ALL Things You Should DO Chiasmi

2 Nephi (LDS 32:1-8) (RLDS 14:1-11)
A Ponder in your hearts
B Doctrine of the Messiah
C Instructions of the Messiah will TELL YOU ALL THINGS WHAT YOU SHOULD DO.
D Understanding happens when you start doing
E Come into the law, or go to darkness
2 Nephi (LDS 32:8-9) (RLDS 14:11-12)
A The Spirit teaches men to pray
B We must pray
C Satan teaches we must not pray

2 Nephi (LDS 32:1-9) (RLDS 14:1-12)
AA 1 And now, behold, my beloved brethren, I suppose that ye ponder somewhat in your hearts
A-B concerning that which ye should DO after ye have entered [gate] in by the way [path / law / Torah].
AA But, behold, why do ye ponder these things in your hearts?
-BA 2 Do ye not REMEMBER that I said unto you that after ye had received the Holy Ghost [law / Torah]
-B-BA ye could speak with the tongue of angels [call repentance]?
-B-BB And now, how could ye speak with the tongue of angels [call repentance]
-B–C save it were by the Holy Ghost [law / Torah]?
-B-B 3 Angels speak by the power of the Holy Ghost [law / Torah];
-BA wherefore, they speak the words [instructions] of Christ [the Messiah].
–CA Wherefore, I said unto you, FEAST upon the WORDS [INSTRUCTIONS] OF CHRIST [THE MESSIAH];
–CB for behold, the WORD [INSTRUCTIONS] OF CHRIST will TELL YOU ALL THINGS WHAT YE SHOULD DO.
—DA 4 Wherefore, now after I have spoken these words,
—DB if ye cannot understand them it will be because ye ask not, neither do ye knock;
—-E wherefore, ye are not brought into the light [law / Torah],
—-E but must perish in the dark [because continuing to sin].
—D 5 For behold, again I say unto you that if ye will enter [gate] in by the way [path / law / Torah],
–C and receive the HOLY GHOST [law / Torah], IT will SHOW unto YOU ALL THINGS WHAT YE SHOULD DO.
-BA 6 Behold, this is the doctrine of Christ [the Messiah],
-BB and there will be no more doctrine given until after He shall manifest Himself unto you in the flesh [mortality].
-BC And when He shall manifest himself unto you in the flesh [mortality],
-BA the things which He shall say unto you shall ye observe to do.
-BBA 7 And now I, Nephi, CANNOT SAY MORE;
-BB-B the Spirit stoppeth mine utterance,
-BBA and I am left to mourn BECAUSE of the unbelief, and the wickedness, and the ignorance, and the stiffneckedness of men;
-BCAA for they will not search KNOWLEDGE [SCRIPTURES],
-BCAB nor understand great KNOWLEDGE [LAW / TORAH],
-BCBA when it is given unto them in PLAINNESS [COMMANDMENTS],
-BCBB even as PLAIN [LAW / TORAH] as [the] word can be.
AA 8 And now, my beloved brethren, I perceive that ye ponder still in your hearts;
AB and it grieveth me that I must speak concerning this thing.

A For if ye would hearken unto the Spirit which teacheth a man to pray,
-B ye would know that ye must pray;
–C for the evil spirit teacheth not a man to pray,
–C but teacheth him that he must not pray.
-B 9 But behold, I say unto you that ye must pray always, and not faint;
AA that ye must not perform any thing unto the Lord [YHWH] save in the first place ye shall pray unto the Father in the name [authority] of Christ [the Messiah],
AB that He will consecrate thy performance unto thee,
AC that thy performance may be for the welfare of thy soul.

Before I do anything else I feel compelled to bring out what is going on in the C stanzas. First we are told that the words of YHWH will tell us all things we should do, then we are told it’s the Holy Ghost that will do that. What gives? (Please, please, please, take note that when 2 Nephi (LDS 32:5) (RLDS 14:6) references the Holy Ghost the passage uses IT not HE.)

