Ever since I came across Richard Bushman, a top LDS / Brighamite church historian, stating he didn’t believe in Patriarchal Blessings in somewhat recent recording, I have wanted to say something about them.

I do believe Patriarchal Blessings can be inspired from YHWH. Considering that I resigned my name from the LDS / Brighamite church, you might be wondering how I can believe such a thing. Considering how YHWH Elohim will use the wicked for His righteous purposes, as He did with Pharaoh. I see no reason He can’t use anyone to proclaim a prophecy as he did with Caiaphas, who was an evil man who sought to murder Yeshua / Jesus because he didn’t like what Yeshua / Jesus taught and sought to keep power and influence for himself. In Daniel 2 we are told how YHWH Elohim gave a prophecy to Nebuchadnezzar, a wicked man, in his dreams. Or how YHWH gave a dream to the Pharaho’s chief baker that prophecied of his death in Genesis 40 because of his wickedness. With Joseph of Egypt being a type of Yeshua’s / Jesus’ first coming aka Messiah ben Joseph, Genesis 40 with Joseph being a symbol of the Messiah, the chief baker a symbol of the unrepentant theif and the cheif butler being a symbol for the repentant theif, Genesis 40 is a prophecy about Yeshua / Jesus on the cross just before He went into prision in the depths of the earth. Then in Genesis 41 YHWH Elohim gives Pharaoh, not a righteous man, two very prophetic dreams.

Romans 9:17 For the scripture saith unto Pharaoh, Even for this same purpose have I [YHWH] raised thee [Pharaoh] up, that I [YHWH] might shew My [YHWH] power in thee [Pharaoh], and that My [YHWH] name might be declared throughout all the earth.

Although YHWH Elohim can use the mouth of anyone, including a donkey’s, to teach us truth. That does not mean it’s wise to study wicked men’s teaches to find the few things YHWH Elohim may have inspired them to say or to dream. We are to study the best books according the standards of YHWH Elohim, which is Torah, not the standards of the world.

D&C (LDS 88:118) (RLDS 85) (1835 7) (1844 7) And as all have not faith, seek ye diligently and teach one another words of wisdom; yea, seek ye out of the best books words of wisdom; seek learning, even by study and also by faith.

D&C (LDS 90:15) (RLDS 87) (1835 84) (1844 85) And set in order the churches, and study and learn, and become acquainted with all good books, and with languages, tongues, and people.

Paul in his duties as an apostle, who are to go out to the world preaching the gospel of Yeshua the promised Messiah in the world to non-believers, came to the city of Berea. In addition to them believing what he taught, Paul praised the Bereans for checking what he taught them in the scriptures, which was the Tanak / Old Testament at that time.

Acts 17:11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

Below is a quote from Joseph Smith that also brings how what is taught should not contradict the scriptures or in other words a previous revelation. Generally people don’t like to quote this one in full and usually put in … in the parts they don’t understand. To full understand this quote from Joseph Smith, we need to understand that Joseph Smith is using Hebrew idioms and imagery in it. Hair is symbolic of authority, color deals with behaviour. It is also helpful to know about the parable of the rock and the sand at the end of the Sermon on Torah as I like to call it, which is more known as Sermon on the Mount and Sermon at the Temple. The phrase “color of his hair” deals with the type of authority the angel has, and how he exersises it. Sandy in “sandy colored hair” is from the parable in the Sermon on Torah, in that it is the wicked who will not want you to be on the rock. Another mystery with the sand deals with in how Satan operates. Satan takes pieces of YHWH Elohim’s revaltions aka the rock, and chips pieces off, aka sand, from the whole, getting you to focus on just one or two parts instead of the whole, just as the demon Joseph Smith is talking about in the quote is doing. Making such that you are not standing on a firm foundation but sandy one and will fall when the heat of others persecutions comes.

There have also been ministering angels in the church which were of satan appearing as an angel of light:— A sister in the State of New York had a vision who said it was told her that if she would go to a certain place in the woods an angel would appear to her,— she went at the appointed time and saw a glorious personage descending arrayed in white, with SANDY COLORED HAIR; he commenced and told her to fear God and said that her husband was called to do great things, but that he must not go more than one hundred miles from home or he would not return; whereas God had called him to go to the ends of the earth; and he has since been more than one thousand miles from home, and is yet alive. Many true things were spoken by this personage and many things that were false.—How it may be asked was this known to be a bad angel? By the COLOR OF HIS HAIR; that is one of the signs that he can be known by, and BY HIS CONTRADICTING A FORMER REVELATION.

