What is the Eternal Round?

The Eternal Round is a phrase thrown around by people to give support to all kinds of ideas that contradict the scriptures. I hope and pray as we take the time to look at the 1828 Webster’s Dictionary and the scriptures that use this phrase it will be come clear in our minds what is being communicated with it.

To start off I want to look at the 1828 Webster’s Dictionary definitions of the words eternal and round. I have found reviewing meanings of words from the time that Joseph Smith translated the gold plates helps us know what is being said, because the definitions of the words we focus on change over time, and sometimes definitions are added or changed.

1828 Webster’s Dictionary, ETERNAL:
adjective:
1) WITHOUT BEGINNING OR END of existence.
2) WITHOUT BEGINNING of existence.
3) WITHOUT END of existence or duration; everlasting; endless; immortal.
4) PERPETUAL; ceaseless; continued without intermission.
5) UNCHANGEABLE; existing at all times without change; as ETERNAL TRUTH.
noun:
1) An appellation [name] of God [Elohim].

All the adjective definitions of eternal are related, but the one I find most important for this discussion is UNCHANGEABLE. The single noun definition of eternal is using a Hebrew way of thinking that you are named after what attributes and characteristics one has and YHWH Elohim is Eternal. I bring out an example of this Hebrew idea in Mosiah (LDS 5:9-15) (RLDS 3:12-21) near the end of the post.

Next we need to look at what the word round meant when the Book of Mormon was translated.

1828 Webster’s Dictionary, ROUND:
adjective:
2) FULL; LARGE; as a round sum or price.
3) FULL; SMOOTH; flowing; NOT DEFECTIVE or abrupt.
4) PLAIN; OPEN; CANDID [JUST]; FAIR. ROUND dealing is the HONOR of man’s NATURE [QUALITIES / ATTRIBUTES / LAW / PRINCIPLE].
6) FULL; plump; BOLD; POSITIVE;
noun:
2) ACTION or PERFORMANCE in a circle, or passing through a series of hands or things and COMING TO THE POINT OF THE BEGINNING; or the time of such action.
4) A rundle; the step of a ladder.
5) A WALK PERFORMED by a GUARD or an OFFICER round the rampart of a garrison, or among SENTINELS, to see that the sentinels are FAITHFULL and all things safe.
preposition:
1) ON EVERY SIDE OF [BORDERS];
2) IN ALL PARTS;
verb transitive:
2) To SURROUND; to ENCIRCLE; to ENCOMPASS [BORDERS].
5) To make FULL, smooth and flowing;
verb intransitive:
1) To grow or become round
2) To go round as a guard.

As I see it, most of the definitions of round from Webster’s 1828 Dictionary are descriptions of YHWH’s law / Torah. For example Psalms 19:7 where it states YHWH’s law / Torah is perfect which is another way of saying NOT DEFECTIVE. That the law / Torah is plain, see ALL Things You Should DO Chiasmi. YHWH’s law / Torah tells us how to be just and fair, how we are to act with others, and we are to proclaim truth boldly. It teaches us how we are to return to YHWH which where all of this began. YHWH’s ways / laws / Torah is to be on our borders and encompass all we do, see ALL Things You Should DO Chiasmi.

Psalm 19:7
A The law [HEBREW: Torah] of the Lord [YHWH] is perfect,
B converting the soul:
A the testimony [law / Torah] of the Lord [YHWH] is sure,
B making wise the simple.

Deuteronomy 27:8
A And thou shalt WRITE upon the STONES [TABLETS / HEARTS]
B all the WORDS of this LAW very PLAINLY.

Alma (LDS 5:43) (RLDS 3:71-72)
A 43 And now, my brethren, I would that ye should hear me,
B for I speak in the energy of my soul;
A for behold, I have spoken unto you PLAINLY that ye cannot err,
B or have spoken ACCORDING to the COMMANDMENTS OF GOD.

Proverbs 28:1
A The wicked flee when no man pursueth:
B but the righteous are BOLD as a lion.

3 Nephi (LDS 7:16) (RLDS 3:57) Therefore, being grieved for the hardness of their hearts and the blindness of their minds-went forth among them in that same year, and began to testify, BOLDLY, repentance and remission of sins through faith on the Lord [YHWH] Jesus [Yeshua] Christ [the Messiah].

