 remember the exact chapter, so give me
00:10:53 one second.
00:10:54 >> Mhm.
00:10:57 >> Okay. So, I did remember kind of the
00:11:00 right area. Um but it ends up being
00:11:04 Exodus 23:8.
00:11:06 So
00:11:07 >> 23:8.
00:11:08 >> Okay.
00:11:09 >> Thou shalt not take gift for the gift
00:11:13 blindest the wise and pervertest the
00:11:15 words of the righteous. So basically
00:11:19 if someone’s getting a gift that will
00:11:22 alter their judgments uh away from
00:11:25 righteousness, what’s going
00:11:27 >> Yeah. So the thing is is that when we
00:11:30 start taking gifts
00:11:33 for our judgment, our judgment is
00:11:35 automatically in question
00:11:37 because it is for sale.
00:11:42 And this is the very essence of
00:11:44 hypocrisy
00:11:46 that for
00:11:49 perception
00:11:51 we
00:11:52 speak a good line and we show a good
00:11:55 line but we don’t walk a good line.
00:12:03 Yeah. And this kind of brings out how um
00:12:06 th this is part of the 10 divisions of
00:12:11 Torah that was was received on the mount
00:12:13 with Moses. Okay.
00:12:16 >> So, and these are giving explanations
00:12:19 how to keep those 10. And this is a big
00:12:22 deal one in them. Of course, they’re all
00:12:25 big deals, but
00:12:26 >> yeah.
00:12:26 >> Um Yeah. And so and so there and so this
00:12:30 is so that that is that is for hypocrisy
00:12:36 and the and of course I do think it’s
00:12:39 pretty clear um uh where we’re going to
00:12:42 find the where we’re going to find the
00:12:44 Torah commandment against envy. I do
00:12:47 believe it’s in Exodus chapter 20
00:12:50 plus one of the places.
00:12:56 Let’s see. Uh go it’s thou shalt not the
00:13:02 middle
00:13:03 >> verse 17.
00:13:05 >> Okay. So that was close.
00:13:08 >> Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s
00:13:10 house. Thou shalt not covet thy
00:13:12 neighbor’s wife, nor his man’s servant,
00:13:14 nor his maid servant, nor his ox, nor
00:13:15 his ass, nor anything that is thy
00:13:17 neighbors. Wait, you mean is this a
00:13:20 commandment against envy?
00:13:24 >> It says covet, not envy. Come on.
00:13:28 >> Okay. Can we I think we should Okay,
00:13:31 with that granite, let’s look up covet.
00:13:35 >> All right, you’re all right.
00:13:39 No, it’s the same thing, but we can go
00:13:40 look it up.
00:13:42 >> Yeah. Yeah, I you know, because you
00:13:45 brought up an argument that somebody
00:13:46 would put out there.
00:13:48 >> Yeah, I was bored joking, but
00:13:50 >> Yeah, but somebody’s
00:13:54 going to put that out there.
00:13:55 >> Oh, yeah. Yeah, I’m sure someone has.
00:13:57 There you go.
00:13:58 >> All right. So, covet uh to
00:14:04 desire or wish for with eagerness. to
00:14:06 desire earnestly to obtain or possess in
00:14:08 a good sense. Okay? Or to desire
00:14:11 inordinately to desire that which it is
00:14:13 unlawful to obtain or possess in a bad
00:14:16 sense. So this is the uh this is
00:14:19 definitely envy. You want something that
00:14:22 is somebody else’s.
00:14:23 >> Well, yeah. And here actually this is
00:14:25 the 10 division of Torah. But if you
00:14:29 want, I can go go.
00:14:35 >> Oops.
00:14:36 >> NV.
00:14:43 >> Is it Y? What?
00:14:45 >> Yes. E N V Y.
00:14:48 Did I just
00:14:50 >> E N V Y?
00:14:52 >> Oh, V Y. Not E. Okay.
00:14:56 Okay.
00:14:57 >> Okay. So envy uh to feel uneasiness,
00:15:01 mortification or discontent at the side
00:15:03 of superior excellence, reputation or
00:15:06 happiness enjoyed by by another. Uh to
00:15:10 to that sounds like an inordinate
00:15:13 longing for something that is not yours.
00:15:16 uh to uh repine
00:15:19 to repine at another’s prosperity to
00:15:22 fret or grieve oneself at the zeal at
00:15:25 the real or supposed superiority of
00:15:27 another and to hate him on that account.
00:15:29 So this is envy with mal so this would
00:15:32 be coveting with malice uh envy that’s
00:15:35 where that is envy not that of the
00:15:38 oppressor yes uh to grudge to withhold
00:15:42 maliciously.
00:15:43 Yeah.
00:15:45 So all of these things are all about
00:15:48 they’re showing you that they’re
00:15:50 basically it’s the same thing. It’s
00:15:53 >> I would say it’s a higher degree than
00:15:55 just covet.
00:15:56 >> Yeah. It’s it is it is covetousness with
00:16:00 malice.
00:16:01 >> Yeah. Yeah.
00:16:03 >> So
00:16:06 so we’ve got a double we’ve got a double
00:16:08 whammy in the Torah scriptures we’ve
00:16:10 looked up so far against this against
00:16:13 envy.
00:16:14 >> Yeah. which goes along with Deuteronomy
00:16:16 be being a second telling.
00:16:21 >> Sorry. I mean, I I actually did that on
00:16:23 purpose. I I’ll be honest.
00:16:27 >> Okay. Well, it wasn’t that funny. Um so,
00:16:31 what do you want?
00:16:32 >> It was Johnny.
00:16:33 >> Okay.
00:16:34 >> It was the journey. So, yeah, that uh
00:16:37 that let’s go to um let’s go to uh let’s
00:16:42 go back to Leviticus 19, sorry, to Psalm
00:16:45 34 because that also is our evil. That’s
00:16:50 also the one that’s giving us our thing
00:16:52 against evil speaking. Psalm 34:13
00:16:57 to repreze that one more time.
00:17:02 Okay.
00:17:05 Okay. Keep thy tongue from evil and thy
00:17:08 lips from speaking God. Keep thy tongue
00:17:11 from evil. Evil speaking.
00:17:15 And no, it’s not just evil speaking of
00:17:17 priesthood leadership
00:17:20 because they’re just not big enough to
00:17:22 be able to take it.
00:17:24 >> So, hold on. Is is it evil teaching to
00:17:26 call somebody out for what they uh for
00:17:29 for things that they’re saying that
00:17:32 aren’t right?
00:17:35 >> Evil speaking is not
00:17:37 >> the evil speak evil speaking is when you
00:17:41 create a slander against somebody that
00:17:45 is not true. It is false witness.
00:17:50 >> That’s not good.
00:17:52 >> Correct. And for members of the church,
00:17:55 there is a procedure on how to take care
00:17:58 of
00:18:01 disputes that come up and it’s not
00:18:04 telling it to your neighbor. Okay?
00:18:07 >> It’s first telling it and so I forget
00:18:09 it’s in Matthew’s one place and there’s
00:18:12 other places. It’s in I think also DNC
00:18:15 42. Anyways, there’s lots of places for
00:18:17 it. Um, but
00:18:19 >> first you take it between you and that
00:18:21 person that has offended you.
00:18:25 You guys try to work it out yourselves.
00:18:28 >> Yeah. And then you go work it out with
00:18:30 witnesses and then you go to the elders
00:18:34 of the church.
00:18:35 >> And technically, you would want those
00:18:38 witnesses.
00:18:40 There’s a there’s a part I don’t know
00:18:43 that this is actually written anywhere,
00:18:44 but you might want those witnesses to be
00:18:47 uh impartial witnesses.
00:18:50 That makes sense. Um and so the
00:18:53 witnesses should be someone who’s
00:18:55 actually witnessed
00:18:58 the the event that’s in question.
00:19:01 >> Yes. And yes,
00:19:03 >> they should stick to what actually
00:19:05 happened and not what you want it to be
00:19:09 or or them.
00:19:11 >> They partial
00:19:13 >> that w the witnesses are not witnesses
00:19:17 of your interactions together. The
00:19:20 witnesses are witnesses of the crime.
00:19:24 >> Yes. Of the crime in question.
00:19:27 um which would include your interactions
00:19:31 between each other, but not the one that
00:19:34 you went to go try to take care of it in
00:19:36 private first,
00:19:38 >> right? And so the main thing is um
00:19:42 however you do this, everybody should be
00:19:46 should
00:19:47 these witnesses should stick to the
00:19:49 facts.
00:19:51 um you know as a uh as it’s said in an
00:19:55 old TV show just the facts ma’am
00:19:58 um
00:20:01 and so that’s a that’s a uh that’s a
00:20:04 very important that’s actually a very
00:20:06 important thing
00:20:07 >> yes
00:20:08 >> okay so this this injunction in chapter
00:20:11 2 verse one is also repeated in
00:20:14 Ephesians
00:20:17 in Ephesians chapter 4
00:20:22 uh verse uh
00:20:27 verse uh
00:20:30 verse 25 and it’s and we but I want to
00:20:33 read 24 and 26 too
00:20:38 so that we have uh so Brennan if you
00:20:41 could read those for us
00:20:45 and that he put on a new man which after
00:20:47 God has created in righteousness
00:20:49 and true holiness. Wherefore putting
00:20:52 away lying, speak every man the truth
00:20:54 with his neighbor, for we are members
00:20:56 one of another. Be angry and sin not.
00:20:59 Let not the sun go down upon your wrath.