Historically Patriarchal Blessing were not kept secret. They were shared with friends and family to help them to live worthy to receive the blessings that are pronounced in them. But sadly in the LDS / Brighamite church many Patriarchal Blessings are not inspired and simply copy paste other Patriarchal Blessings they study. Because members were starting to see the similarities of the Patriarchal Blessings and how they were not coming true, the LDS / Brighamite church started to encouraged people not to share their Patriarchal Blessings with others. Some Restoration Churches still allow and encourage their members to share their Patriarchal Blessings such that friends and family can help each other live worthy for them and help each other understand them.

I remember being encouraged to get my Patriarchal Blessing at twelve or fourteen years old, and I did want to receive it. I did the interview with my bishop to see if I was worthy, in his eyes, to receive it. I made an appointment with the Stake Patriarch to receive it. But I didn’t show up. I was scared what might be in it, even though I wanted to have it. What ultimately caused me to get my Patriarchal Blessing was the fact that the LDS / Brighamite church requires you to receive it before you go on your mission. I am glad I received my Patriarchal Blessing, even thought I don’t believe all of it is from YHWH Elohim, but I was right for being scared about what mine could contain, as it does have some scarey things in it. In fact, what prompeted me to finally to write this post, was me reviewing my Patriarchal Blessing just before writing this post.

If anyone knows of someone who has received a Patriarchal Blessing from Robert E Philbrick in the Salt Lake Rose Park North Stake that would be willing to share their Patriarchal Blessing with me, which I will keep in confidence, please send them my way. As although I do believe portions of my Patriarchal Blessing are from YHWH Elohim and have come true, I am still interested in seeing other blessings from Robert E Philbrick.

May my family and friends help me live righteously that I may receive the blessings that are contained in my Patriarchal Blessing that are from the Elohim of Abraham, Issac and Jacob that are in it.

Without any further ado, below is my Patriarchal Blessing, which parts of it I do believe were inspired from the Elohim of Abraham, Issac and Jacob. Other parts are traditions of the LDS / Brighamite church that the Patriarch felt like he needed to put in. Sometimes Stake Presidents tell Patriarches things to put in them, now if they are supposed to be from YHWH Elohim why is that happening. Some parts I don’t believe because they contradict scriptures.

Supervising the Work of the Stake Patriarch. The stake president supervises the work of the stake patriarch as outlined in Information and Suggestions for the Patriarchs. He should not delegate this responsibility to one of his counselors. Patriarchs benefit from a close relationship with their stake president.

The stake president interviews the patriarch at least twice each year. He also reviews blessings the patriarch has given at least twice a year. As needed, the stake president may make general suggestions regarding the content of the patriarch’s blessings. The stake president also discusses the patriarch’s feelings about the work, the health and welfare of his family, and any other matters on which the patriarch seeks or needs counsel.

Brother Steven James Retz, by the power in the Holy Melchizedek Priesthood and by authority of my appointment, I lay my hands upon your head and give unto you a Patriarchal Blessing. I encourage you to read this often for guidance, direction, comfort and to come to an understanding of the deeper meanings of the words the Lord desires you to hear.

Steven, you are a son of God. He knows you. He loves you and is aware of your presence upon the earth and the circumstances in which you are living at this time.

He is pleased that you have decide to come to receive this special priesthood blessing, to bring order into your life and to give you that which you need to know for proceeding forward.

I bless you to be prayerful, to call upon your Father in heaven daily, giving thanks unto Him for the blessings you receive and seeking of Him the things that you desire to have and know and be able to come to know His voice and hear the prompting of the Spirit.

I bless you to increase your faith and your testimony in the knowledge that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and it is through the power of the resurrection and the atonement and Him that you may return to your Father in heaven and receive all that He has to give you. This knowledge Steven, will literally save your life and bring to you powers that you have not imagined have existed up to this time. This testimony should be given often, in appropriate places, for your benefit of strengthening it and so that those who will hear will also gain strength from you.

You have been blessed with a strong temple that houses your spirit. Treat this body with reverence and respect, taking nothing into it that will in any way cause it to lose strength, to be defiled or to be unable to perform those things for which it was given to you. Obey the Word of Wisdom. You have already learned that through discipline, practice, patience and constant work to train this body to accomplish things that are beyond the normal accomplishment without this training. This same strength of discipline and character will make our way in life successful and provide for you direction in accomplishing things that you desire to do.

You have keen mind, capable of learning and retaining knowledge and using it in a proper way. You have strength here you need to continually work upon, training with every bit of much vitality and vigor as your physical prowess.

You will become more proficient in gathering information in reading, pondering and expressing yourself in the concepts that you desire to bring forth. I bless you with a renewed vitality in improving your mind through your life. It is a resource that you will find most necessary to accomplish the things you will desire to do.