Numbers 15:37-41
AA 37 And the Lord [YHWH] spake unto Moses, saying,
AB 38 Speak unto the children of Israel [wrestles with Elohim],
-BAA and bid them that they make them fringes [strings]
-BAB in the BORDERS of their garments [coverings]
-B-B throughout their generations,
-BAA and that they put upon the fringe [strings]
-BAB of the BORDERS a ribband [cord] of blue [sapphire tablets]:
–C 39 And it shall be unto you for a fringe [string],
—D that ye may look upon it [desire],
—-EAA and remember ALL the commandments [law / Torah] of the Lord [YHWH],
—-EAB and do them;
—-EBA and that ye seek not after your own heart and your own eyes [desires],
—-EBB after which ye use to go a whoring:
—D 40 That ye may remember [desire],
–C and DO ALL My commandments,
-BA and be holy [covered under YHWH’s garment] unto your God [Elohim].
-B-B 41 I am the Lord [YHWH] your God [Elohim],
-BA which brought you out of the land of Egypt [BORDER],
AA to be your God [Elohim]:
A-B I am the Lord [YHWH]
AA your God [Elohim].

Deuteronomy 11:18-21
AA 18 Therefore shall ye lay up [place] these My words IN your heart and IN your soul [to govern],
AB and bind them for a sign upon your hand [to do],
AC that they may be as frontlets [bands] between your eyes [to desire].
-BA 19 And ye shall teach them
-BB your children,
–CA speaking of them when thou sittest in thine house,
–CB and when thou walkest by the way,
—D when thou liest down,
—D and when thou risest up.
–CA 20 And thou shalt write them upon the door posts [BORDERS] of thine house,
–CB and upon thy gates [BORDERS]:
-BA 21 That your days may be multiplied,
-BB and the days of your children,
AA in the land which the Lord [YHWH]
AB sware unto your fathers to give them,
AC as the days of heaven upon the earth.

Joshua 1:6-9
AA 6 Be strong and of a good courage:
A-B for unto this people shalt thou divide for an inheritance the land,
A-B which I sware unto their fathers to give them.
AA 7 Only be thou strong and very courageous,
A-B that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law,
A–C which Moses my servant commanded thee:
A-B turn not from it to the right hand or to the left,
AA that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest.
-B 8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth;
–C but thou shalt meditate therein day and night,
—D that thou mayest OBSERVE TO DO ACCORDING TO ALL THAT IS WRITTEN THEREIN:
–C for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous,
-B and then thou shalt have good success.
AA 9 Have not I commanded thee?
A-B Be strong and of a good courage;
A-B be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed:
AA for the Lord [YHWH] thy God [Elohim] is with thee whithersoever thou goest.

2 Nephi (LDS 32:3) (RLDS 14:3-4)
–CA Wherefore, I said unto you, FEAST upon the WORDS [INSTRUCTIONS] OF CHRIST [THE MESSIAH];
–CB for behold, the WORD [INSTRUCTIONS] OF CHRIST will TELL YOU ALL THINGS WHAT YE SHOULD DO.

2 Nephi (LDS 32:5) (RLDS 14:6)
–C and receive the HOLY GHOST [law / Torah], IT will SHOW unto YOU ALL THINGS WHAT YE SHOULD DO.

The first passage of scripture we are going to look at is 1 Nephi (LDS 10:19) (RLDS 3:29-32).

1 Nephi (LDS 10:19) (RLDS 3:29-32) For he that diligently seeketh shall find; and the mysteries of God [Elohim] shall be unfolded unto them, by the power of the Holy Ghost [law / Torah], as well in these times as in times of old, and as well in times of old as in times to come; wherefore, the course of the Lord [YHWH] is one ETERNAL ROUND.

For me 1 Nephi (LDS 10:19) (RLDS 3:29-32) is clearly teaching that the ETERNAL ROUND is the unchanging way YHWH works with men. To make it even more obvious I have brought out a chiasmus in 1 Nephi (LDS 10:17-11:1) (RLDS 3:23-38) and we can see that ETERNAL ROUND is in stanza D along with YHWH is the same yesterday, today and forever which hopefully removes any doubt how ETERNAL ROUND is being used here.

1 Nephi (LDS 10:17-11:1) (RLDS 3:23-38)
AA 17 And it came to pass after I, Nephi, having heard all the words of my father,
A-B concerning the things which he saw in a vision,
A–C and also the things which he spake by the power of the Holy Ghost [law / Torah],
A–C which power he received by faith on the Son of God [Elohim]—
A-B and the Son of God [Elohim] was the Messiah who should come—
AA I, Nephi, was desirous also that I might see, and hear, and know of these things,
-B by the power of the Holy Ghost [law / Torah],
–CA which is the gift of God [Elohim]
–C-B unto all those who diligently seek Him,
–C-B as well in times of old as in the time that
–CA He should manifest Himself unto the children of men.
—D 18 For He is the same yesterday, today, and forever;
—-EA and the way is prepared for all men from the foundation of the world,
—-EB if it so be that they repent and come unto him.
—–F 19 For he that diligently seeketh shall find;
——G and the mysteries of God [Elohim] shall be unfolded unto them,
—–F by the power of the Holy Ghost [law / Torah],
—-EA as well in these times as in times of old,
—-EB and as well in times of old as in times to come;
—D wherefore, the course of the Lord [YHWH] is one ETERNAL ROUND.
–CA 20 Therefore remember, O man, for all thy doings thou shalt be brought into judgment.
–C-B 21 Wherefore, if ye have sought to do wickedly in the days of your probation,
–C–C then ye are found unclean before the judgment-seat of God [Elohim];
–C-B and no unclean thing can dwell with God [Elohim];
–CA wherefore, ye must be cast off forever.
-BA 22 And the Holy Ghost [law / Torah]
-BB giveth authority that I should speak these things,
-BC and deny them not.
AA 1 For it came to pass after I had desired to know the things that my father had seen,
A-B and believing that the Lord [YHWH] was able to make them known unto me,
A–C as I sat pondering in mine heart I was caught away in the Spirit of the Lord [YHWH],
A–C yea, into an exceedingly high mountain,
A-B which I never had before seen,
AA and upon which I never had before set my foot.