00:21:03 >> Okay. And neither give place to the
00:21:05 devil. So I think it I the reason I
00:21:09 wanted that 24
00:21:11 in there as well. Um
00:21:15 is that this is this actually put puts
00:21:19 it into the context whereby for why for
00:21:23 why we are actually laying these things
00:21:25 aside. It says we become the new man
00:21:29 after we have been begott after we have
00:21:32 been begotten a new under the under the
00:21:35 uh by the mercy of Christ
00:21:39 i.e He received the baptism received
00:21:42 baptism of fire or justification.
00:21:46 Um we need to
00:21:48 >> which attaches baptism of water. Right.
00:21:52 >> Right.
00:21:53 >> We Yeah. We need to we we really
00:21:56 literally
00:21:58 don’t
00:21:59 you know
00:22:02 you’ve got to be willing to be a new
00:22:03 man.
00:22:05 You can’t it otherwise you will not put
00:22:10 these things away from you.
00:22:12 >> In a new man is not a stubborn man in
00:22:14 Yahweh’s ways. Okay.
00:22:18 >> Yeah.
00:22:21 So that so that so I want wanted to go
00:22:25 into that. So let’s go back now to uh
00:22:28 new translation. So, as you can see,
00:22:31 Peter is teaching Torah
00:22:34 uh to those who have received of the
00:22:38 mercy of Yeshua
00:22:42 >> or or with the justification, it’s
00:22:44 specifically grace, which grace is a
00:22:46 subset of mercy.
00:22:49 >> Mercy is a subset of grace
00:22:51 >> or Oh, did I do it wrong? Sorry. My bad.
00:22:54 >> Yeah,
00:22:54 >> mercy.
00:22:55 >> You’re You’re right. You’re right. I I
00:22:58 >> I I I sometimes I get those ones mixed
00:23:00 up. Sorry.
00:23:01 >> Yeah. So mercy is the subset of grace.
00:23:04 Um and as a result of this,
00:23:10 which is why you have that word
00:23:11 wherefore at the beginning of the
00:23:13 chapter for this cause, because you have
00:23:16 received this.
00:23:21 >> Lay aside all malice. laying aside all
00:23:23 malice and all guile and hypocrisies and
00:23:26 envys and all evil speakings. Verse two,
00:23:28 Andy,
00:23:30 >> hold on.
00:23:32 Verse two,
00:23:36 as newborn babes desire the sincere milk
00:23:40 of the word, that ye may grow thereby.
00:23:44 Okay. So, right off the bat, should we
00:23:47 be uh right off the bat, should the
00:23:49 newly baptized person be looking for
00:23:52 mysteries?
00:23:53 >> Uh, no.
00:23:55 >> No. And and so, um, just so people know
00:23:59 what Ben’s getting at, just in case. Um,
00:24:04 the milk is the basics, okay? The milk
00:24:07 is actually specifically commandments,
00:24:10 okay?
00:24:11 Um and and while you’re learning the
00:24:14 commandments, the basics, you’re not
00:24:17 learning the calculus. Okay.
00:24:19 >> Yeah. Uh you don’t learn Yeah. or the
00:24:24 you don’t learn algebra before you learn
00:24:26 basic arithmetic.
00:24:28 >> No. outside of
00:24:30 >> um and so and so here the these converts
00:24:36 remember he’s writing to
00:24:40 gentile converts
00:24:43 among the
00:24:43 >> daspora
00:24:45 >> now yes though he I do think this letter
00:24:50 is going specifically to leadership of
00:24:53 the converts but there are still
00:24:55 converts themselves that are leaders
00:24:58 within that congregation. Okay.
00:25:00 >> Right. So, and he and so he’s
00:25:03 instructing them as newborn babes, learn
00:25:07 the commandments.
00:25:09 >> Yeah.
00:25:11 >> Learn the commandments
00:25:14 that ye may grow thereby.
00:25:17 >> And uh this may sound
00:25:20 simplistic,
00:25:22 but these simple things actually have a
00:25:26 lot of depth to them. if you want to sit
00:25:29 down and talk about it actually.
00:25:32 >> Yeah. Yeah. But Yeah. And so this and so
00:25:36 it’s really important that those who
00:25:39 enter into uh the that enter into the
00:25:43 way enter into covenant with with Yeshua
00:25:46 Hamashiach
00:25:47 um that they seek those commandments.
00:25:51 >> They seek to understand them. They seek
00:25:54 teachers who can expound them and who
00:25:56 are living them.
00:25:58 because it I I I’m sorry if you’re a
00:26:00 teacher who can expound all the
00:26:01 commandments beautifully, but you’re not
00:26:03 living on one of them.
00:26:07 You’re not you shouldn’t be teaching.
00:26:10 Okay. So, I I’m going to um dial Ben
00:26:13 back just a little bit. U because most
00:26:16 of the time the teachers are ironic
00:26:19 priesthood as we call it today.
00:26:21 >> That’s that’s true. since Aaron and
00:26:24 they’re still working some through some
00:26:27 things themselves.
00:26:29 But the thing is, um, and I think this
00:26:33 is more what Ben’s trying to get at,
00:26:35 okay? Is they’re not hiding it.
00:26:39 >> They’re open and honest, and when they
00:26:40 make a mistake, they realize it and they
00:26:43 go fix it.
00:26:44 >> Yes.
00:26:45 >> Okay. They’re they’re not ones that are
00:26:49 trying to uh do a lot of sugar talk to
00:26:53 make it look like they’re fine when
00:26:54 they’re not. Okay.
00:26:55 >> Right.
00:26:58 >> So,
00:27:00 okay. So, let’s see. Uh who just read
00:27:04 verse two?
00:27:05 >> Me.
00:27:06 >> Okay. Stephen, if you’d read verse
00:27:08 three.
00:27:08 >> Yeah. If so be ye have tasted that the
00:27:13 Adonai is gracious. Um
00:27:16 >> yes.
00:27:18 >> And so this Adonai here, yeah, it does
00:27:20 say Lord, but I I just from looking at
00:27:24 some of the earlier later chapter, I’m
00:27:27 pretty sure it’s Adonai, but this is
00:27:28 referring to Yeshua. Okay. And is Yeshua
00:27:32 that is gracious and that is sweet to
00:27:35 the taste which actually goes along to
00:27:38 salvation and Torah which the part here
00:27:42 that they’re actually kind of talking
00:27:45 about is Torah here and Torah is a gift
00:27:49 and so it is a gracious that he gives it
00:27:52 to us.
00:27:53 >> Mhm. Yeah. And so and that is a that is
00:27:57 a good that is a good thing too. is also
00:28:00 talking about the his graciousness and
00:28:02 taking us under his covering
00:28:04 after we’ve covenanted to keep him to
00:28:07 keep his commandments.
00:28:09 Um
00:28:10 because this is actually finishing up
00:28:13 the idea that was begun at the end of
00:28:15 chapter one. Uh because you’re this is
00:28:20 he he’s giving them instruction as to
00:28:24 um
00:28:26 now that you’re now that you’re under
00:28:28 that covering since you’ve tasted of his
00:28:30 graciousness. Now that you’re under that
00:28:33 covering, see that ye learn the
00:28:36 commandments. Stay under the covering.
00:28:39 >> Yeah. Keep eating it because it it’s
00:28:41 Torah. That’s it. It’s it’s delicious.
00:28:44 Just keep eating it and living it and
00:28:46 have it become you actually
00:28:50 >> step into what you eat.
00:28:52 >> Step into your own private land flowing
00:28:54 with milk and honey.
00:28:56 >> Yeah.
00:29:01 because Yahul has one for you if you
00:29:04 will keep your covenant that you make
00:29:06 with him to obey all his commandments,
00:29:11 >> not just the ones that the Christians
00:29:12 said were cool.
00:29:17 They’re all cool actually.
00:29:20 >> I I’m just
00:29:23 >> a lot of people don’t understand that
00:29:25 and so that’s why they don’t think
00:29:27 they’re cool. Mhm.
00:29:29 >> Um, you know, the coolest kid on the
00:29:32 block is Yeshua
00:29:34 >> and
00:29:35 >> he
00:29:37 kept them all.
00:29:38 >> Mhm.
00:29:41 >> I want to be like the cool kid. I want
00:29:44 to be like Yeshua. Keep them.
00:29:48 >> Amen. Amen. If so be you have tasted
00:29:51 that Yeshua is gracious to whom coming
00:29:56 as onto a living stone
00:30:00 disallowed indeed of men but chosen of
00:30:04 Elohim and precious.
00:30:08 So we’re coming to Yeshua,
00:30:12 the living.
00:30:13 >> Yeah. Yeah. Oh, go ahead. Sorry. the
00:30:16 living revelation, the living word.
00:30:21 >> Yeah. So, um I I think a lot of what
00:30:24 this living stone is going off of is the
00:30:28 two stone tablets of Torah, okay? Which
00:30:32 would go along with the tasting of
00:30:34 honey. Um, but
00:30:38 rather than just saying the two tablets,
00:30:40 they’re saying it’s Yeshua
00:30:43 who is the perfect personification as in
00:30:47 John 1 states. This is another way of
00:30:51 Peter stating the same thing.
00:30:55 >> Yes.
00:30:55 >> Yes
00:30:57 Torah is what that statement is saying.
00:31:02 >> Yeah. And so uh uh and verse five,
00:31:05 Brennan,
00:31:08 >> ye also as lively stones are built up a
00:31:11 spiritual house and holy priesthood to
00:31:14 offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable
00:31:17 to God by Jesus Christ. Okay. So, here
00:31:20 here’s something really cool because we
00:31:23 see here Peter playing with stone and
00:31:26 stone just like Yeshua played with stone
00:31:29 and stone with his name in Matthew
00:31:32 chapter 16.
00:31:35 >> Yeah, that that’s a good point. Yeah,
00:31:39 >> we are.