I encourage you to study the scriptures daily, to come to a greater understanding of the truths that are there, to hear the will of the Lord and the things He desires you to do. This will open up in your mind great avenues of strength and vision and it also will put into perspective all the knowledge that you shall gain, experiences that you will have in the opportunities that will be before you.

I bless you Steven, to awaken to the potentials that you have within your being that your mind will be quickened, that your thoughts will be strong towards developing and improving these resources that the Lord has given to you. You have many talents and abilities that you have yet to discover and to work upon and they will assist you in performing the things on the earth that you desire to do.

You have a keen mind that you have a capability of analyzing problems, searching out and finding ways of making things work. You have come to a knowledge of the new technologies in the land. You have but scratched the surface, merely, for what has yet to come into your head and mind and what is there for you. I admonish you to be straightforward and to go forth and to prepare yourself in the directions that you are working now plus those others that will come into your mind.

Steven, you will be given an opportunity to go on a mission. I bless you with a desire to prepare yourself, to pray to the Lord and to listen to His counsel, His guidance and to seek at every opportunity you can to be spiritually strengthened that you can go forth on this mission and accomplish the things that you desire to do. If you will follow the rules of the mission and the counsel that will be given to you, if you will gird up your loins and be full of energy and vitality, you will go forth and touch the hearts of many people and they will be able to hear from you the things of the gospel that will create a change in their lives and will make you a sense, a savior on Mount Zion. Yes Steven, you will be successful in your mission if you will apply the vitality there that you have in other parts of your life in which you wish to accomplish. You will come to love the people that you teach, you will have energy and vitality to go forth. You will have no fear, even upon a turndown and those not desiring to hear what you have to say, to stand as being steadfast and with persistence go forth and to continue the work. Yes, you will do much in this area and it will be a great preparation for the rest of your life.

I encourage you to learn a language. You have the capability to do this. The Lord will assist you and you will be able to speak in a tongue that will be familiar to those who you will teach and they will learn much quickly.

Soon you will go into the Temple of the Lord and there receive your endowment and all those ordinances that are necessary for you to walk back to the presence of the Father and to gain eternal exaltation. Your eyes of understanding will be opened, new vistas will be given to you to see and observe, new directions will be given for you to follow and to accomplish those things in the gospel that you will need to prepare you for life.

The time will also come when you will choose a daughter of the Lord to be a companion and helpmeet for you. You will create an eternal family through a sealing in the Temple and to that family will come children, some of Father’s choicest for you, as parents, to train and to teach and to prepare for the missions that they will have upon the earth. Steven, your greatest joys and satisfactions in life will come from the bounds of your own family, from the love that you will be able to give and receive and this joy will bring happiness in every phase of your life. Choose carefully this daughter that she be one that you love without error. She is being prepared at this time to be with you. Let the Lord assist you in the great choice.

You hold the priesthood of God. You have the power to act and speak in His name. I bless you with a desire to magnify this great power that is within you and has been entrusted to you. You will give blessing of high spiritual qualities to those that need. Prepare yourself to do this that you may do so under the Spirit. Treat this priesthood with dignity and reverence and it will be of great service and power to you and those about. This is not something that everyman has, but you do have it and you have the capability of extending this great work into the world.

Stay close to the brethren who will preside over you. Accept any call that they will extend to you willingly. Be diligent and perform it with valiant effort. Each call will prepare you for greater responsibility. The time will come when you will be a powerful influence in the Lord’s work. You may sit in judgment of others, you may be able to extend to them strength and abilities and opportunities that will help them with their growth. This all comes within the circle of the priesthood and the power therein.

You are of Israel, through the House of Joseph and the loins of Ephraim. You may receive the blessing given through Abraham down this great royal lineage and will have responsibility in assisting in the bringing to pass the gathering of Father’s children in this dispensation. You are not here by chance at this time. It was your choice to come now. Previously you were taught, trained, proven and foreordained to do great work upon the earth. It was your desire to come during this dispensation of the fullness of times in order to assist in this work. You were so cheerful and glad when this opportunity came to you. The reason for this is that you learned it well and you now are re-re-learning it in a sense, and it will be like learning things that you have already known.

You have been blessed with goodly parents. Stay close to them. Abide by their counsel and guidance. Let your father bestow blessing upon your head and assist you at any time that you have a need. Counsel with your mother, let her give advice to you and assist you in troubles or problems that you may have. These are folks that you can trust and who love you and will assist you in any way that they can. However, the decisions that you make belong to you because of your agency but always keep them, your parents, informed of your achievements, your times of stress or problems in which you may need their assistance, and you will find great happiness there. Stay close to your sister. You are important in her life and she will look up to you.