Going by chronological order, Alma (LDS 7:20) (RLDS 5:34-35) is the next passage to look at.

Alma (LDS 7:20) (RLDS 5:34-35) I perceive that it has been made known unto you, by the testimony of His word, that He cannot walk in crooked paths; neither doth He vary from that which He hath said; neither hath He a shadow of turning from the right to the left, or from that which is right to that which is wrong; therefore, His course is one ETERNAL ROUND.

Alma (LDS 7:20) (RLDS 5:34-35) is stating that ETERNAL ROUND is a phrase that means YHWH’s ways do not change by using the word therefore. If you would like more context, I present the chiasmus of Alma (LDS 7:16-21) (RLDS 5:28-37) to consider and how both B stanzas are about YHWH’s ways are straight and not crooked aka changing and how both A stanzas in the second B stanza are connecting ETERNAL ROUND with not being crooked.

1828 Webster’s Dictionary, THEREFORE:
1) For that; for that or this reason, referring to something previously stated.
2) Consequently.

Alma (LDS 7:16-21) (RLDS 5:28-37)
AA 16 And whosoever doeth this, and keepeth the commandments of God [Elohim] from thenceforth,
A-BA the same will remember that I say unto him,
A-BB yea, he will remember that I have said unto him,
A–C he shall have eternal life,
A—DA according to the testimony of the Holy Spirit,
A—DB which testifieth in me.
A—-E 17 And now my beloved brethren, do you believe these things?
A—-E Behold, I say unto you, yea, I know that ye believe them;
A—DA and the way that I know that ye believe them is by the manifestation of the Spirit
A—DB which is in me.
A–C And now because your faith is strong concerning that,
A-B yea, concerning the things which I have spoken, great is my joy.
AAA 18 For as I said unto you from the beginning,
AA-B that I had much desire that ye were not in the state of dilemma like your brethren,
AAA even so I have found that my desires have been gratified.
-BAA 19 For I perceive that ye
-BAB are in the paths of righteousness;
-B-BA I perceive that ye
-B-BB are in the path which leads to the kingdom of God [Elohim];
-BAA yea, I perceive that ye
-BAB are making His paths straight.
–C 20 I perceive that it has been made known unto you,
–C by the testimony of His word,
-BA that He cannot walk in crooked paths;
-B-B neither doth He vary from that which He hath said;
-B–C neither hath He a shadow of turning from the right to the left,
-B-B or from that which is right to that which is wrong;
-BA therefore, His course is one ETERNAL ROUND.
AAA 21 And He doth not dwell in unholy temples;
AAB neither can filthiness or anything which is unclean
AAC be received into the kingdom of God [Elohim];
ABA therefore I say unto you the time shall come,
ABB yea, and it shall be at the last day [judgement day],
ABC that he who is filthy shall remain in his filthiness.

The last passage from the Book of Mormon that talks about the ETERNAL ROUND is Alma (LDS 37:12) (RLDS 17:42).

Alma (LDS 37:12) (RLDS 17:42) And it may suffice if I only say they are preserved for a wise purpose, which purpose is known unto God [Elohim]; for He doth counsel in wisdom over all His works, and His paths are straight, and His course is one ETERNAL ROUND.

I trust you are starting to see a pattern that ETERNAL ROUND is being used consistently to state that YHWH’s paths are straight and not changing. If you didn’t know already you will see how bringing out the Hebrew poetry known as chiasmus helps us bring out more meaning from the Hebrew scriptures, as I bring another out in Alma (LDS 37:1-20) (RLDS 17:31-51) with ETERNAL ROUND being described in the B stanzas.