00:31:41 Which shows
00:31:44 absolutely that the rock upon which the
00:31:47 church is built is
00:31:50 Yeshua
00:31:54 >> and Revelation
00:31:55 >> and Revelation. Yeah. Which is why which
00:31:58 is why I was also pointing out the
00:31:59 living stone, the living word. Um, and
00:32:03 so yeah, Yeshua and Revelation, it’s
00:32:06 absolutely it.
00:32:08 It’s not Simon Peter. Simon Peter is a
00:32:11 lively stone.
00:32:14 Yeah, we we
00:32:17 I don’t know if Ben wants to sidetrack
00:32:19 on that, but we could go look at that.
00:32:20 It’s not quite what a lot of people make
00:32:22 it out to be. So, I’ll just leave it at
00:32:25 that unless Ben wants to do more. Yeah,
00:32:26 I I think I think that’s uh I I think
00:32:30 that to sidetrack into that would be
00:32:33 probably a little more than uh
00:32:37 because I really there’s a fair few
00:32:40 verses left.
00:32:43 I you’re leading so I’m following.
00:32:45 >> So um so I’m I we’ll we’ll just say that
00:32:49 there’s more to it and maybe at some
00:32:51 point we’ll visit that. Uh unless uh we
00:32:55 want to throw unless there’s something
00:32:57 that we have uh a recording on that goes
00:33:00 into that already. Uh
00:33:02 >> not that I know of off the top of my
00:33:03 head.
00:33:03 >> Not that you know of. Okay. But we might
00:33:05 go into that later more in depth later.
00:33:09 Um but here that same plane of stone and
00:33:13 stones um you build up a spiritual house
00:33:18 and holy priesthood to offer up
00:33:20 spiritual sacrifices. Does this mean
00:33:21 everything is now spiritual and we don’t
00:33:23 have to do that there will never again
00:33:26 be a physical sacrifice? Because this is
00:33:28 how some this is how a lot of this is
00:33:31 one of those scriptures that a lot of
00:33:32 people will pull out of context to uh
00:33:36 say the sacrifice is spiritual. No.
00:33:39 >> Uh, no. It actually does not say that. I
00:33:42 can see why people would want that. But
00:33:44 when you take everything into context,
00:33:47 it definitely does not. But it does, it
00:33:50 is bringing out how um uh how we live
00:33:54 our daily lives is actually an offering
00:33:57 unto Yeshua
00:33:59 >> is what it’s bringing out.
00:34:01 >> Well, and I would also
00:34:02 >> it has nothing to do with animal
00:34:04 sacrifices or not because they were
00:34:06 still doing them. Paul uh Acts
00:34:11 19 through 21 if I remember correctly. I
00:34:13 thought
00:34:14 >> yes
00:34:15 >> actually did some and there’s others but
00:34:18 anyways um
00:34:21 >> they’re still valid even after Yeshua’s
00:34:22 death and resurrection. They will be
00:34:24 >> Yeah. There’s there’s loads of
00:34:26 references to the apostles worshiping at
00:34:28 the temple.
00:34:29 >> Yeah. Yeah. And doing animal sacrifice
00:34:32 to be specific on that. And there’s
00:34:35 stuff about the prophecy of the third
00:34:37 temple where it actually specifically
00:34:39 states animal sacrifice. So
00:34:41 >> yeah, so these spiritual sacrifices that
00:34:44 is a reference to the life that we live
00:34:48 which is once again showing that there
00:34:50 is nothing spiritual but what has a
00:34:54 physical manifestation and there is
00:34:55 absolutely nothing physical that is
00:34:58 purely physical that is not also a
00:35:01 representation of the spiritual.
00:35:03 >> Yeah. So, the reason Ben brought that
00:35:05 out is to go off against some Greek
00:35:08 ideas out there.
00:35:10 >> Um, for those who get in deep into that
00:35:14 stuff, but the Greeks
00:35:17 uh like to think that the physical is
00:35:20 just physical and it’s separate from the
00:35:22 spiritual. It’s not.
00:35:24 >> Yeah.
00:35:25 >> You can’t inter uh disconnect the two.
00:35:29 The physical actions are based off of
00:35:32 spiritual motivations.
00:35:34 >> Absolutely.
00:35:36 So, and uh and and uh our spirit without
00:35:42 our fleshly tabernacle
00:35:45 is not capable
00:35:47 of experiencing the fullness of joy.
00:35:51 >> No, it’s not.
00:35:54 And so
00:35:56 um when we are resurrected, we’re not
00:36:00 getting resurrected to a spiritual body.
00:36:03 We’re getting resurrected in full
00:36:05 physical form capable of experiencing
00:36:09 the fullness of joy that Y elu has for
00:36:14 us. Now Yeshua touched people and ate
00:36:18 fish and honey. In addition, for those
00:36:21 of us have uh spouses and or children,
00:36:25 to give them a hug is quite a blessing.
00:36:29 >> It gives comfort.
00:36:31 >> It gives comfort to both parties.
00:36:37 >> Okay. So, uh who just read verse five?
00:36:42 >> I did.
00:36:43 >> Okay. Andrew, you want to read verse six
00:36:45 for us or did you? Sure.
00:36:48 >> Yeah.
00:36:50 Wherefore also it is contained in the
00:36:53 scripture, behold I lay in in Zion a
00:36:58 chief cornerstone
00:37:00 elect precious and he that believeth on
00:37:05 him shall not be confounded. So here he
00:37:08 is quoting Isaiah
00:37:10 or uh or Yesyu.
00:37:14 Uh he gives uh
00:37:19 he and he and he is talking about the
00:37:22 chief cornerstone.
00:37:24 Uh that those who believe I will lay in
00:37:27 seon chief cornerstone. Once again
00:37:30 showing as he is teaching Torah here
00:37:33 that the prophets are Torah. the
00:37:36 writings are Torah, the prophets are
00:37:39 Torah.
00:37:41 >> Yeah. And that they’re still valid
00:37:43 actually because earlier he brought up
00:37:46 how the commandments
00:37:50 uh or divisions of Torah are valid and
00:37:53 now he’s bringing out the commentary
00:37:56 from the prophets is still valid. So if
00:38:00 the writings are Torah and the prophets
00:38:03 are Torah and Torah is not limited to
00:38:05 the first five books of Moses, what else
00:38:08 could be Torah?
00:38:10 >> I I I could tell you.
00:38:13 >> Go ahead.
00:38:14 >> New Testament, Book of Mormon, most of
00:38:16 the DNC portal great price. I mean, and
00:38:19 in addition, I my definition Torah is
00:38:22 every word of Yahw that is not a
00:38:24 prescribed punishment. Mhm.
00:38:26 >> It it’s it’s everything that he says
00:38:28 that is um not a punishment. It that’s
00:38:31 Torah.
00:38:32 >> Mhm.
00:38:34 >> So that’s and that’s quite a that’s
00:38:36 quite a promise that’s given to those
00:38:39 who believe in the chief cornerstone
00:38:43 that they shall not be confounded.
00:38:47 And for myself,
00:38:50 I’ve seen on multiple occasions
00:38:54 people who think that they’re very smart
00:38:57 try to confound
00:39:00 uh
00:39:02 all of us here
00:39:04 have experienced them. People trying to
00:39:07 confound us in our words.
00:39:11 Well, for for me, I just a lot of times
00:39:14 I quote scriptures and expound it. So
00:39:17 they’re they’re actually going against
00:39:19 scripture now.
00:39:20 >> Yeah, they’re actually fighting it’s
00:39:21 like so and one of the things that I one
00:39:26 of the things that I have said in the
00:39:27 past is well you know I’m just quoting
00:39:31 the words of such and such a prophet. So
00:39:33 your argument isn’t with me it’s with a
00:39:35 prophet of God. So um
00:39:41 and so
00:39:43 >> yeah. So but
00:39:45 when
00:39:46 >> bring it up with Peter
00:39:47 >> when exactly when you love Torah when
00:39:51 you love Yeshua who was the Torah
00:39:54 personified
00:39:57 because he walked it out per perfectly.
00:40:01 Um, when you love Yeshua
00:40:05 and you love Torah and you know them,
00:40:11 you cannot be confounded by these by
00:40:13 people who think they’re wise.
00:40:20 as you keep going initially can be
00:40:24 >> um I I just want to bring out as you get
00:40:27 closer to Yeshua and his word
00:40:31 >> um
00:40:33 I’ll tell you the key that I do in a lot
00:40:36 of places I just quote the scripture.
00:40:38 >> Yeah.
00:40:39 >> I I and then just bring out what it
00:40:42 says. I
00:40:46 I honestly think a lot of times a lot of
00:40:48 people just have a lot of reading
00:40:50 comprehension problems.
00:40:52 >> Um well I I think that um when you have
00:40:57 a belief system
00:41:00 that has to be true that isn’t
00:41:04 it will lead to uh reading comprehension
00:41:08 problems.
00:41:09 >> I I completely agree. Yes. I’ve seen it
00:41:11 many times. So u but uh okay so if
00:41:17 you’ll read verse seven Stephen.
00:41:19 >> Yes. Unto you therefore who believe he
00:41:23 is precious is Yeshua. But unto them who
00:41:28 are disobedient
00:41:30 um who stumble at the word. So these are
00:41:34 the people who are wicked and don’t like
00:41:37 the word. Okay.
00:41:38 >> Yep.
00:41:39 >> Through disobedience. where on to they
00:41:42 are appointed a stone of stumbling and a
00:41:46 rock of offense. So this is where
00:41:49 >> yes
00:41:50 >> they have basically become hard-hearted
00:41:53 and uh are going around offending and
00:41:56 stumbling people.