Now Steven, there is a caution to be hand in your life and that is this, the adversary is aware of your relationship to your Father in heaven and of your capabilities in serving Him, so do all that you can to follow the will of the Lord so that you will weaken the power of the adversary in your life. He will try through various subtle enticements and temptation to pull you away from the path of righteousness. I bless you with the strength and the power and capability of overcoming these things in your life. It is important that you choose your associates well because sometimes those that you love and care about may tend to pull you away from the path of righteousness. This is one of the subtle ways Satan work. I only caution you to be aware of these things because he will try. Steven remember, you can weaken his power over you if you will do what is correct and follow the ways of the Lord.

I bless you with the power of discernment that you will be able to tell right and wrong and make choices that will be for you best good. This great blessing will affect you in every part of your life, in your daily work, in your home or wherever you may be.

I bless you to be forgiving, to forgive anyone who will offend you in any way. Carry no contention, hostility, anger, unrighteous judgment towards any person. These characteristics make it difficult for the power of the Holy Ghost to work through you. This vital source is important and it is your responsibility to make Him a constant companion. Therein you will find joy and happiness.

The work that you will do in life will concern much to do with other people. You will give service in some of the technical areas that you have a great love for and do. You will also help them through guidance, counsel and teaching. This is important for you to remember.

You have a talent of leadership. You will have the opportunity to lead others and to assist them in the following correct principles and going in right directions, not only in the gospel but in the areas of work. Prepare yourself well, be confident in yourself. I bless you with the power to express yourself to groups of people, that you will be able to say the things you desire to say with confidence, without fear. You will not be worried about who is listening or the number of people present. You will be able to express yourself well, preferably under the power of the Spirit. Take this not lightly because this talent is going to be of vital important to you.

You, living in a world of uncertainty and strain, will come into situation where adversity will come into your life. I bless you to fear not these things. Should adversity come upon you, bear it well. Do not lose your faith. Call upon the powers of heaven to assist you in overcoming these things. Sometimes these are given to build character within you, to strengthen you and to give you understanding. Also, many choices will have to be made in your life. Because of the noise and misinformation that is going forth, you will have to sort out and choose those things which are right for you and right to follow the principles that you have learned to do. You will be touched by some of these influences but stay steadfast in the work and strive to do the best that you possibly can. The Lord will reward you for striving and for preparing yourself, not necessarily for perfection, but for attempting to perfect yourself.

I bless you with the desire to love others and assist them and come into helping relationships because service will be one of your great missions upon the earth and through this service you will help many others to perform better, to realize their potential and to be able to go forth in a strong way and you too, will also gain from this. Steven, you will gain wisdom of these things which have been mentioned and find joy therein.

You will see many spiritual manifestations coming forth in your lifetime, not too far distance. Be prepared for them. You will be amazed by them and sometimes have fearful notions in your heart but do not fear them, the Lord knows what is going on and is in control and you will have a part in the assisting Him in leavening the loaf in bringing to rest and peace some of these troubles that are in the world. Yes, there are great blessing s in store for you so be prepared at all times for them. Have confidence in yourself, have confidence in the Lord.

You have been watched over by your guardian angles since the beginning. They have helped you over moments of stress, doubt and uncertainty. They have been with you even when your decisions have taken you away from a path that perhaps seemed to be the best way to go. They have always been there to see that you have their strength by you. They will continue to help you. Steven, you will never be alone but always under the guidance of your Father in heaven and these special messengers that are in your life.

There are many blessing that will come to you. Be ready for them, recognize them, act upon them and listen to the whisperings of the Spirit and you will gain knowledge of the direction that you should go. I advise you to not sit back at any time waiting for a blessing to come to you, but to be actively engaged and participating in things of the home, the community, the church, your work or wherever you are and you will be amazed at the things that will come into your life. You will wonder at times, how come. The reason will be that your having great assistance from power on high. Be happy, be joyful, let patience come into your life. Do not become impatient with yourself or with others and you will find much more peace and happiness there.

I implore you to stay close to the things in the gospel, to listen to the prompting of the Spirit, to recognize when something is trying to urge you to go in a direction that may be different from what you are doing. Should you make wrong choices, recognize them quickly and redirect your life and you will find the things that you are seeking. Your wants will be provided in so much has you will follow the ways of the Lord. You will never want. Your physical stature will be strong. I bless you with health and strength and energy and vitality as much as you keep yourself in good stead with the laws that conform to these types of activities.

You will come forth on the morning of the First Resurrection, with your loved ones, clothed in glory and meet those that you have know upon the earth. You will declare your stewardship before the Lord. Steven, this is another beginning for you as you move on into the eternities with great amount of work ahead of you, things that you do not even visualize at this time, but by preparing yourself here now those things will become a reality to you and you will find joy and thanksgiving in these things.