Alma (LDS 37:1-20) (RLDS 17:31-51)
A 01 And now, my son HELAMAN, I COMMAND you that ye take the RECORDS which have been ENTRUSTED with me;
A 02 And I also COMMAND you that ye keep a RECORD of this people, according as I have done,
-B upon the plates of Nephi, and keep all THESE THINGS SACRED which I have KEPT, even as I have KEPT them; for it is for a WISE PURPOSE that they are KEPT.
-B 03 And these PLATES OF BRASS, which contain these ENGRAVINGS, which have the RECORDS of the HOLY SCRIPTURES upon them, which have the GENEALOGY of our forefathers, even from the beginning—
–C 04 Behold, it has been prophesied by our fathers, that they [brass plates] should be KEPT and handed down from one generation to another, and be KEPT and PRESERVED by the hand of the Lord until THEY [BRASS PLATES] SHOULD GO FORTH UNTO EVERY NATION, KINDRED, TONGUE, AND PEOPLE, that they shall know of the MYSTERIES contained thereon.
—D 05 And now behold, if they [brass plates] are KEPT they [brass plates] must RETAIN THEIR [BRASS PLATES] BRIGHTNESS [LIGHT]; yea, and they [brass plates] will RETAIN THEIR [BRASS PLATES] BRIGHTNESS [LIGHT]; yea, and also shall all the PLATES which do contain that which is HOLY WRIT.
—-E1 06 Now ye may suppose that this is FOOLISHNESS in me;
—-E-2 but behold I say unto you, that by SMALL and SIMPLE things are GREAT THINGS BROUHT TO PASS;
—-E-2 and SMALL MEANS in many instances
—-E1 doth CONFOUND the WISE.
—–F 07 And the Lord [YHWH] God [Elohim] doth work by means to BRING ABOUT HIS GREAT AND ETERNAL PURPOSES;
—-E and by very SMALL MEANS the Lord doth CONFOUND the WISE and bringeth about the SALVATION OF MANY SOULS.
—D1 08 And now, it has hitherto been wisdom in God that these things [sacred] should be PRESERVED;
—D2 for behold, THEY [BRASS PLATES] have ENLARGED THE MEMORY of this people,
—D1 yea, and CONVINCED many of the ERROR of their WAYS,
—D2 and brought them to the KNOWLEDGE OF THEIR GOD [ELOHIM] unto the salvation of their souls.
—D1 09 Yea, I say unto you, were it not for these things [sacred] that these records [brass plates] do contain, which are on these plates [brass plates], Ammon and his brethren could not have CONVINCED so many thousands of the Lamanites of the INCORRECT TRADITION of their fathers;
—D2 yea, these records [brass plates] and their WORDS BROUGHT THEM UNTO REPENTANCE; that is, they brought them to the KNOWLEDGE of the LORD [YHWH] their GOD [ELOHIM], and to rejoice in Jesus Christ their Redeemer.
–C 10 And who knoweth but what THEY [BRASS PLATES] WILL BE THE MEANS OF BRINGING MANY THOUSANDS of them, yea, and ALSO MANY THOUSANDS of our STIFFNECKED BRETHREN, the Nephites, who are now HARDENING THEIR HEARTS in sin and iniquities, to the knowledge of their Redeemer? 11 Now these MYSTERIES are not yet fully made known unto me; therefore I shall forbear.
-B 12 And it may suffice if I only say they [brass plates] are PRESERVED FOR A WISE PURPOSE, which purpose is known unto God; for he doth counsel in wisdom over all his works, and his paths are straight, and His course is one ETERNAL ROUND.
A1 13 O remember, remember, my son HELAMAN, how STRICT are the COMMANDMENTS of God. And he said: If ye will keep my COMMANDMENTS ye shall prosper in the land—but if ye keep not his COMMANDMENTS ye shall be cut off from his presence. 14 And now remember, my son, that God has ENTRUSTED you with these things, which are SACRED, which he has KEPT SACRED,
A-2 and also which he will keep and PRESERVE for a WISE PURPOSE in him, that he may SHOW FORTH HIS POWER UNTO FUTURE GENERATIONS.
A–3A 15 And now behold, I tell you by the spirit of PROPHECY, that if ye TRANSGRESS the COMMANDMENTS of GOD [Elohim],
A–3B behold, THESE THINGS which are SACRED shall be taken away from you by the POWER OF GOD,
A–3C and ye shall be DELIVERED UP UNTO SATAN, that he may SIFT YOU AS CHAFF BEFORE THE WIND.
A–3A 16 But if ye KEEP the COMMANDMENTS of GOD [Elohim],
A–3B and do with THESE THINGS which are SACRED according to that which the Lord doth command you, (for you must appeal unto the Lord for all things whatsoever ye must do with them)
A–3C behold, NO POWER OF EARTH OR HELL can take them from you, for GOD IS POWERFUL to the FULFILLING OF ALL HIS WORDS.
A—4 17 For HE [YHWH] WILL FULFIL ALL HIS PROMISES WHICH HE SHALL MAKE UNTO YOU,
A—4 for HE [YHWH] HAS FULFILLED HIS PROMISES WHICH HE HAS MADE UNTO OUR FATHERS.
A–3 18 For he promised unto them that he would PRESERVE THESE THINGS [SACRED] for a wise purpose in him, that he might SHOW FORTH HIS POWER unto FUTURE GENERATIONS.
A-2a 19 And now behold, one purpose hath he fulfilled, even to the RESTORATION OF MANY THOUSANDS of the LAMANITES to the KNOWLEDGE OF THE TRUTH;
A-2-b and HE [YHWH] hath SHOWN FORTH HIS POWER IN THEM,
A-2-b and HE [YHWH] will also still SHOW FORTH HIS POWER IN THEM
A-2a unto FUTURE GENERATIONS; therefore they [brass plates] shall be PRESERVED.
A1 20 Therefore I command you, my son HELAMAN, that ye be DILIGENT in fulfilling all my words, and that ye be DILIGENT in keeping the COMMANDMENTS of God AS THEY ARE WRITTEN.

