I don’t know how many people know this, I sure didn’t until I started to look into the details, but the KJV gospel accounts of the resurrection have inconsistencies in them, and the Joseph Smith Translation fixes the problematic ones.
First one is how many women were at the tomb, was it one as stated in John 20:1 or two from Matthew 28:1 or three as recorded in Mark 16:1. I don’t see this as a concern for me personally as the authors could be simply focusing on the women/woman who they believed the audience would know. The JST does nothing to fix this while restoring other parts of the text in these verses.
KJV John 20:1 The first day of the week cometh MARY MADDALENE early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre.
JST JST John 20:1 The first day of the week cometh MARY MAGDALENE early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre, and two angels sitting thereon.KJV Matthew 28:1 In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came MARY MAGDALENE and the other MARY to see the sepulchre.
JST Matthew 28:1 In the end of the Sabbath day, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, early in the morning, came MARY MAGDALENE, and the other MARY to see the sepulchre.
KJV Mark 16:1 And when the sabbath was past, MARY MAGDALENE, and MARY the mother of James, and SALOME, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him.
JST Mark 16:1 And when the Sabbath was past, MARY MAGDALENE, and MARY the mother of James and SALOME, bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him.
Second issue is how many angels were present at the tomb. Was it one as stated in Matthew 28:2-5 and Mark 16:5 or was it two as written in Luke 24:4 and John 20:12. In addition two of these passages Matthew 28:2-5 and John 20:12 states angel or angels where Mark 16:15 and Luke 24:4 it states man or men. Depending on your beliefs about men and angels this may or may not be a problem for you. Joseph Smith restored the passages to state two angels, in JST Matthew 28:2-4, JST Mark 16:3, JST Luke 24:3-4. Luke 24:4 had no corrections done to it.
KJV Matthew 28:2-5
2 And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for THE [ONE] ANGEL of the Lord [YHWH] descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it. 3 HIS [ONE] countenance was like lightning, and HIS [ONE] raiment white as snow: 4 And for fear of HIM [ONE] the keepers did shake, and became as dead men. 5 And THE [ONE] ANGEL answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I [ONE] know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified.JST Matthew 28:2-4
2 And behold, there had been a great earthquake; for the TWO ANGELS of the Lord [YHWH] descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it. 3 (3-4) And THEIR [TWO] countenance was like lightning, and their raiment white as snow; and for fear of THEM [TWO] the keepers did shake, and became as though they were dead. 4 (5) And the ANGELS [TWO] answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye; for WE [TWO] know that ye seek Jesus who was crucified.KJV Mark 16:5 And entering into the sepulchre, they saw A [ONE] young MAN sitting on the right side, clothed in a long white garment; and they were affrighted.
JST Mark 16:3 (4–5) But when they looked, they saw that the stone was rolled away, (for it was very great,) and TWO ANGELS sitting thereon, clothed in a long white garments; and they were affrighted.KJV Luke 24:4 And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, TWO MEN stood by them in shining garments:
JST Luke 24:3-4
3 (3–4) And they entered into the sepulchre, and not finding the body of the Lord [YHWH] Jesus [Yeshua], they were much perplexed thereabout; 4 (5) And were affrighted, and bowed down their faces to the earth. But behold the ANGELS [TWO] said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead?KJV John 20:12 And seeth TWO ANGELS in white sitting, the ONE [TWO] at the head, and the OTHER [TWO] at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain.
There is not a verse of scripture that I am aware of that comes right out and explicitly pronounces Yeshua/Jesus as the Tree of Life, but the Book of Mormon, especially in Tree of Life visions, and the Bible allude to this fact a lot. First thing to remember is that men are trees, as brought up in Mark 8:22-26. The video Tree of Life by Bible Project brings this out starting with the garden of Eden. The article Christ The Tree Of Life gets into many details on this, along with these What is the Tree of Life? Bible Meaning and Importance, Reflections on the Tree of Life, Part 3: Christ and the Tree (this one expounds the Book of Mormon and Bible).
Mark 8:24 And he looked up, and said, I see men as trees, walking.

With that in mind I hope you will have no trouble seeing that the two angels from Yeshua’s/Jesus’ resurrection are reminiscent of the cherubim [plural] guarding the Tree of Life from the garden of Eden.
Genesis 3:24 So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.
The Ark of the Covenant/Testimony also has two cherubim [plural], even at the two ends just as in John 20:12. In fact I believe John 20:12 language is borrowing from Exodus 25:18-22. If you don’t know what the Ark of the Covenant is, What is in the Ark of the Covenant? is a good start .