2 Nephi (LDS 32:3) (RLDS 14:3-4)
–CA Wherefore, I said unto you, FEAST upon the WORDS [INSTRUCTIONS] OF CHRIST [THE MESSIAH];
–CB for behold, the WORD [INSTRUCTIONS] OF CHRIST will TELL YOU ALL THINGS WHAT YE SHOULD DO.

2 Nephi (LDS 32:5) (RLDS 14:6)
–C and receive the HOLY GHOST [law / Torah], IT will SHOW unto YOU ALL THINGS WHAT YE SHOULD DO.

In my emphasis that the Holy Spirit / Ghost is an IT and not a HE here the list of scriptures from the Book of Mormon teaching this from my The Holy Spirit and the Holy Ghost are the Same post.

IT
2 Nephi (LDS 33:2) (RLDS 15:2) But behold, there are many that HARDEN their HEARTS against the HOLY SPIRIT, that IT hath no place in them; wherefore, they cast many things away which are written and esteem them as things of naught.
***
2 Nephi (LDS 31:8-9) (RLDS 13:10-11)
8 Wherefore, after he was baptized with water the HOLY GHOST DESCENDED upon him in the form of a DOVE. 9 And again, IT showeth unto the children of men the straitness of the path, and the narrowness of the gate, by which they should enter, he [Jesus] having set the example before them.
2 Nephi (LDS 32:5) (RLDS 14:6) For behold, again I say unto you that if ye will enter in by the way, and RECEIVE the HOLY GHOST, IT will SHOW unto you all things what ye SHOULD DO.
Alma (LDS 34:38) (RLDS 16:237-238) That ye CONTEND no more against the HOLY GHOST, but that ye RECEIVE IT, and take upon you the name of Christ; that ye humble yourselves even to the dust, and worship God, in whatsoever place ye may be in, in spirit and in truth; and that ye live in thanksgiving daily, for the many mercies and blessings which he doth bestow upon you.
Alma (LDS 39:6) (RLDS 19:8-9) For behold, if ye DENY the HOLY GHOST when IT once has had place in you, and ye know that ye deny IT, behold, this is a sin which is unpardonable; yea, and whosoever murdereth against the light and knowledge of God, it is not easy for him to obtain forgiveness; yea, I say unto you, my son, that it is not easy for him to obtain a forgiveness.
Moroni (LDS 2:2) (RLDS 2:2) And he called them by name, saying: Ye shall call on the Father in my name, in mighty prayer; and after ye have done this ye shall have power that to him upon whom ye shall lay your hands, ye shall GIVE the HOLY GHOST; and in my name shall ye give IT, for thus do mine apostles.
The Holy Spirit and The Holy Ghost are the Same

So are we to listen to the words of the Messiah or the Holy Spirit / Ghost to know all things we should do? Knowing that the Holy Spirit / Ghost is simply the mind of YHWH / Yeshua / Jesus there is no problem as these are simply different phrases for the same concept. Lectures on Faith 5 brings this out.

Lectures on Faith 5:2 … possessing the same MIND with the Father, WHICH MIND IS THE HOLY SPIRIT [GHOST], … The Father and the Son possessing the same MIND, the same WISDOM, glory, power and fulness: Filling all in all—the Son being filled with the fulness of the MIND, glory and power, or, in other words, the [HOLY] SPIRIT, glory and power of the Father—possessing all KNOWLEDGE and glory, and the same kingdom: … being filled with the fulness of the MIND of the Father, or, IN OTHER WORDS, the [HOLY] SPIRIT of the Father: which [HOLY] SPIRIT is SHED FORTH UPON ALL WHO BELIEVE ON HIS NAME [AUTHORITY] AND KEEP HIS COMMANDMENTS: and all those who KEEP His COMMANDMENTS [LAW / TORAH] shall grow up from GRACE TO GRACE [SANCTIFICATION], and BECOME HEIRS OF THE HEAVENLY KINGDOM, and joint heirs with Jesus [Yeshua] Christ [the Messiah]; possessing the same MIND, being TRANSFORMED into the SAME IMAGE OR LIKENESS, even the EXPRESS IMAGE of Him who fills all in all: being filled with the fulness of His glory, and become one in Him, even as the Father, Son and HOLY SPIRIT [GHOST] are one.