Alma (LDS 37:1-20) (RLDS 17:31-51) is a important chiasmus for me. In an unfinished post Brass Plates Prophecy Chiasmus I’m bringing out that it’s a prophecy in how the Brass Plates, which is similar to the Tanak / Old Testament, will be translated in the future and bring people to repentance. There is no real argument that the people in the Tanak / Old Testament didn’t look to the Torah, the first five books of the Tanak / Old Testament, to know of what to repent of. It would be silly to think that the Brass Plates would cause people to repent by looking anywhere other than to Torah to know what to repent of. Part of the post will have Book of Mormon verses supporting keeping the law / Torah after the resurrection. In fact the majority of the Scripture Study 2022-11-02 is based on passages from the Book of Mormon after Yeshua / Jesus is resurrected and visits and teaches the Lehites showing the law / Torah is still valid then and thus even now.

Those are all the passages in the Book of Mormon that have ETERNAL ROUND in them. The precept that YHWH’s ways / laws / Torah does not change is taught in other ways in the Book of Mormon also and 2 Nephi (LDS 29:7-9) (RLDS 12:55-63) is one of my favorite examples of such. In the second F stanza YHWH plainly that He speaks the same words unto all nations, and that proves that He is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. Showing that YHWH’s ways / laws / Torah is the same for all people all the time. If you are not convinced with the time aspect D&C (LDS 35:1) (RLDS 34) (1833 37) (1835 11) (1844 11) later in the post teaches it also along with 1 Nephi (LDS 10:17-11:1) (RLDS 3:23-38) which we looked at above.

2 Nephi (LDS 29:7-9) (RLDS 12:55-63)
A 7 Know ye not that there are more NATIONS than one?
-B Know ye not that I, the Lord [YHWH] your God [ELOHIM], have CREATED ALL MEN,
–C and that I REMEMBER those who are upon the ISLES OF THE SEA;
—DA and that I RULE in the heavens above and in the earth beneath;
—DB and I BRING FORTH my WORD unto the children of men,
—-E yea, even upon all the NATIONS of the earth?
—–F 8 Wherefore murmur ye, because that ye shall RECEIVE MORE of my WORD?
——G Know ye not that the TESTIMONY of TWO NATIONS is a WITNESS unto you that I am GOD [ELOHIM],
——G that I REMEMBER one NATION like unto ANOTHER?
—–F Wherefore, I SPEAK THE SAME WORDS UNTO ONE NATION LIKE UNTO ANOTHER.
—-EA And when the two NATIONS shall run TOGETHER
—-EB the testimony of the two NATIONS shall run TOGETHER also.
—DA 9 And I do this that I may PROVE unto many that I AM THE SAME YESTERDAY, TODAY, AND FOREVER;
—DB and that I SPEAK FORTH my WORDS according to mine own pleasure.
–C And because that I have spoken one word YE NEED NOT SUPPOSE THAT I CANNOT SPEAK ANOTHER;
-B for MY [YHWH ELOHIM] WORK is not yet finished;
A neither shall it be until the end of MAN, neither from that time henceforth and forever.

Joseph Smith taught the same thing:

How it may be asked was this known to be a bad angel? … by his contradicting a former revelation.
Joseph Smith, Times and Seasons 3, April 1, 1842, 747

D&C (LDS 3:1-3) (RLDS 2) (1833 2) (1835 30) (1844 30) is the first instance of ETERNAL ROUND in the commandments portion of the Doctrine and Covenants. ETERNAL ROUND is in the second B stanza. With that it is important to see what the first B stanza states. Both B stanzas teach that YHWH’s paths are straight and not crooked. The center of the chiasmus is the focal point and here shows that YHWH does not vary from which He hath said.