Exodus 25:18-22
18 And thou shalt make TWO CHERUBIMS of gold, of beaten work shalt thou make them, in the TWO ENDS of the mercy seat. 19 And make one CHERUB on the ONE END, and the OTHER CHERUB on the OTHER END: even of the mercy seat shall ye make the CHERUBIMS on the TWO ENDS thereof. 20 And the CHERUBIMS shall stretch forth their wings on high, covering the MERCY SEAT with their wings, and THEIR FACES shall look one to another; toward the MERCY SEAT shall the faces of the CHERUBIMS be. 21 And thou shalt put the MERCY SEAT above upon the ark; and in the ark thou shalt put the TESTIMONY that I shall give thee. 22 And there I will meet with thee, and I will commune with thee from above the MERCY SEAT, from between the TWO CHERUBIMS which are upon the ark of the TESTIMONY, of all things which I will give thee in commandment unto the children of Israel.
John 20:12 And seeth TWO ANGELS in white sitting, the ONE [TWO] at the head, and the OTHER [TWO] at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain.
The Ark of YHWH contained three things 1) the law written on the two tablets 2) some manna 3) Aaron’s rod that blossomed with almonds. What was inside the Ark of the Covenant? gets into the details of what was in the ark along with What was inside the ark of the covenant?.
Joshua 3:13 And it shall come to pass, as soon as the soles of the feet of the priests that bear the ARK OF THE LORD [YHWH], the Lord [YHWH] of all the earth, shall rest in the waters of Jordan, that the waters of Jordan shall be cut off from the waters that come down from above; and they shall stand upon an heap.
Hebrews 9:4 Which had the golden censer, and the ark of the covenant overlaid round about with gold, wherein was the golden pot that had MANNA, and AARON’S ROD THAT BUDDED, and the TABLES OF THE COVENANT;
Exodus 25:21-22
21 And thou shalt put the mercy seat above upon the ARK; and IN the ARK thou shalt put the TESTIMONY [LAW] that I shall give thee. 22 And there I will meet with thee, and I will COMMUNE with thee from above the MERCY SEAT, from between the TWO CHERUBIMS which are upon the ark of the TESTIMONY, of all things which I will give thee in commandment unto the children of Israel.Exodus 16:33-34
33 And Moses said unto Aaron, Take a POT, and put an omer full of MANNA therein, and lay it up before the Lord, to be kept for your generations. 34 As the Lord commanded Moses, so Aaron laid IT up before the TESTIMONY, to be kept.Numbers 17:10 And the Lord said unto Moses, Bring AARON’S ROD again BEFORE the TESTIMONY, to be KEPT for a TOKEN against the rebels; and thou shalt quite take away their murmurings from me, that they die not.
Yeshua/Jesus is the perfect example of how to keep the law/testimony/covenant. The article Jesus Our Perfect Example by Earl Kimbrough does a great job laying this out. In other words Yeshua/Jesus is the Law made flesh.
1 Peter 2:21-22
21 For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps: 22 Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:
1 John 2:3-6
3 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. 4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. 5 But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him. 6 He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.Mosiah (LDS 15:2) (RLDS 8:29-30) And because He [God/Elohim] dwelleth in FLESH He shall be called the Son of God, and having subjected the FLESH to the WILL [LAW] of the Father, being the Father and the Son—
A lot of Christians will say “what would Jesus do”. I believe a better saying is “what DID Jesus do”. If we don’t know what Jesus actually did and the reasons behind why He did them, we won’t have any clue what Jesus would do in this or that situation. Nor do we really know Jesus or understand Him or His ways. For if we really know Jesus and understand His ways, we would conduct ourselves like He did while He was tabernacled here on earth and do the things He did. I believe that includes celebrating Feastival of Lights, see John 10:22-23, and the appointed times, moadim (H4150), commanded in Leviticus 23. I promise you will gain deeper insights from the scriptures, and thus the gospel, as you study about the Feasts of God for all mankind found in Leviticus 23 and celebrate them.
On the Morrow / Morning
Yeshua/Jesus is the bread/manna of life.
Exodus 16:31-32
31 And the house of Israel called the name thereof MANNA: and it was like coriander seed, white; and the taste of it was like WAFERS made with HONEY. 32 And Moses said, This is the thing which the Lord [YHWH] commandeth, Fill an omer of it to be kept for your generations; that they may see the BREAD wherewith I have fed you in the wilderness, when I brought you forth from the land of Egypt.John 6:28-35,48-51,58
28 Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? 29 Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent. 30 They said therefore unto him, What sign shewest thou then, that we may see, and believe thee? what dost thou work? 31 Our fathers did eat MANNA in the desert; as it is written, He gave them BREAD from HEAVEN to eat. 32 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Moses gave you not that BREAD from HEAVEN; but my Father giveth you the true BREAD from HEAVEN. 33 For the BREAD of GOD [ELOHIM] is HE which cometh down from HEAVEN, and giveth life unto the world. 34 Then said they unto him, Lord, evermore give us this BREAD. 35 And Jesus said unto them, I AM the BREAD of LIFE: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.