Lectures on Faith 5
Q 13: Do the Father and the Son possess the same MIND?
A 13: They do. John 5:30: I [Christ] can of my own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge, and my judgment is just; because I seek not my own will, but the will of the Father who sent me. John 6:38: For I [Christ] came down from heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of him that sent me. John 10:30: I [Christ] and my Father are one.

Lectures on Faith 5
Q 14: What is this MIND?
A 14: The HOLY SPIRIT [GHOST]. John 15:26: But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceeds from the Father, he shall testify of me. [Christ] Galatians 4:6: And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts.

You will also see that Lectures on Faith 5 also quotes Philippians 2:5 in regards to the Holy Spirit / Ghost being the MIND of YHWH / Yeshua / Jesus. Looking in Philippians 2:4 we see it’s teaching us how to love others, which is what “ALL the LAW [TORAH] and the prophets” Matthew 22:36-40 is about.

Philippians 2:4-5
A 4 Look not every man on his own things,
B but every man also on the things of others.
A 5 Let this MIND be IN you,
B which was also IN Christ [the Messiah] Jesus [Yeshua]:

Matthew 22:36-40
A 36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law?
-B 37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
–C 38 This is the first and great commandment.
-B 39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
A 40 On these two commandments HANG ALL the LAW [TORAH] and the PROPHETS.

Mosiah (LDS 2:4) (RLDS 1:31-32)
A And also that they might GIVE THANKS to the Lord [YHWH] their God [Elohim],
-BA who had brought them out of the land of Jerusalem,
-BB and who had DELIVERED them out of the hands of their enemies,
–C and had appointed just men to be their teachers,
—D and also a just man to be their king,
–C who had established peace in the land of Zarahemla,
-B and who had taught them to KEEP the COMMANDMENTS [LAW / TORAH] of GOD [ELOHIM],
A THAT they might REJOICE and be FILLED [WRITTEN ON THE HEARTS] with LOVE TOWARDS GOD [ELOHIM] and all MEN[KIND].

Mosiah (LDS 4:15) (RLDS 2:27)
A But ye will teach them to walk in the ways of truth and soberness [law / Torah];
B ye will TEACH them to LOVE ONE ANOTHER, and to serve one another.

Soberness has to do with being free from our heated passions.

1828 Webster’s Dictionary, SOBERNESS:
3) Freedom from heat and passion; calmness; coolness.

Soberness reminds me of Alma (LDS 38:12) (RLDS 18:14-15) and the imagery, tzitzit / tassels, being used there points us to YHWH’s law / Torah. Boldness in Alma (LDS 38:12) (RLDS 18:14-15) relates to PLAINLY and PLAINNESS which is talked about later which keeps us from being idle. A bridle is a string / cord to guide us and to keep us in restraint, just as tzitzit / tassels are strings pointing us to YHWH’s law / Torah to keep us in restraint in YHWH’s way of doing all things. The blue cord points to the law written on the tablets of blue sapphire. It also points to Yeshua’s / Jesus’ blood because anciently an ingredient to make blue die is blood. Keep in mind the purpose of this bridling is so that we will be filled with love.

Alma (LDS 38:12) (RLDS 18:14-15)
A Use boldness, but not overbearance;
-B and also see that ye BRIDLE all your PASSIONS,
-B that ye may be FILLED with LOVE;
A see that ye refrain from idleness.