D&C (LDS 3:1-3) (RLDS 2) (1833 2) (1835 30) (1844 30)
AA 1 The works, and the designs, and the purposes of God [Elohim] cannot be frustrated,
AB neither can they come to naught.
-B 2 For God [Elohim] doth not walk in crooked paths,
–C neither doth He turn to the right hand nor to the left,
–C neither doth He vary from that which He hath said,
-BA therefore His paths are straight,
-BB and His course is one ETERNAL ROUND.
AA 3 Remember, remember that it is not the work of God [Elohim] that is frustrated,
AB but the work of men;

The other instance of ETERNAL ROUND in the commandments portion of the Doctrine and Covenants is D&C (LDS 35:1) (RLDS 34) (1833 37) (1835 11) (1844 11). Stanza C shows that the ETERNAL ROUND is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow in fact forever.

D&C (LDS 35:1) (RLDS 34) (1833 37) (1835 11) (1844 11)
AA Listen to the voice of the Lord [YHWH]
AB your God [Elohim],
BA even Alpha and Omega,
BB the Beginning and the End,
CA whose course is one ETERNAL ROUND,
CB the same today as yesterday, and forever.

Lectures on Faith 3:15 is the first instance of ETERNAL ROUND in the doctrine portion of the Doctrine and Covenant and states the ETERNAL ROUND does not vary.

Lectures on Faith 3:15
AA Thirdly, That He changes not,
AB neither is there variableness with Him;
-B but that He is the same from everlasting to everlasting,
-B being the same yesterday today and forever;
A and that His course is one ETERNAL ROUND, without variation.

Lectures on Faith 3:21 is the last instance of ETERNAL ROUND in the doctrine portion of the Doctrine and Covenants. The passage teaches that the ETERNAL ROUND is how YHWH’s ways do not change by bringing out how YHWH’s character does not change. Both stanzas AC are key here.

Lectures on Faith 3:21
AA But it is equally as necessary
AB that men should have the idea
AC that He is a God [Elohim] who changes not,
-BA in order to have faith in Him,
-BB as it is to have the idea that he is gracious and long suffering.
–CA For without the idea of UNCHANGEABLENESS in the character if the Deity,
–CB DOUBT would take the place of faith.
-BA But with the idea that he changes not,
-BB faith lays hold upon the excellencies in His character with unshaken confidence,
AA believing He is the
AB same yesterday, to-day and forever,
AC and that His course is one ETERNAL ROUND.

All of YHWH’s words are His law / Torah. And all His words are eternal. And we are to live by ALL of YHWH’s words not just more recent ones or just the ones we like.

Matthew (KJV 24:35) (JST 24:36)
A Although the days will come that heaven and earth shall pass away,
B yet My word shall not pass away;
C but all shall be fulfilled [taught].

2 Nephi (LDS 9:16) (RLDS 6:38-40)
AA And assuredly, as the Lord [YHWH] liveth,
A-B for the Lord [YHWH] God [Elohim] hath spoken it,
A-B and it is His ETERNAL WORD,
AA which cannot pass away,
-BA that they who are righteous
-BB shall be righteous still,
-BA and they who are filthy
-BB shall be filthy still;
AA wherefore, they who are filthy are the devil and his angels;
A-B and they shall go away into everlasting fire,
A–C prepared for them;
A-B and their torment is as a lake of fire and brimstone,
AA whose flame ascendeth up forever and ever and has no end.

Deuteronomy 8:3
AA And he humbled thee,
AB and suffered thee to hunger,
AC and fed thee with manna,
-B which thou knewest not,
-B neither did thy fathers know;
AA that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only,
AB but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the Lord [YHWH] doth man live.

Matthew 4:4
A But He answered and said, It is written,
B Man shall not live by bread alone,
C but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God [Elohim].

All the seven passages above connect the eternal round to YHWH’s course. What is a course? Is it a meal? It should be as we are to LIVE [GUIDE OUR ACTIONS] by every word that comes out of the mouth of YHWH. Which is not just the recent ones but also the ancient ones. If that was not the case you shouldn’t even use that phrase because it’s an ancient one from Torah in Deuteronomy 8:3 that Yeshua / Jesus reiterated in Matthew 4:4. But seriously, when we look at what course means in the 1828 Webster’s Dictionary in those passages it is about how one is to conduct oneself by the unchanging instructions / commandments / law / Torah that YHWH gives us.

Deuteronomy 8:3
AA And He humbled thee,
AB and suffered thee to hunger,
AC and fed thee with manna,
-B which thou knewest not,
-B neither did thy fathers know;
AA that He might make thee know that
AB man doth not live by bread only,
AC but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the Lord [YHWH] doth man live.