00:41:58 >> Yeah. And so those who believe to those
00:42:02 who believe what is believe how do we
00:42:04 know that we how do we know that
00:42:06 somebody believes can you can’t really
00:42:08 cut their head open and see their belief
00:42:10 patterns working
00:42:13 >> you can see the fruit
00:42:14 >> would be dangerous
00:42:15 >> you can see the fruits of it in their
00:42:16 works
00:42:17 >> see in fact I um I’ll try to remember to
00:42:20 put a link to this but I do have a a
00:42:24 redo of Hebrews uh 11:1 that goes along
00:42:27 with that actually with the fruits.
00:42:31 >> Yeah.
00:42:33 >> That it is the fruits that you can see
00:42:36 that tells you what’s going on on the
00:42:38 inside.
00:42:39 >> That’s right. So that’s how you tell
00:42:41 that’s how you can tell who believes is
00:42:43 because they act according to that which
00:42:45 they say they believe in.
00:42:48 Uh
00:42:49 >> so to th to those who say they believe
00:42:51 to those who truly believe in Yeshua, he
00:42:55 is precious.
00:42:57 Yeah. Well, and this somewhat goes along
00:42:59 with what um James said. Uh you can say
00:43:03 you have belief but don’t do any works
00:43:06 as in no fruits.
00:43:09 I’ll show you my faith with my fruits.
00:43:13 And and this
00:43:15 >> um I’ll just say this real quick. um
00:43:18 that fruits I mean sorry faith is
00:43:24 uh trusting in Yahweh’s word and
00:43:26 diligently keeping it.
00:43:29 >> Yes.
00:43:30 >> Uh so there and when you’re obedient and
00:43:33 doing the works, you have fruits. Your
00:43:36 fruits are your works. So
00:43:38 >> anyways,
00:43:39 >> and so here’s the interesting thing.
00:43:41 This people who believe to whom Yeshua
00:43:45 is precious are contrasted with what?
00:43:49 The disobedient
00:43:51 which means to believe is to be
00:43:56 obedient.
00:43:58 >> Correct. Because the other side is
00:44:00 disobedient.
00:44:02 >> That’s right. And so there there we go.
00:44:05 And what happens to the disobedient when
00:44:08 they meet the real Yeshua? Uh,
00:44:13 >> they’re going to want to hide behind a
00:44:14 rock.
00:44:16 >> I’m going to read verse eight here.
00:44:18 >> Okay.
00:44:19 >> A stone of stumbling and and let’s see.
00:44:23 For a stone which the builders
00:44:25 disallowed is made the head of the
00:44:28 corner. And verse nine uh wait
00:44:31 >> is become
00:44:32 >> is become the is become the head of the
00:44:35 head of the corner. So they these
00:44:39 people. Okay. So that stumbling he moved
00:44:43 that stumbling into verse most mo a lot
00:44:48 of the stumbling effect into verse seven
00:44:50 already. So yeah. So that’s what
00:44:52 happens. They stumble over him when they
00:44:54 meet the true Yeshua.
00:44:56 >> So here here’s and if I can just
00:44:59 interject a little bit.
00:45:00 >> So the Sadducees and the Pharisees were
00:45:03 trying to disallow Yeshua, right? They
00:45:06 hated him. They hated his teachings. He
00:45:08 hated what he stood for.
00:45:12 Yeshua is the stone that that disallowed
00:45:17 >> him.
00:45:18 >> And he is the one that became the head
00:45:20 of the corner.
00:45:22 >> Yep.
00:45:22 >> The sun.
00:45:24 >> Yep. Um,
00:45:26 >> so this verse right here is going along
00:45:29 with how the religious leaders of his
00:45:33 day, the popular and famous and the
00:45:37 knowing ones,
00:45:39 >> right?
00:45:41 >> They did not want to allow Yeshua.
00:45:44 Okay? And similarly, and similarly
00:45:49 um so yes, the Sadducees and the
00:45:52 Pharisees disallowed Yeshua. But similar
00:45:55 and similarly, we not but and similarly
00:46:00 in Christianity
00:46:03 where they define all that stuff about
00:46:05 the law of Moses being the shadow of
00:46:08 Christ
00:46:09 and therefore being done away.
00:46:14 Okay. If you do away with the shadow,
00:46:15 you do away with the person who cast the
00:46:17 shadow.
00:46:18 >> Okay. So, I do want to uh clarify a term
00:46:21 here. Torah is still valid law. Moses is
00:46:24 not. Right. Moses is the primarily the
00:46:28 punishments
00:46:30 um well I shouldn’t say primar they are
00:46:32 the punishments that were added at mount
00:46:34 si and some before um that were ended at
00:46:38 the cross which is the the biggest ones
00:46:41 are um the two daily lambs the
00:46:47 um
00:46:49 circumcision
00:46:51 and not everybody being able to have the
00:46:53 ironic priesthood which all those three
00:46:56 went away. Okay.
00:46:57 >> Yes.
00:46:58 >> Absolutely.
00:46:59 >> That’s that’s law of Moses. Okay. Torah
00:47:02 is the law. Law of Moses is the
00:47:05 punishments plus the law. Um and this we
00:47:09 could get into legal terminology. I’ll
00:47:11 let Ben decide on that.
00:47:13 >> Um well, let’s uh let’s do the cliff’s
00:47:17 not if we can do the cliff’s notes
00:47:19 version that’ll be fine.
00:47:21 Uh so when a judge makes a punishment
00:47:24 law, it’s law. Hey
00:47:27 there. There’s the
00:47:28 >> exactly the cliffnotes version. If a
00:47:31 judge if a judge makes if a judge does a
00:47:35 ruling against a criminal that for that
00:47:39 criminal that ruling is law.
00:47:43 >> Yes. And that was law
00:47:48 uh um
00:47:50 >> through the
00:47:52 cross which Paul brings out. So it
00:47:56 anyways it’s a big I have a page on it
00:48:00 >> but but the so the law of Elohim still
00:48:05 remains Torah still remains
00:48:09 but the punishments
00:48:13 the performances and ordinances
00:48:16 >> correct
00:48:17 >> um
00:48:19 have been
00:48:21 have been satisfied
00:48:24 >> correct
00:48:25 And having been served out, the
00:48:27 punishments having been served,
00:48:30 they’re no longer in effect.
00:48:33 >> Yeah. And I’ll just say this, Numbers 28
00:48:35 actually states that there was a an
00:48:37 expiration time. And I’ll leave
00:48:39 >> and also a beginning time
00:48:42 >> to true. Yes, it does say that too. Yes,
00:48:44 you’re right, Ben. So um so the so what
00:48:48 we have uh so when I say when you do
00:48:52 away with the law I’m not talking about
00:48:54 the law of Moses I’m talking about Torah
00:48:57 if you do away with the law because it’s
00:48:59 only a shadow of the reality of of
00:49:01 Yeshua which is something that these
00:49:04 preachers love to teach and I don’t even
00:49:06 know if they know what they’re talking
00:49:08 about
00:49:09 >> probably don’t to be honest they
00:49:11 probably went to a school and they just
00:49:13 repeating what they got told to repeat.
00:49:16 >> Yeah. So if uh if you do away with the
00:49:19 shadow, you do away with the person who
00:49:21 cast the shadow.
00:49:23 >> Yeah. And
00:49:24 >> that’s the only way to do away with the
00:49:25 shadow.
00:49:27 >> Yeah.
00:49:31 >> Which oddly enough, that’s what ends up
00:49:33 happening, but you know.
00:49:35 >> H you know.
00:49:38 >> So verse nine, Andrew.
00:49:41 >> Yeah. One second.
00:49:44 Verse nine. But ye are cho a chosen
00:49:47 generation, a royal priesthood and holy
00:49:50 nation, a peculiar people, that ye
00:49:54 should show forth the praises of him who
00:49:57 hath called you out of darkness into his
00:50:00 marvelous light.
00:50:01 >> But ye are a chosen generation,
00:50:03 >> a royal priesthood, and a holy nation, a
00:50:07 peculiar people. Who does Ya say this
00:50:10 about?
00:50:12 So these are uh said towards people who
00:50:16 keep his ways. Peculiar people are
00:50:20 people who do things Yahweh’s ways
00:50:22 instead of their own way or the world’s
00:50:25 way. And that makes them peculiar
00:50:28 because they’re different than everybody
00:50:30 else.
00:50:31 >> And that was what Israel was meant to
00:50:33 be. And that’s why he said this of them
00:50:37 before Peter says it
00:50:39 into says it to
00:50:42 these Gentiles.
00:50:46 Peter is taking that thing that was
00:50:50 that the house of Israel assumed was
00:50:52 theirs alone
00:50:54 and he is now putting it on the
00:50:57 Gentiles.
00:50:58 >> Yeah. So one thing I’ll just say this
00:51:01 chosen in in the beginning of verse 9
00:51:03 goes along with many are called
00:51:07 um chosen has to go along with your
00:51:10 working towards your sanctification uh
00:51:13 which goes along with the
00:51:16 grace. Did I I think I said it right
00:51:18 that time. Um so um or glorification
00:51:24 celestication
00:51:28 did I say that right? Anyways, um it it
00:51:32 calling election made sure being
00:51:35 perfected there. It has many names. Um
00:51:39 >> and also something here we also have
00:51:42 this reference to a royal priesthood.
00:51:44 And here the he’s not talking to
00:51:47 Levites.
00:51:50 >> No, he’s not. He’s talking actually he’s
00:51:53 talking to uh the goyam, right?
00:51:56 >> Yes. He this is Yeah. He’s he’s talking
00:51:58 to the goim.
00:52:00 >> Yeah. So, this goes along with how uh
00:52:04 the ironic priesthood only being with
00:52:07 the tribe of Levi was done at the end of
00:52:09 the cross. This is an example of that.
