Abraham 3:22-23
A 22 Now the Lord had shown unto me, Abraham, the INTELLIGENCES
B that were organized before the world was; and among all these there were many of the NOBLE and GREAT ones;
A 23 And God [Elohim] saw these SOULS
B that they were GOOD, and He stood in the midst of them, and He said: These I will make my RULERS;
A for He stood among those that were SPIRITS,
B and He saw that they were GOOD;
A and He said unto me: ABRAHAM, thou art one of them;
B thou wast CHOSEN before thou wast born.

Below I have included relevant 1828 Webster’s Dictionary definition to help with what is being taught in Abraham 3:22-23. Such as ORGANIZE has to do with appointing leaders over people, which I’ll be honest I didn’t know that definition of ORGANIZE until I looked it up. But now knowing that, it fits perfectly with all the B stanzas.

1828 Webster’s Dictionary, ORGANIZE:
3) To distribute into suitable parts and APPOINT PROPER OFFICERS, that the WHOLE MAY ACT AS ONE BODY; as, to organize an army. So we say, to organize the house of representatives, which is done by the APPOINTMENT OF OFFICERS and verification of the powers of the several members. So we say, a club, a party or a faction is organized, when it takes a systemized form.

In the first three A stanzas Abraham uses the words INTELLIGENCE, SOUL and SPIRIT interchangeably. And if you look at the 1828 Webster’s Dictionary definitions below they all share a core meaning and the definitions use words from the others showing their overlapping concept. In the last A stanza Abraham tells us how Elohim states that he, Abraham, is one of these INTELLIGENCE / SOUL / SPIRIT that YHWH sets apart as a ruler.

I believe it’s important to point out that Abraham and Elohim did not say offspring here, but three different words for SPIRIT.

1828 Webster’s Dictionary, SPIRIT:
1) Primarily, wind; air in motion; hence, breath. All bodies have spirits and pneumatical parts within them.
5) The SOUL of man; the INTELLIGENT, IMMATERIAL and IMMORTAL part of human beings. [See SOUL] …
6) An IMMATERIAL INTELLIGENT substance. …
7) An IMMATERIAL INTELLIGENT BEING. …
12) A PERSON of activity; a man of life, vigor or enterprise.
19) An apparition; a GHOST.

In Genesis 17:4-5 YHWH tells Abraham that he is going to be a father of nations. In the Hebrew language, father is an idiom meaning leader. I believe it stems from the fact that the father is supposed to be the leader of his house aka family. I bring this up because it goes along with the B stanzas in Abraham 3:22-23 where Elohim is selecting spirits to be leaders including Abraham.

Genesis 17:4-5
4 As for Me [God/Elohim], behold, My covenant is with thee [Abraham], and thou shalt be a FATHER of many nations. 5 Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a FATHER of many nations have I made thee.

Jeremiah 1:5 is very reminiscent of Abraham 3:22-23, even with all translations on Biblehub. Both are saying they were selected by YHWH for their jobs before they were born.

Jeremiah 1:5 BEFORE I [YHWH] FORMED THEE [Jeremiah] IN THE BELLY I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ORDAINED thee a prophet unto the nations.

1828 Webster’s Dictionary, CHOSEN:

1) SELECTED from a number; PICKED OUT; taken in preference; ELECTED; PREDESTINATED; designated to office.
2) SELECT; distinguished by preference; eminent.

Perhaps the most famous verse with the word chosen in it is Matthew 22:14 at the end of the parable of the Wedding Feast in Matthew 22:1-14 which alludes to the Feast of Tabernacles from Leviticus 23. In the parable the King invited everyone to come to the wedding feast but sadly not all desired to go be with the King. One was mentioned who decided not to do what was required, to put on the provided wedding garment, Yeshua’s/Jesus’ righteousness, just like what happened in 2 Nephi (LDS 14:1) (RLDS 8:65) (Isaiah 4:1), and was cast out for not doing what was necessary.

Matthew 22:14 For many are called [invited], but few are CHOSEN [SELECT/ELECT].

Isaiah 61:10
A I will greatly REJOICE in the LORD [YHWH],
A my SOUL shall be JOYFUL in my GOD [ELOHIM];
B for he hath CLOTHED ME with the GARMENTS OF SALVATION,
B he hath COVERED ME with the ROBE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS,
C as a BRIDEGROOM DECKETH himself with ORNAMENTS,
C and as a BRIDE ADORNETH herself with her JEWELS.

2 Nephi (LDS 31:19) (RLDS 13:27-28) And now, my beloved brethren, after ye have gotten into this strait and narrow path, I would ask if all is done? Behold, I say unto you, Nay; for ye have not come thus far save it were by the word of Christ with unshaken faith in him, RELYING WHOLLY UPON THE MERITS OF HIM WHO IS MIGHTY TO SAVE.

2 Nephi (LDS 14:1) (RLDS 8:65) (Isaiah 4:1) And in that day seven [flee seven ways see Deuteronomy 28:25] women [churches] shall take hold of one man [Yeshua/Jesus], saying, We will eat our own bread [word/oral traditions], and wear our own apparel [righteousness]: only let us be called by thy name [no scripture where a woman is called by her husband’s name], to take away our reproach [sin see Proverbs 14:34].

1 Timothy 5:8 But if any PROVIDE NOT for HIS OWN, and specially for those of HIS OWN HOUSE, he hath DENIED THE FAITH, and is WORSE THAN AN INFIDEL.