1828 Webster’s Dictionary, BRIDLE:
Noun:
1) The instrument with which a horse is governed and restrained by a rider; consisting of a head-stall, a bit, and reins, with other appendages, according to its particular form and uses.
2) A restraint; a curb; a check.
3) A short piece of cable well served, attached to a swivel on a chain, laid in a harbor, and the upper end drawn into a ship and secured to the bits. The use is to enable a ship, when moored, to veer with the wind and tide.
verb transitive:
1) To restrain, guide or govern; to check, curb or control; as, to bridle the passions; ‘to bridle a muse.

Numbers 15:37-41
37 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, 38 Speak unto the children of Israel, and bid them that they make them FRINGES in the BORDERS of their GARMENTS THROUGHOUT their GENERATIONS, and that they put upon the fringe of the borders a ribband of BLUE: 39 And it shall be unto you for a fringe, that ye may LOOK UPON IT, and REMEMBER ALL THE COMMANDMENTS of the LORD, and DO THEM; and that ye seek NOT AFTER YOUR OWN HEART and your OWN EYES, after which ye use to go a whoring: 40 That ye may remember, and do all my commandments, and be holy unto your God. 41 I am the Lord your God, which brought you out of the land of Egypt, to be your God: I am the Lord your God.

Deuteronomy 22:12
A Thou shalt make thee fringes upon the four quarters of thy vesture,
B wherewith thou coverest thyself.

YHWH’s law / Torah is about love of YHWH and loving others including ourselves. The law / Torah tells us how we are to act / behave in all situations, and thus telling us all things we should do.

A lot of Christians will say “what would Jesus do”. I believe a better saying is “what DID Jesus do”. If we don’t know what Jesus actually did and the reasons behind why He did them, we won’t have any clue what Jesus would do in this or that situation. Nor do we really know Jesus or understand Him or His ways. For if we really know Jesus and understand His ways, we would conduct ourselves like He did while He was tabernacled here on earth and do the things He did. I believe that includes celebrating Festival of Lights, see John 10:22-23, and the appointed times, moadim (H4150), commanded in Leviticus 23. I promise you will gain deeper insights from the scriptures, and thus the gospel, as you study about the Feasts of God for all mankind found in Leviticus 23 and celebrate them.
On the Morrow / Morning

Joshua 1:6-9
AA 6 Be strong and of a good courage:
A-B for unto this people shalt thou divide for an inheritance the land,
A-B which I sware unto their fathers to give them.
AA 7 Only be thou strong and very courageous,
A-B that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law,
A–C which Moses my servant commanded thee:
A-B turn not from it to the right hand or to the left,
AA that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest.
-B 8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth;
–C but thou shalt meditate therein day and night,
—D that thou mayest OBSERVE TO DO ACCORDING TO ALL THAT IS WRITTEN THEREIN:
–C for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous,
-B and then thou shalt have good success.
AA 9 Have not I commanded thee?
A-B Be strong and of a good courage;
A-B be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed:
AA for the Lord [YHWH] thy God [Elohim] is with thee whithersoever thou goest.

Keep in mind that “that thou mayest OBSERVE TO DO ACCORDING TO ALL THAT IS WRITTEN THEREIN:” from Joshua 1:6-9 is the same thing as “the WORD [INSTRUCTION] OF CHRIST will TELL YOU ALL THINGS WHAT YE SHOULD DO” from 2 Nephi (LDS 32:3) (RLDS 14:3-4) and “the HOLY GHOST [law / Torah], IT will SHOW unto YOU ALL THINGS WHAT YE SHOULD DO” from 2 Nephi (LDS 32:5) (RLDS 14:6).

Now that we know the purpose of YHWH’s law / Torah is to teach us how YHWH wants us to love Him and others, lets look at what the word mind meant in Joseph Smith’s day when Lectures on Faith 5 was written.