00:52:12 It doesn’t specifically come out and say
00:52:14 it, but this is an example of where it
00:52:17 went away. And even uh at Mount Si
00:52:21 before it was only given to the only
00:52:23 allowed to have
00:52:26 only the Levites were allowed to have
00:52:28 the ironic priesthood before they did
00:52:31 their grievous sin. Uh all the tribes uh
00:52:36 firstborns had the ironic priesthood.
00:52:39 It’s it’s in there in Exodus. And so,
00:52:42 and that’s and that whole fact, the fact
00:52:44 that the firstborn were the one that had
00:52:46 the priesthood, that’s a reference,
00:52:48 that’s what that reference to the royal
00:52:50 priesthood, the firstborn.
00:52:52 >> Yeah.
00:52:56 >> So, an holy nation, a peculiar people,
00:52:59 and you should show forth the praises of
00:53:00 him who hath called you out of darkness
00:53:02 into his marvelous light. What is light?
00:53:05 Light is Torah.
00:53:06 >> Yeah. Yeah. And I I’ll I’ll add a a link
00:53:10 to a page for where Torah is like.
00:53:13 >> Mhm.
00:53:15 >> So So the where were the Gentiles? Were
00:53:20 the Gentiles in a state of preparation
00:53:22 because of Greek philosophy or were they
00:53:24 in darkness?
00:53:26 >> Well, according to the verse, which I
00:53:28 would say is authentic and uh
00:53:31 authoritative darkness.
00:53:34 >> Yes. So the early Christian fathers got
00:53:37 this wrong
00:53:40 because they said the Greeks were given
00:53:42 philosophy in preparation for the
00:53:45 Christian law. Yeah. Well, so I I will
00:53:49 add to what Bend said. The Christian
00:53:52 fathers took Greek philosophy and merged
00:53:55 it with Hebrew thought, which uh brings
00:53:58 out a lot of nonsense.
00:54:03 So verse 10, Brennan
00:54:07 >> which in time past were not a people but
00:54:10 are now the people of God which had not
00:54:12 obtained mercy but now have obtained
00:54:14 mercy.
00:54:16 >> Okay. So which in time past were not a
00:54:18 people. Now a lot of people will take
00:54:21 this
00:54:23 what has been done in the past with a
00:54:25 lot of Hebrew rooers is they’ll take
00:54:27 this verse in connection with
00:54:32 um
00:54:34 a verse in uh with uh
00:54:39 where
00:54:43 oh come on who is that prophet
00:54:45 >> you want me to pause it for a
00:54:50 Yeah.
00:54:50 >> Okay. Let me pause for a second.
00:54:52 >> Okay.
00:54:55 >> So, uh this verse, verse 10, which in
00:54:59 time past were not a people, but are now
00:55:01 the people of Elohim, which had not
00:55:04 obtained mercy, but now have obtained
00:55:06 mercy. A lot many Hebrew rooers will
00:55:09 take this in conjunction
00:55:11 with u
00:55:14 uh
00:55:15 >> Hosea. Hosea chapter 1 vers uh ver
00:55:20 chapter 1 verse uh 9. We’re going to
00:55:23 read 8 and nine. So if you’ll bring up
00:55:26 Hosea chapter okay we’re going to read 8
00:55:29 and nine. Now when she had weaned loama
00:55:35 she conceived and bare a son. Then God
00:55:38 said, “Call his name lo ami for ye are
00:55:43 not my people and I will not be your
00:55:45 God.” It will not be your Elohim. Then
00:55:48 said, “Yeah.” So they take these two
00:55:53 scriptures together along with a few
00:55:55 others and try to build up this idea of
00:55:58 how the Gentiles
00:56:00 and it is true that the Gentiles are
00:56:03 Ephraim but that but uh
00:56:07 they’re not
00:56:08 >> they try to say that they’re still uh
00:56:11 perpetually divorced which is not the
00:56:13 case. Um, for one, uh, this was talking
00:56:18 to a specific group of people, and two,
00:56:21 even if it was more than just that one
00:56:25 group of people that was alive, uh, the
00:56:28 10 divisions of Torah only state four
00:56:32 um, generations. On top of that, and
00:56:35 this is something that been I I’ve
00:56:38 looked into and been with me uh because
00:56:41 of some things I’ve said and and been
00:56:43 tested me, which is fine. That’s
00:56:45 appropriate. But we have found how there
00:56:48 are prophets after this that are from
00:56:52 the uh northern tribes showing that they
00:56:55 weren’t divorced perpetually as uh
00:56:59 suggested. Okay.
00:57:01 >> Yeah. that the entirety of them were not
00:57:03 divorced perpetually. Uh and the simple
00:57:07 the simple facts are some of the first
00:57:10 people who saw Yeshua in the temple were
00:57:14 from other tribes. Issachar
00:57:17 particularly um
00:57:19 >> yeah and guess what the atonement hadn’t
00:57:21 happened yet. So
00:57:23 >> yeah so and so this is the this is the
00:57:26 whole thing about that.
00:57:30 Yah, while he may divorce a people on
00:57:34 the whole because of their
00:57:35 unfaithfulness,
00:57:38 will never turn his back on those who
00:57:40 faithfully walk out his commandments.
00:57:44 Well, yeah. And then just go look at the
00:57:45 10 divisions of Torah except those who
00:57:48 repent.
00:57:50 >> I mean, I know that’s not a direct
00:57:52 quote, but that is the idea. Mhm. And so
00:57:57 and so this is a this is a this is a
00:58:00 false idea. So if we could go back to
00:58:04 that.
00:58:06 >> So the new translation I
00:58:07 >> Yeah. to the new translation.
00:58:09 >> Yeah.
00:58:11 >> 1 Peter chapter 2. Why can’t we just let
00:58:14 this say what it says?
00:58:17 >> Well, I know I I I believe I know what
00:58:20 it says. says in the times past you were
00:58:22 not united but under Elohim you are
00:58:25 united
00:58:26 >> right you were
00:58:28 >> which goes along with how the prophecies
00:58:30 of Zion that there the people are united
00:58:33 with Torah which this chapter’s been
00:58:36 talking about keeping
00:58:38 >> right so you weren’t a part of the
00:58:42 people before now you are
00:58:46 >> and people have people who were a part
00:58:48 of and if you read Romans 11 people who
00:58:51 were a part of the people had already
00:58:53 been cut off so that they could become a
00:58:55 part of the people.
00:58:56 >> Yes. And so uh just so for people who
00:59:00 are not aware, Romans 11 is
00:59:04 uh a chapter about an olive tree and and
00:59:08 garden. So anyways,
00:59:10 >> and the olive tree is the symbol of the
00:59:13 unified house of Israel.
00:59:18 many it ha in in some instances well it
00:59:23 has been used for that on
00:59:26 uh
00:59:28 on banners and what have you
00:59:30 >> and I think yeah
00:59:31 >> and I think the olive tree is also uh
00:59:34 talked about in uh Jacob five
00:59:38 >> correct
00:59:39 >> yes it is
00:59:40 >> yeah so I can put a link to ours on that
00:59:43 so
00:59:44 >> yeah
00:59:46 so uh Let’s see. Uh Stephen, you want to
00:59:51 read verse 11? Sure. Dear, dearly
00:59:55 beloved, I beseech you as strangers and
00:59:57 pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lust,
01:00:00 which wars against the soul. So, um
01:00:06 >> there’s all kinds of fleshly lusts.
01:00:09 >> Yeah. And and just looking at this,
01:00:11 there’s probably a better translation as
01:00:13 strangers. Um, we’re probably it’s not
01:00:17 worth putting the time into it right
01:00:18 now, but
01:00:19 >> sojourers is probably a better word.
01:00:22 >> Yes. Um, but estain from fleshly lust as
01:00:26 in
01:00:28 sexual desires. Okay. Um, that
01:00:32 >> glutton sexual or gluttonous desires
01:00:34 even because those are glutton gluttony
01:00:37 is a fleshly lust.
01:00:39 >> I agree. Oh yeah, it it does say just
01:00:42 fleshly. So it would include both. So
01:00:45 good point there, Ben.
01:00:46 >> Um, uh, on on the sexual ones, that’s to
01:00:51 keep a husband and wife together. Mhm.
01:00:54 >> And on um gluttony
01:00:57 I
01:00:59 I I don’t know a purpose for
01:01:01 >> the the purpose the purpose for
01:01:07 um
01:01:12 gluttony leads to so many things. It is
01:01:15 a uh it is a sign of your uh
01:01:21 uh it is a sign of a deeply covetous
01:01:24 nature.
01:01:26 >> No, I can see that because you always
01:01:28 more
01:01:29 >> and it Yeah. And it leads to so many
01:01:32 things. It leads to so many other um it
01:01:37 when we start being when we’re
01:01:39 undisiplined in one thing, it lead
01:01:41 Gluttony is actually a gateway to a lot
01:01:43 of things. When we’re undisiplined in
01:01:44 one thing, we get to the point where
01:01:46 we’re undisiplined in many things.
01:01:50 >> And so, um, gluttony is a gateway.
01:01:56 >> Yeah, I can see that. Uh, because you’re
01:01:58 starting to get, um, relaxed in one,
01:02:01 you’ll get relaxed in others, right?
01:02:04 >> Yeah. This is one of the this is one of
01:02:06 the reasons why
01:02:08 um
01:02:11 we should why we should be why we should
01:02:15 practice a in terms of our eating we
01:02:18 should practice somewhat of moderation
01:02:23 >> because
01:02:25 uh otherwise uh you know you don’t
01:02:33 But
01:02:34 you don’t want to be involving yourself
01:02:36 in too many eating competitions like I
01:02:38 used to.