Deuteronomy 28:25 The Lord shall cause thee to be SMITTEN before thine ENEMIES: thou shalt go out one way against them, and FLEE SEVEN WAYS before them: and shalt be removed into all the kingdoms of the earth.

When we look at the Greek word behind chosen in Matthew 22:14 we learn it is eklektos / G1588.

Strong’s Concordance, eklektos / G1588:
Definition: select, by implication favorite
Usage: chosen out, elect, choice, select, sometimes as subst: of those chosen out by God for the rendering of special service to Him …

Knowing these additional ways eklektos / G1588 is translated helps us better understand what is being taught along with over verses that use eklektos / G1588.

JST Matthew 24:19-20 (KJV Matthew 24:22)
19 (22) All things which have befallen them, are only the beginning of the sorrows which shall come upon them; and except those days should be shortened, there should none of their flesh be saved. 20 (22) But for the ELECT’S [EKLLEKTOS / G1588] sake, according to the COVENANT [COMMANDMENTS], those days shall be shortened.

23 (24) For in those days, there shall also arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall show great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if possible, they shall deceive the very ELECT [EKLLEKTOS / G1588], who are the ELECT [EKLLEKTOS / G1588] according to the COVENANT [COMMANDMENS]. 24 Behold, I speak these things unto you for the ELECT’S [EKLLEKTOS / G1588] sake.

40 (31) For the Son of Man shall come, and He shall send his angels before Him with the great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together the remainder of His ELECT [EKLLEKTOS / G1588] from the four winds; from one end of heaven to the other.

22 (20) And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved; but for the ELECT’S [EKLLEKTOS / G1588] sake, according to the COVENANT [COMMANDMENTS], those days shall be shortened.

After Moses tells the mix multitude to destroy the ways of the pagans he tells them it’s because they are to be holy and chosen people.

Deuteronomy 7:6 For thou art an HOLY PEOPLE unto the Lord [YHWH] thy God [Elohim]: the Lord [YHWH] thy God [Elohim] hath CHOSEN thee to be a special people unto Himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth.

Deuteronomy 7:9 Know therefore that the Lord [YHWH] thy God [Elohim], he is God [Elohim], the faithful God [Eohim], which keepeth COVENANT and mercy with them that love Him and keep His COMMANDMENTS to a thousand generations;

Moses reminds the mixed multitude of they are to be a chosen people, in the middle of listing commandments, because keeping the commandments of YHWH is what makes them a chosen people.

Deuteronomy 14:2 For thou art an HOLY PEOPLE unto the Lord thy God, and the Lord hath CHOSEN thee to be a peculiar people unto himself, above all the nations that are upon the earth.

In 1 Peter 1:2, Peter is telling us the same thing that the elect of Elohim keep YHWH’s commandments, and Elohim knew the chosen would before they were born because of His omniscience. Ephesians 1:4 is another example of the same teaching.

1 Peter 1:2 ELECT according to the FOREKNOWLEDGE of God [Elohim] the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto OBEDIENCE AND sprinkling of the BLOOD OF JESUS [YESHUA] CHRIST [MESSIAH]: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.

1828 Webster’s Dictionary, FOREKNOWLEDGE:
KNOWLEDGE of a thing BEFORE IT HAPPENS; prescience.

Ephesians 1:4 According as he hath CHOSEN us in him BEFORE the FOUNDADITON OF THE WORLD, that we should be HOLY and without blame before Him in LOVE:

John 14:15 If ye LOVE Me [Yeshua/Jesus], keep My COMMANDMENTS.

Alma (LDS 13:1-5) (RLDS 9:60-68) also talks about how men were called and set apart of YHWH Elohim before the foundations of the world on account of YHWH Elohim’s knowledge of what they would do before they did it, including keeping the commandments and teaching others to do the same.

For those who see problems with the self proclaimed leaders in the restoration today as I do, in D&C (LDS 95:5) (RLDS 92) (1835 95) (1844 96) YHWH is telling us He knows many will have “Amen to [their] priesthood or [their] authority” D&C (LDS 131:37) done to them using the “many are called but few are CHOSEN” theme from Matthew 22:14 because of their deeds as described in D&C (LDS 121:34-44) which sounds eerily close to 3 Nephi (LDS 16:10) (RLDS 7:34-35).

D&C (LDS 95:5) (RLDS 92) (1835 95) (1844 96) But behold, verily I say unto you, that there are many who have been ordained among you, whom I have called but FEW of them are CHOSEN.

D&C (LDS 121:34-44)
34 Behold, there are MANY CALLED, BUT FEW ARE CHOSEN. 3 Nephi (LDS 16:10) (RLDS 7:34-35) And thus commandeth the Father that I should say unto you: At that day when the GENTILES shall SIN AGAINST my GOSPEL, and shall REJECT the FULNESS of my GOSPEL, and shall be LIFTED UP IN THE PRIDE OF THEIR HEARTS above all nations, and above all the people of the whole earth, and shall be FILLED with all manner of LYINGS, and of DECEITS, and of MISCHIEFS, and all manner of HYPOCRISY, and MURDERS, and PRIESTCRAFTS, and WHOREDOMS, and of SECRET ABOMINATIONS; and if they shall do all those things, and shall reject the fulness of my gospel, behold, saith the Father, I will bring the fulness of my gospel from among them.