A But he answered and said, It is written,
B Man shall not live by bread alone,
C but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

YHWH’s holy ways / law / Torah are teaching us the character of Yeshua / Jesus to us such that we can emulate [follow / imitate] Him in ALL Things We DO. When we have this holy behavior written on our hearts we will be living by His Holy Spirit. And we will recognize Him because we will be like Him (see 1 John 3:2). Please take note in Mosiah (LDS 5:9-15) (RLDS 3:12-21) how I bring out one definition of name from 1828 Webster’s Dictionary is character and how called can mean designated in Webster’s 1828 Dictionary.

JST 1 John 3:1-10
AAA 1 Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us,
AAB that we should be called the sons of God [Elohim]:
ABA therefore the world knoweth us not,
ABB because it knew Him not.
-BA 2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God [Elohim],
-B-B and it doth not yet appear what we shall be:
-B-B but we know that, when He shall appear,
-BAA we shall be like Him;
-BAB for we shall see him as He is.
–CA 3 And every man that hath this hope in him
–CB purifieth himself [by keeping the law / Torah],
–CC even as He [Yeshua / Jesus] is pure.
—DA 4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law:
—DB for sin is the transgression of the law.
—-E 5 And ye know that He was manifested to take away our sins;
—–F and in Him is no sin.
—-E 6 Whosoever abideth in Him sinneth not;
—DA whosoever CONTINUETH IN SIN hath not seen Him,
—DB neither known Him.
–CA 7 Little children, let no man deceive you:
–CB he that doeth righteousness [law / Torah] is righteous,
–CC even as He [Yeshua / Jesus] is righteous.
-BAA 8 He that CONTINUETH IN SIN is of the devil;
-BAB for the devil sinneth from the beginning.
-BBA For this purpose the Son of God [Elohim] was manifested,
-BBB that He might destroy the works of the devil.
AA 9 Whosoever is born of God [Elohim] doth not CONTINUE IN SIN;
A-B for the Spirit of God [Elohim] remaineth in him;
A–C and he cannot CONTINUE IN SIN,
A—D because he is born of God [Elohim],
A—-E having received that holy Spirit of promise.
A—D 10 In this the children of God [Elohim] are manifest,
A–C and the children of the devil:
A-B whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God [Elohim],
AA neither he that loveth not his brother.

A lot of Christians will say “what would Jesus do”. I believe a better saying is “what DID Jesus do”. If we don’t know what Jesus actually did and the reasons behind why He did them, we won’t have any clue what Jesus would do in this or that situation. Nor do we really know Jesus or understand Him or His ways. For if we really know Jesus and understand His ways, we would conduct ourselves like He did while He was tabernacled here on earth and do the things He did. I believe that includes celebrating Feastival of Lights, see John 10:22-23, and the appointed times, moadim (H4150), commanded in Leviticus 23. I promise you will gain deeper insights from the scriptures, and thus the gospel, as you study about the Feasts of God for all mankind found in Leviticus 23 and celebrate them.
On the Morrow / Morning

Mosiah (LDS 5:9-15) (RLDS 3:12-21)
AAA 9 And it shall come to pass that whosoever doeth this
AAB shall be found at the right hand [designation] of God [Elohim],
A-B for he shall know the name [character] by which he is called [designated];
AA for he shall be called [designated] by the name [character] of Christ [the Anointed One].
-BAA 10 And now it shall come to pass,
-BAB that whosoever shall not take upon him the name [character] of Christ [the Anointed One]
-BB must be called [designated] by some other name [character];
-BC therefore, he findeth himself on the left hand [designation] of God [Elohim].
AAA 11 And I would that ye should remember also,
AAB that this is the name [character]
AAC that I said I should give unto you that never should be blotted out [erased / forgotten],
ABA except it be through transgression;
ABB therefore, take heed that ye do not transgress,
ABC that the name [character] be not blotted out [erased / forgotten] of your hearts.
-BAA 12 I say unto you, I would that ye should remember to retain the name [character]
-BAB written always in your hearts,
-B-B that ye are not found on the left hand of God [Elohim],
-B–C but that ye hear and know the voice [choice]
-B-B by which ye shall be called [designated],
-BAA and also, the name [character]
-BAB by which He shall call [designate] you.
–C 13 For how knoweth a man the master whom he has not served,
—D and who is a stranger unto him,
–C and is far from the thoughts and intents of his heart?
-BA 14 And again, doth a man take an ass which belongeth to his neighbor, and keep him?
-B-B I say unto you, Nay; he will not even suffer that he shall feed among his flocks,
-B–C but will drive him away,
-B–C and cast him out.
-B-B I say unto you, that even so shall it be among you
-BA if ye know not the name [character] by which ye are called [designated].
AA 15 Therefore, I would that ye should be steadfast and immovable,
A-B always abounding in good works,
A–CA that Christ [the Messiah],
A–CB the Lord [YHWH] God [Elohim] Omnipotent,
A–CC may seal you His,
A—D that you may be brought to heaven,
A–CA that ye may have everlasting salvation
A–CB and eternal life,
A-BA through the wisdom,
A-B-B and power,
A-B-B and justice,
A-BA and mercy of
AAA Him who created all things,
AAB in heaven and in earth,
AAC who is God [Elohim] above all. Amen.