01:02:39 >> Yeah. Well, gluttony is actually one of
01:02:41 the seven deadly sins if I remember
01:02:43 correctly.
01:02:44 >> Yes.
01:02:45 >> Um it it is an easy door into opening
01:02:48 into many others. So
01:02:53 >> all right. So and so abstain from the
01:02:56 fleshly lusts, gluttony and uh and um
01:03:00 sexual immorality. Yeah.
01:03:02 >> Having your conduct honest among the
01:03:05 Gentiles, that whereas they speak
01:03:08 against you as evildoers, they may be
01:03:10 they may by your good works, which they
01:03:13 shall behold glorify Elohim in the day
01:03:16 of visitation. So yeah, I do like how in
01:03:20 the new translation conduct replaces
01:03:22 conversation because conversation uh it
01:03:25 it means conduct
01:03:27 but most people will think okay so just
01:03:31 say the so just say the truth if it says
01:03:33 having your conversation being be honest
01:03:36 among the Gentiles have your conduct.
01:03:39 Now, the Gentiles are going to judge you
01:03:41 because you’re keeping Torah,
01:03:44 >> but still gonna talk bad about you,
01:03:48 right?
01:03:48 >> Yep. They’re going to talk bad about you
01:03:50 because you’re keeping Torah. But
01:03:51 they’re going to see
01:03:54 how you make the community better
01:03:56 because you’re keeping Torah and they
01:03:58 will glorify
01:04:01 eventually they will come around.
01:04:03 >> Yeah. I and there’s been people in my
01:04:06 life where they
01:04:08 um they they will actually come out and
01:04:11 say that I’m like one of the greatest
01:04:13 people they know, but they hate that I
01:04:17 keep Torah, but I’m like Torah is what
01:04:19 makes me what you like.
01:04:21 >> Mhm.
01:04:22 >> Um they they didn’t understand that
01:04:25 which is sad. Um
01:04:27 >> yeah. Now on the conversation, the
01:04:30 definitions of words and more common
01:04:34 definitions even have changed through
01:04:36 time. So
01:04:37 >> yeah,
01:04:38 >> I I do think they’re both still valid,
01:04:40 but I do think the conduct is better in
01:04:43 today’s language.
01:04:44 >> It makes it uh it makes it a little more
01:04:46 idiot proof.
01:04:48 >> Yes, it yes it does.
01:04:50 So, um, yeah. So, here’s here’s one of
01:04:54 those things where you have, um, where
01:04:57 you have put your translation skills to
01:05:00 the test.
01:05:01 >> Yeah. Yeah. Um, and it’s probably, and
01:05:04 maybe I should read this one. Uh, it’s
01:05:08 somewhat minor, but at the same time, it
01:05:10 can make a big uh, deal. Um, and so I
01:05:15 actually just changed one word and I
01:05:18 I’ll do 13 and 14 since I have them
01:05:20 together with in the kaya. Okay.
01:05:22 >> Yeah.
01:05:23 >> But uh I changed the Greek uh 5293
01:05:28 from submit to subordinate. Now the
01:05:31 reason that makes a difference is such
01:05:35 that you don’t think you need to submit
01:05:38 or keep all these
01:05:41 un godly or elohhe
01:05:46 ordinances that are out there. Okay,
01:05:49 that’s not what this verse is saying.
01:05:51 What it’s saying is be subordinate or
01:05:53 say
01:05:55 uh subject yourselves to the punishments
01:05:58 that come from men for keeping godly
01:06:02 things. Now a very famous example of
01:06:06 this is Daniel. Okay.
01:06:09 >> And prayers. Uh that’s the main one that
01:06:12 pops into my head. So that’s the one I’m
01:06:13 going to use.
01:06:14 >> Also Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego not
01:06:16 bowing to the golden idol. Oh, yes. That
01:06:19 is another very uh good one. Um and and
01:06:22 they both actually have second coming
01:06:26 um inferences to them. So, they’re both
01:06:28 good on that. But um they the two groups
01:06:33 were told to do something that was
01:06:36 unlawful according to Yahweh.
01:06:40 They did what was according to Yahweh
01:06:43 anyways and and was willing to take the
01:06:45 punishment from men for doing what was
01:06:48 right, which is what’s being described
01:06:50 here. Okay.
01:06:52 >> Mhm.
01:06:52 >> So with that uh intro there, I’ll go
01:06:55 ahead and read it. Be subordinate to
01:06:57 every ordinance which is a law un of
01:07:00 man. And I’m going to put unto
01:07:02 punishment which comes clear later in
01:07:05 verse 14 and even just later in the
01:07:07 chapter. Okay, for Adonai’s sake,
01:07:12 whether it be the king as supreme, as in
01:07:16 he said it himself, or unto the
01:07:19 governors
01:07:21 as unto them that are sent by the king.
01:07:25 Okay? for the punishment of evildoers.
01:07:28 This um people, evil people that are
01:07:32 putting forth this evil punishment here,
01:07:35 >> uh they will have their day at the final
01:07:38 judgment unless they repent. Okay?
01:07:41 >> And for the praise of them that do well,
01:07:45 so the the righteous so that the
01:07:48 righteous can learn what they need to do
01:07:50 in these types of circumstances. Okay?
01:07:53 or learn or and get encouragement uh
01:07:57 because they see your example which
01:08:00 there’s a place for both there. Okay.
01:08:02 >> Yes. And and I see I I see that I see
01:08:05 that the substitution of subordinate
01:08:08 with uh sub submit
01:08:12 uh subordinate yourselves to every law
01:08:15 of the land. And I do think that that
01:08:17 actually is a clearer representation of
01:08:21 what was meant to be said.
01:08:23 >> You know, it’s law of man, not law of
01:08:24 the land. Law of the land is
01:08:27 >> phrase that actually means Torah. But
01:08:29 anyway, I do think you meant law of man.
01:08:32 >> Yeah.
01:08:33 >> Have it.
01:08:34 >> Yeah. Yeah. I meant to go with the words
01:08:35 that are there, but I obviously screwed
01:08:38 up. So,
01:08:38 >> yeah, that is fine. We all do that. I do
01:08:40 it, too. But I do agree with Ben, and of
01:08:42 course, I’m the one that did it. um that
01:08:46 orment uh gives a better um description
01:08:50 of what’s going on than submit. Um
01:08:54 >> yeah, because we we we are not to obey
01:08:57 laws that cause us to break Torah.
01:09:01 >> Yeah. In fact, Peter, the council after
01:09:05 Yeshua’s death and resurrection, he
01:09:08 didn’t obey the council not to teach
01:09:10 Yeshua. But we but we are but we
01:09:14 similarly
01:09:16 are not to be insurrectionists.
01:09:19 >> Correct? Hence take the punishment for
01:09:24 breaking their unjust law. Right?
01:09:27 >> We are to keep Yahoo’s law at all times
01:09:32 and honor.
01:09:34 Uh and I I think there’s another verse a
01:09:38 little later here that actually sums it
01:09:40 all up. Well, yeah, there there’s more
01:09:42 and I I I did those two because they fit
01:09:46 quite well together on the kayaism. So,
01:09:49 >> yeah.
01:09:50 >> So, yeah, I think there’s there’s verses
01:09:53 there’s verses later which sum this
01:09:55 whole idea up
01:09:57 >> really well.
01:09:59 >> So,
01:10:00 >> okay.
01:10:02 So, let’s let’s go. Uh Brennan, do you
01:10:05 want to uh
01:10:07 >> It’s 15.
01:10:08 >> Do you Yeah. Do you want to do you want
01:10:11 to read verses 15 and 16 for me,
01:10:13 Brennan?
01:10:13 >> Okay, sure. Uh, for so is the will of
01:10:16 God that with welloing you may put to
01:10:19 silence the ignorance of foolish men as
01:10:22 free and not using your liberty for a
01:10:24 cloak of maliciousness, but as the
01:10:26 servants of God.
01:10:28 >> So here it is. For so is the will of
01:10:31 Elohim.
01:10:33 Okay, he’s about to explain the will of
01:10:35 Elohim. He’s about to make a a
01:10:38 pronouncement as to what that is. That
01:10:41 with welloing ye may put to silence the
01:10:45 ignorance of foolish men.
01:10:48 That by keeping Torah,
01:10:53 you may show basically by keeping Torah
01:10:56 and living in wisdom, you may show the
01:10:58 fools of the fool. Show the fools as
01:11:00 fools. Now, um I I don’t remember the
01:11:04 timing, but when the Romans were burning
01:11:08 the Christians,
01:11:10 um that actually um had the opposite
01:11:15 effect that they wanted. It actually
01:11:16 caused more people to convert because
01:11:19 saw because they saw their conviction.
01:11:23 >> Mhm.
01:11:24 >> For the truth
01:11:25 >> as free and not using your liberty for a
01:11:29 cloak of maliciousness.
01:11:31 This really puts the knot on it.
01:11:35 Don’t be
01:11:38 an insurrectionist.
01:11:40 >> Yeah. So I I could see how submit could
01:11:44 work with these four verses here 13- 16,
01:11:49 >> but just the definition of the word I
01:11:51 still think is not the best. But with
01:11:53 the rest of the context, it could be
01:11:56 okay, right?
01:11:58 >> Yeah. But subordinate is actually uh I
01:12:02 do believe it is better. Yeah.
01:12:04 >> Uh especially with verse 17,
01:12:08 honor all men, love the brotherhood,
01:12:11 fear God, honor the king. By the way,
01:12:15 verse 17 is a minazm.
01:12:18 >> Yes, it is.
01:12:22 >> Honor all men, honor the king, love the
01:12:25 brotherhood, fear God.