…
48 [Yeshua/Jesus] I am that BREAD of LIFE. 49 Your fathers did eat MANNA in the wilderness, and are dead. 50 This is the BREAD which cometh down from HEAVEN, that a man may eat thereof, and not die. 51 I am the LIVING BREAD which came down from HEAVEN: if any man eat of this BREAD, he shall live for ever: and the BREAD that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.
…
58 This is that BREAD which came down from HEAVEN: not as your fathers did eat MANNA, and are dead: he that eateth of this BREAD shall live for ever.
Because of Yeshua’s/Jesus’ priesthood [Levi/Aaron] He has the power and authority [Rod] to watch over [almond] our lives to make it flourish [blossom] when we follow in His footsteps.
Exodus 28:1 And take thou unto thee Aaron thy brother, and his sons with him, from among the children of Israel, that he may MINISTER unto me in the PRIEST’S OFFICE, even AARON, Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar, AARON’S sons.
A ROD IS USED IN THE Bible to symbolize power and authority—destructive power, such as the “rod of iron”; the rod of discipline; and especially the rod of assistance and comfort as suggested in our theme text.
The Rod and Staff of the LordExodus 4:17 [YHWH said] And thou [Moses] shalt take this ROD in thine HAND, wherewith thou shalt do signs.
Two Hebrew words comprise most of the references usually translated generically as “flower,” “bloom,” “blossom” and their verb formations. Their root or extended meanings convey a sense of the vivid character and emotional associations that biblical writers attached to them. Peraḥ suggests an image of breaking forth, budding, sprouting, even bursting. Ṣîṣ has evokes a shining, sparkling or gleaming. The first associates flowers with a spectacular, spontaneous growth and the second with a glorious, radiant, shimmering beauty.
Dictionary of Biblical Imagery, page 294. InterVarsity Press. Kindle Edition. The Hebrew word for almond, “shakeid,” also means “watchful,” so symbolically the almond represents God’s watchfulness over his people.
The Significance of Almonds in the Old TestamentBSB Jeremiah 1:11-12
11 And the word of the LORD came to me, asking, “Jeremiah, what do you see?” “I see a branch of an almond tree,” I replied. 12 “You have observed correctly,” said the LORD, “for I am watching over My word to accomplish it.”
The last dilemma is when the women saw the angels either before they told the disciples as in Matthew 28:7, Mark 16:4-7 and Luke 24:9 or after in John 20:1-2,10-12. The JST restores the last part of John 20:1 which resolves this discrepancy.
KJV Matthew 28:7-8
7 [The ANGEL said] And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead; and, behold, he goeth before you into Galilee; there shall ye see him: lo, I have told you. 8 And they DEPARTED quickly from the SEPULCHRE with fear and great joy; and did run TO BRING HIS [YESHUA/JESUS] DISCIPLES WORD.KJV Mark 16:4-7
4 And when they looked, they saw that the stone was rolled away: for it was very great. 5 And ENTERING into the SEPULCHRE, they saw a YOUNG MAN [ANGEL] sitting on the right side, clothed in a long white garment; and they were affrighted. 6 And HE SAITH unto them, Be not affrighted: Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, which was crucified: he is risen; he is not here: behold the place where they laid him. 7 But GO YOUR WAY, TELL HIS [YESHUA/JESUS] DISCIPLES and Peter that he goeth before you into Galilee: there shall ye see him, as he said unto you.KJV Luke 24:9 And RETURNED FROM the SEPULCHRE, and TOLD ALL THESE THINGS unto the ELEVEN [DISCIPLES], and to all the rest.
KJV John 20:1-2,10-12
1 The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, UNTO the SEPULCHRE, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre. 2 THEN SHER RUNNETH, and cometh TO SIMON PETER, and to the OTHER DISCIPLE, whom Jesus loved, and saith unto them, They have taken away the Lord out of the sepulchre, and we know not where they have laid him.
…
10 THEN the DISCIPLES WENT AWAY again unto their own home. 11 But MARY STOOD WITHOUT at the SEPULCHRE weeping: and as she wept, she stooped down, and looked into the sepulchre, 12 And SEETH TWO ANGELS in white sitting, the ONE [TWO] at the head, and the OTHER [TWO] at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain.JST John 20:1 The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre, AND two angels sitting thereon.
In conclusion I believe the JST restores meaning to the Gospels regarding Yeshua’s/Jesus resurrection and is inline with the imagery from Torah.