Scriptures teach when we sin / transgress the law / Torah we will forget the ways of YHWH and will be rejected of Him unless we repent, which is important to keep in mind for Mosiah (LDS 5:11) (RLDS 3:14-15) in both ABC stanzas.

Hosea 4:6
AA My people are destroyed for LACK of KNOWLEDGE:
AB because thou hast REJECTED KNOWLEDGE,
-BA I will also REJECT THEE [YOU],
-BB that thou shalt be no priest to me:
AA seeing thou hast FORGOTTEN the LAW [HEBREW: TORAH] of thy GOD [ELOHIM],
AB I will also FORGET thy children [followers].

Alma (LDS 12:10-11) (RLDS 9:17-21)
A 10 And therefore, he that will harden his heart,
B the same receiveth the lesser portion of the word;
A and he that will not harden his heart,
B to him is given the greater portion of the word,
C until it is given unto him to know the mysteries of God [Elohim] until he know them in full.
A 11 And they that will harden their hearts,
B to them is given the lesser portion of the word
C until they know nothing concerning His mysteries;
A and then they are taken captive by the devil,
B and led by his will down to destruction.
C Now this is what is meant by the chains of hell.

Another thing to keep in mind with Mosiah (LDS 5:11-12) (RLDS 3:15-16) is that we are to have YHWH’s ways / law / Torah written on our hearts. Please see how the Holy Spirit [Behavior] / Ghost is YHWH’s law / Torah in All Things You Should DO Chiasmi.

Helaman (LDS 5:45) (RLDS 2:111)
A And behold, the Holy Spirit [law / Torah] of God did come down from heaven,
-B and did enter [written] into their hearts,
-B and they were filled as if with fire,
A and they could speak forth marvelous words [tongue of angels].

3 Nephi (LDS 9:20) (RLDS 4:49-50)
–CAA And ye shall offer for a sacrifice unto me a broken heart and a contrite spirit.
–CAB And whoso cometh unto me with a broken heart and a contrite spirit,
–CBA him will I baptize with fire and with the Holy Ghost,
–CB-B even as the Lamanites,
–CB-B because of their faith in me at the time of their conversion,
–CBA were baptized with fire and with the Holy Ghost, and they knew it not.

Deuteronomy 11:18
A Therefore shall ye lay up these MY [YHWH] WORDS IN your HEART [HOW TO GOVERN]
-B and IN your SOUL,
-B and BIND them for a sign upon your HAND [WHAT YOU DO],
A that they may be as frontlets BETWEEN your EYES [WHAT YOU DESIRE].

Jeremiah 31:33
A But this shall be the COVENANT that I will make with the house of Israel;
-B After those days, saith the Lord [YHWH], I will put MY LAW [Torah] in their INWARD PARTS,
-B and WRITE IT in their HEARTS;
A and I WILL BE their GOD [ELOHIM], and they SHALL BE MY PEOPLE.

In the center of Mosiah (LDS 5:9-15) (RLDS 3:12-21) we are told:

Mosiah (LDS 5:13) (RLDS 3:17)
–C 13 For how knoweth a man the master whom he has not served,
—D and who is a stranger unto him,
–C and is far from the thoughts and intents of his heart?

When you sin you serve Satan, when you are acting according to the law / Torah you serve YHWH, and you can act according to YHWH’s Torah because His ways are written on your heart, and you ponder them day in and day out. Which in turn is thinking about Yeshua / Jesus because His laws / Torah teach us about His character and thus how to be like Him.

-BAB of the borders a ribband [cord] of blue [sapphire tablets / law / Torah]:
–C 39 And it shall be unto you for a fringe [string],
—D that ye may look upon it [desire],
—-EAA and remember ALL the commandments [law / Torah] of the Lord [YHWH],
—-EAB and do them;
—-EBA and that ye seek not after your own heart and your own eyes [desires],
—-EBB after which ye use to go a whoring:

-B 8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth;
–C but thou shalt meditate therein day and night,
—D that thou mayest observe to DO
—D ACCORDING TO ALL THAT IS WRITTEN THEREIN:
–C for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous,
-B and then thou shalt have good success.
AA 9 Have not I commanded thee?
A-B Be strong and of a good courage;
A-B be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed:
AA for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.

B and meditate on thee in the night watches.