01:12:28 >> Yeah. So the A and A and the B and B
01:12:30 where the the church is in the center
01:12:33 because that’s the most important
01:12:36 >> and with with Yahweh of course but
01:12:39 >> and of course and here’s the thing fear
01:12:41 Elohim with the love the brotherhood
01:12:45 fear Elohim that fear now you now
01:12:48 realize that that is more of a reverent
01:12:51 loving awe. Yeah, the the fear is a bad
01:12:55 translation in my honest opinion. Um,
01:12:59 >> anyways,
01:13:00 >> so that that’s how that’s how that’s how
01:13:03 I see that. So, this honor all men, this
01:13:07 sums that up beautifully. Honor all men,
01:13:11 love the brotherhood.
01:13:13 How do we love the brotherhood?
01:13:17 Keep the last five
01:13:19 divisions of Torah. Fear God. Fear
01:13:23 Elohim. How do we fear Elohim? By
01:13:26 keeping the first five divisions of
01:13:28 Torah.
01:13:29 >> Yeah.
01:13:31 >> Honor the king.
01:13:35 And that is something that we should do.
01:13:39 that that falls back into the line of
01:13:42 render unto Caesar that which is
01:13:44 Caesars’s, unto God the things which are
01:13:47 God’s unto Elohim the thing which are
01:13:50 things which are Elohims.
01:13:53 Honor the king both ways.
01:14:02 >> So
01:14:05 verse 18
01:14:08 Brennan
01:14:11 servants, be subject to your masters
01:14:13 with all fear, not only to the good and
01:14:16 gentle, but also to the fur word.
01:14:18 >> Oh my word. This is a hard This is a
01:14:20 hard teaching, isn’t it?
01:14:23 Don’t you think, Brandon? Wouldn’t this
01:14:25 be hard?
01:14:26 >> Yeah. Yeah, I’d say so.
01:14:28 >> So, we should probably uh define forward
01:14:31 for most people just in case.
01:14:34 >> Yeah. Uh forward means
01:14:39 He’s an ordery cuss.
01:14:43 >> Yeah, he’s really mean, right?
01:14:45 >> Yeah,
01:14:50 >> that’s what word means.
01:14:52 >> Now, this is somewhat going along with
01:14:55 in my sorry if I interjected.
01:14:57 >> Yeah, but go ahead with 13. How do it
01:15:01 within the reason of Torah if he tries
01:15:03 to get you beyond take the punishment.
01:15:07 Yes.
01:15:11 >> So verse 19, Stephen.
01:15:13 >> Yeah. For this is thank thank worthy if
01:15:17 a man for conscience towards Elohim
01:15:20 endured grief suffering wrongfully.
01:15:23 >> So
01:15:24 >> what do you think thankw worthy means?
01:15:29 >> I it’s thankw worthy. I
01:15:33 >> I I I don’t know how to define it. Just
01:15:35 the word itself.
01:15:37 >> Yeah, that’s that’s a really that’s a
01:15:39 really strange word. I do think that it
01:15:42 I do it obviously it means worthy of
01:15:44 thanks.
01:15:46 >> So how is it worthy of thanks
01:15:48 >> if a man for conscience towards Elohim
01:15:50 endure grief suffering wrongfully?
01:15:53 >> Uh you go back to the biatitudes
01:15:56 um and the blessing that you’ll get
01:15:58 because of that as Yeshua pronounced
01:16:00 there in the biatitudes.
01:16:02 >> Exactly.
01:16:04 Exactly.
01:16:05 So it’s it’s in the biatitudes there and
01:16:08 the funny thing is you know those
01:16:10 biatitudes they they’re very there’s
01:16:14 very powerful promises put in associated
01:16:17 with those um including inheriting the
01:16:20 earth. So, um,
01:16:25 for now, you’ll have to for now these
01:16:30 for for their lifetimes, these servants
01:16:34 in Peter’s day had to deal with these
01:16:40 things.
01:16:42 I I we still do it today, but
01:16:45 >> yeah, the we’re all
01:16:47 >> It’s not to the same severity, I would
01:16:50 imagine, but it’s still there today.
01:16:53 >> Yeah. Well, I mean, just try uh just try
01:16:58 just um
01:17:00 just remember how betrayed you felt the
01:17:03 last time you did something you were
01:17:04 told and you got in trouble for it
01:17:06 anyway.
01:17:07 >> Sure. Yeah.
01:17:10 Um, just remember that.
01:17:14 For what glory is it when ye be buffeted
01:17:17 for your faults?
01:17:20 Ye shall take it and you shall take it
01:17:22 patiently. But if when you do evil and
01:17:25 suff if but if when ye do well and
01:17:28 suffer for it, you take it patiently,
01:17:31 this is acceptable with Elohim.
01:17:36 So, I I think what uh Peter’s bringing
01:17:38 out here is
01:17:41 it’s easy to do it when um you did
01:17:45 something wrong, right? You know, you
01:17:49 did something wrong.
01:17:50 >> When you know you’re paying a price for
01:17:52 your fun
01:17:54 >> or or your faults, right?
01:17:56 >> Well, yeah.
01:17:56 >> Or your mistakes.
01:17:58 >> Most oftent times that that’s it’s the
01:18:02 same idea.
01:18:03 >> Oh, okay. So I if they’re goofing off,
01:18:05 yeah, they deserved it, right?
01:18:07 >> Yeah.
01:18:08 >> But how much and I think what’s going on
01:18:10 here is Peter’s bringing out how much
01:18:12 more patience do you have when you’re
01:18:15 being patient when you did nothing
01:18:17 wrong?
01:18:19 >> Right. To do well and suffer for it.
01:18:25 >> Yeah.
01:18:27 the the um there’s a there’s a biatitude
01:18:31 that speaks directly to that.
01:18:35 Blessed are ye when men shall persecute
01:18:38 you for my name’s sake.
01:18:40 >> Yeah.
01:18:44 Yeah. And this part that is acceptable
01:18:46 with Elohim, right? For his name’s sake
01:18:49 or specifically his character sake
01:18:52 because name does mean character.
01:18:56 Anyways,
01:18:56 >> yeah.
01:18:57 >> So, verse 21, Brennan,
01:19:01 >> for even here unto were you called
01:19:03 because Christ also suffered for us,
01:19:06 leaving us an example that you should
01:19:08 follow in his steps.
01:19:10 >> Okay, so here’s what I would um here’s
01:19:13 what I would ask.
01:19:20 >> Who kept the law better than Yeshua?
01:19:23 >> No one. Who walked in Y who who walked
01:19:27 in Yah’s name better than Yeshua?
01:19:32 >> No one.
01:19:32 >> No one.
01:19:33 >> Who suffered
01:19:35 more than Yeshua?
01:19:38 >> No one.
01:19:43 >> And we need to remember that
01:19:46 when we’re doing well and things are
01:19:49 going sideways for us.
01:19:53 Verse
01:20:01 22, Stephen
01:20:03 >> who do no sin, neither was gal found in
01:20:06 his mouth. So it’s talking about uh
01:20:09 Yeshua uh did no sin and had no gile
01:20:13 which in verse one we were told not to
01:20:16 have. And uh also been reviewed with us
01:20:21 at least some places. That’s found in
01:20:23 the five books of Moses where Torah is
01:20:26 conse consecrated or did I say that
01:20:29 right?
01:20:29 >> Concentrated.
01:20:30 >> Yes, thank you. My
01:20:32 >> concentrated.
01:20:33 >> So
01:20:33 >> yeah, my speech impediment came out.
01:20:35 Sorry.
01:20:36 >> So is guile actually another word for
01:20:38 hypocrisy?
01:20:39 >> No, guile is another word for uh guile
01:20:42 is another word for uh
01:20:46 deceitful for deceitful speech.
01:20:51 So lying.
01:20:52 >> Yep.
01:20:55 Neither was Gile in his mouth. Who when
01:20:58 he was reviled reviled not again. When
01:21:02 he suffered he threatened not. In fact
01:21:05 when he was reviled.
01:21:10 >> So just so people
01:21:11 >> healed the servant. He healed the
01:21:12 servant of the high priest who was going
01:21:14 to kill him.
01:21:16 >> Yeah. He he it’s talking about Yeshua’s
01:21:18 last hours. So guess it’s not obvious.
01:21:22 >> Yeah. Uh and coming from Peter who cut
01:21:26 off the ear of that high priest servant
01:21:30 and watched Yeshua
01:21:32 heal him.
01:21:37 >> That would been quite a lesson.
01:21:41 >> Who when he was reviled reviled not
01:21:43 again. When he suffered, he threatened
01:21:46 not, but committed himself to him that
01:21:51 judges judgeth righteously. This is why
01:21:54 when people mistreat you, when things
01:21:57 are going sideways for you, this is why
01:21:59 Yeshua tells us that what we need to say
01:22:03 is not a whole bunch of reviling, but
01:22:08 God Elohim, judge between me and thee.
01:22:14 Yeah. And so this is um doing uh a
01:22:18 reference to the first division of
01:22:19 Torah. How uh Yahweh needs to be your
01:22:24 top Elohim or judge here. Okay.
01:22:28 >> That’s what’s going on this last uh
01:22:30 portion of the verse.
01:22:31 >> Yep.
01:22:33 And then you have something in verse 24.
01:22:35 I
01:22:36 >> I have 24. Um it’s it’s another little
01:22:40 minor thing, but it it can be helpful.
01:22:46 So I’ll go ahead and read it. So this is
01:22:48 my uh SDR 1 Peter 2:24
01:22:53 who his Yeshua’s own self bear are
01:22:57 repented. And so I that’s in the notes,
01:23:00 but our repented sins
01:23:03 >> in his Yeshua’s own body on the tree,
01:23:07 the cross, that we being removed
01:23:12 from sins,
01:23:15 would live unto righteousness, which
01:23:17 means keeping Torah,
01:23:20 by whose Yeshua’s stripes we were
01:23:22 healed.
01:23:25 >> Wonderful. Wonderful. Wonderful.
01:23:28 reference to substitutionary atonement.
01:23:32 >> Yes, it is
01:23:33 >> that we find
01:23:36 perfectly uh that we find imperfectly
01:23:39 shadowed in the uh day of atonement
01:23:42 rituals.
01:23:43 >> Well,
01:23:46 animal sacrifices to be honest. So
01:23:48 >> yeah, perfectly carried out by Yeshua.
01:23:53 Paul talks about this too where he who
01:23:59 where he talking about how Yeshua became
01:24:01 sin for us. He didn’t really become sin
01:24:04 but he
01:24:06 >> Yeah, that’s a bad translation.
01:24:08 >> But but but that is a direct reference
01:24:10 to the the passing of the sins onto the
01:24:14 head of the scapegoat.
01:24:15 >> Yeah. and you go look at the Greek, it’s
01:24:17 taking the sins upon him, not
01:24:21 >> it’s not a good translation, but
01:24:23 anyways.
01:24:24 >> Yeah. But but this is this is one of
01:24:27 those things that points back that Peter
01:24:30 and Paul
01:24:33 loved and respected one another. You can
01:24:36 see it in second Peter chapter 3.
01:24:40 Paul, he talks about the wisdom of Paul
01:24:44 and the words that he says that are hard
01:24:46 to understand. So, let’s go to second
01:24:48 Peter chapter 3.
01:24:54 >> Well, uh, yeah, I’ll just do it this
01:24:56 way.
01:25:07 >> 30, right?
01:25:08 >> Yep.
01:25:10 and verses I think starting in verse 16
01:25:16 uh let’s see yeah
01:25:18 >> yeah there it is
01:25:21 hard to understand it’s
01:25:22 >> as also in his epistles Paul in his
01:25:26 Paul’s epistles speaking in them of
01:25:29 these things in which are some things
01:25:31 hard to be understood
01:25:34 which they that are unlearned and
01:25:36 unstable rest as they do the other
01:25:38 scriptures
01:25:39 unto their own destruction.
01:25:42 >> Meaning when they’re twisting the
01:25:44 scriptures, they’re destroying
01:25:45 themselves.
01:25:48 >> Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye knew ye
01:25:52 know these things before
01:25:54 >> as in Torah, right?
01:25:56 >> Yep. Beware, lest ye also being led away
01:26:00 with the error of the wicked or the
01:26:03 error of lawlessness. The Greek word
01:26:05 there is uh enomia
01:26:10 Greek word the error of lawlessness
01:26:13 fall away from your own steadfastness.
01:26:18 Yeah. So uh you don’t fall into the same
01:26:22 error of wickedness, lawlessness as
01:26:25 these other people are from people
01:26:28 twisting Paul’s letters. Right.
01:26:30 >> Yeah. And so Paul and Peter had great
01:26:33 respect for each other. And a lot of
01:26:34 these um Jesus words only people will
01:26:39 say will try to create enmity between
01:26:42 Peter and Paul.
01:26:43 >> Oh, that’s because they don’t
01:26:44 understand. Um
01:26:45 >> they and to do this they use the words
01:26:48 of St. Clement.
01:26:52 >> St.
01:26:54 >> Clement of Alexandria.
01:26:56 >> I thought about great guy, huh? Very
01:26:59 good. Yep.
01:27:01 >> Yeah.
01:27:02 >> And so they and they they which is funny
01:27:05 cuz you guys are supposed to be Jesus
01:27:07 words only, right?
01:27:09 >> But that’s not Jesus only.
01:27:13 >> I don’t even know if he actually
01:27:14 worshiped Yeshua.
01:27:18 >> Well,
01:27:21 not correctly. Uh that’s for sure. But
01:27:25 in addition, it could be debatable who
01:27:28 he actually was venerating his uh
01:27:32 worship towards. But anyways, that’s I
01:27:34 I’m not him, right?
01:27:36 >> Yeah. I can’t really say for sure.
01:27:39 >> I have grown up an error myself. So,
01:27:42 >> yeah. Um the um Clement was one of the
01:27:47 uh was one Clement and Polycarp were the
01:27:51 par two of the earliest of the church
01:27:53 fathers.
01:27:54 Yeah. Well, I’ll just say this. The if
01:27:58 people saw the church fathers today,
01:28:00 they would excommunicate them. Even in
01:28:02 the Catholic Church, they
01:28:05 >> people use them when they’re convenient
01:28:07 and throw them away when they’re not.
01:28:10 >> Yep.
01:28:11 >> Yeah. Uh it’s really And it’s really
01:28:13 interesting when you uh It’s really
01:28:16 interesting watching um Protestant and
01:28:19 Catholic apologists cite the early
01:28:21 Christian fathers. It’s kind of funny,
01:28:23 but um
01:28:27 >> why I’ll just say why are they quoting
01:28:30 scriptures? But anyways, let’s move on.
01:28:32 >> I know. I know. Because the scriptures
01:28:34 actually don’t say what they need them
01:28:37 to say.
01:28:38 >> Um
01:28:40 >> so the point is,
01:28:44 >> well, there is one more verse
01:28:46 point you want to do just so you’re
01:28:47 aware.
01:28:48 >> Yeah. Yeah. So the point is the
01:28:49 substitutionary atonement is spoken of
01:28:52 by both Paul and Peter. They both they
01:28:56 both and they’re both and it’s and it
01:28:58 draws on
01:29:01 and it was first taught it was and the
01:29:04 first teaching of it that we see is in
01:29:07 the sacrifices that Adam Cain and Abel
01:29:11 the Adam and Abel gave is that sub of
01:29:14 that substit that’s the first instance
01:29:17 that we see that substitutionary
01:29:18 atonement taught and the substitutionary
01:29:22 atonement is The um
01:29:28 is also be is also beautifully shown in
01:29:33 the land covenant
01:29:35 where in the land covenant with Abraham
01:29:40 made by Ya as Ya alone walks through the
01:29:45 broken and bloodied animals
01:29:49 saying that he will be broken
01:29:52 so that Israel, his people,
01:29:57 not by blood,
01:30:00 but by
01:30:03 obedience
01:30:05 may have the land.
01:30:10 That substitutionary atonement is hinted
01:30:12 at there and it’s shown throughout the
01:30:15 Old Testament. If you don’t believe that
01:30:17 the law teaches the gospel, that’s
01:30:19 because you’re you don’t know the law.
01:30:23 >> Well, yeah. You you haven’t really read
01:30:26 the Old Testament and the five books of
01:30:29 Moses with the right eyes, it
01:30:31 >> and because and and because you don’t
01:30:33 know the law, you don’t even really know
01:30:35 the gospel.
01:30:38 >> Yeah. Um
01:30:40 because if you don’t know what the
01:30:42 problem is, how do you know he came to
01:30:45 resolve
01:30:47 Because if the law is done away, then he
01:30:50 made himself absolutely irrelevant.
01:30:53 >> Yeah. Well, if there’s no law, you don’t
01:30:54 need a savior.
01:30:56 >> Yeah.
01:30:57 >> The Book of Mormon and the New Testament
01:30:59 teaches that. So,
01:31:01 >> so I think that uh and so let’s see. Uh
01:31:06 Brennan, read verse 25 for us real
01:31:08 quick.
01:31:10 For ye were as sheep going astray, but
01:31:13 are now returned unto the shepherd and
01:31:15 bishop of your souls.
01:31:17 >> Ye were as sheep going astray, but now
01:31:21 are returned with the onto the shepherd.
01:31:25 Okay,
01:31:27 all of us that I mean that
01:31:33 that’s for anybody who’s having to
01:31:36 learn,
01:31:37 you know, in in many ways these two
01:31:40 chapters are for all of us
01:31:43 in this era because nobody knows the
01:31:48 way. Nobody hardly knows the way.
01:31:54 There’s not or at least there’s not very
01:31:56 many who do.
01:31:57 >> Yeah. I think it’s better to say there’s
01:31:58 harm
01:31:58 >> unadulterate unadulterated.
01:32:01 >> Yeah.
01:32:02 >> Um
01:32:07 and he will again
01:32:11 send one mighty and strong like unto
01:32:14 Moses
01:32:16 to return the sheep to the shepherd and
01:32:20 bishop of their souls who is Yeshua
01:32:22 Hamashiach.
01:32:26 If you have if you have turned to Torah,
01:32:30 you will recognize him.
01:32:34 >> I’ll just tell you why. It’s because
01:32:36 he’s going to be teaching it.
01:32:37 >> Yeah. If you’ve turned to Torah, you’ll
01:32:40 recognize him. If you haven’t, you will
01:32:42 reject him.
01:32:44 >> Yeah.
01:32:45 >> At least until, you know, at least at
01:32:47 first.
01:32:50 If you because you haven’t you haven’t
01:32:53 uh your heart isn’t your heart isn’t for
01:32:57 Elohim
01:32:59 because what is Torah? It is the
01:33:01 revelation of the mind and will of
01:33:03 Elohim. And if you’re So if you’re not
01:33:05 for Torah, you’re not for the either the
01:33:08 mind or the heart of Elohim.
01:33:13 You don’t like him. You don’t love him.
01:33:17 You need a heart transplant.
01:33:25 Go to the Yeshua, receive that heart
01:33:28 transplant now.
01:33:30 Come under his covering. Keep his
01:33:32 commandments. In the name of Yeshua
01:33:35 Hamashiach.
01:33:37 Amen.