1828 Webster’s Dictionary, MIND:
noun [Latin reminiscor; Latin mens; Gr. memory, mention, to remember, mind ardor of mind vehemence; anger. mind signifies properly intention, a reaching or inclining forward to an object, from the primary sense of extending, stretching or inclining, or advancing eagerly, pushing or setting forward, whence the Greek sense of the word, in analogy with the Teutonic mod, moed, muth, mind courage, spirit, mettle. So Latin animus, animosus.]
1) Intention; purpose; design.
2) Inclination; will; desire; a sense much used, but expressing less than settled purpose; as in the common phrases, ‘I wish to know your mind; ‘ ‘let me know your mind; ‘ ‘he had a mind to go; ‘ ‘he has a partner to his mind ‘
3) Opinion; as, to express one’s mind We are of one mind
4) Memory; remembrance; as, to put one in mind; to call to mind; the fact is out of my mind; time out of mind From the operations of the intellect in man, this word came to signify.
5) The intellectual or intelligent power in man; the understanding; the power that conceives, judges or reasons.
6) The heart or seat of affection.
7) The will and affection; as readiness of mind Acts 17:11.
8) The implanted principle of grace. Romans 7:23.
verb transitive:
1) To attend to; to fix the thoughts on; to regard with attention.
not high things: Romans 12:2.
1) To attend to or regard with submission; to obey. His father told him to desist, but he would not mind him.
2) To put in mind; to remind.
3) To intend; to mean.
verb intransitive:
1) To be inclined or disposed to incline.

I don’t know about you, but I see connections to YHWH’s Holy Spirit [Ghost] in every definition of the word mind. Including the one about intelligence. Some of the following quote from Joseph Smith may sound like favoritism, it’s not, it’s simply because the seed of Abraham the Jews are familiar with the law / Torah and thus effects them quicker and he is using imagery about the Gentiles being adopted into Israel. In the beginning of this statement Joseph Smith states that the Holy Spirit “has NO OTHER EFFECT than PURE INTELLIGENCE” meaning the Holy Spirit does not give you emotions or feelings, our reactions to IT does that. The Spirit constrained Nephi in 1 Nephi (LDS 4:10) (RLDS 1:110-111) to enact the punishment upon Laban for the sins he committed, Nephi did not feel all warm and fuzzy at this direction from the Spirit but he shrunk and tried to get out of it.

This first Comforter or Holy Ghost has NO OTHER EFFECT than PURE INTELLIGENCE. IT is more powerful in expanding the mind, enlightening the understanding, and storing the intellect with present knowledge, of a man who is of the literal seed of Abraham, than one that is a Gentile though IT may not have half as much visual effect upon his body; for as the Holy Ghost falls upon one of the literal seed of Abraham, IT is calm and serene; and his whole soul and body are only exercised by the pure spirit of intelligence; while the effect of the Holy Ghost upon a Gentile, is to purge out the old blood, and make him actually of the seed of Abraham. That man that has none of the blood of Abraham (naturally) must have new creation by the Holy Ghost.
Joseph Smith, Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, page 149

Within Lectures on Faith 5:2 Joseph Smith uses the words MIND and SPIRIT interchangeably because in addition to spirit dealing with our behavior it’s dealing with out state of mind. Three of the four definitions listed below have mind in the definition. In 2 Nephi (LDS 9:39) (RLDS 6:73-74) we have the phrase spiritually-minded connecting the two together with an end results of eternal life which is a gift from Yeshua / Jesus when we have had the baptism of sanctification [Holy Spirit].

2 Nephi (LDS 9:39) (RLDS 6:73-74)
A O, my beloved brethren, remember the awfulness in transgressing against that Holy God [Elohim],
B and also the awfulness of yielding to the enticings of that cunning one.
A Remember, to be carnally-minded is death,
B and to be spiritually-minded is life eternal.

1828 Webster’s Dictionary, SPIRIT:
4) Temper; disposition of mind, habitual or temporary; as a man of a generous spirit or of a revengeful spirit; the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit Let us go to the house of God in the spirit of prayer.
8) Turn of mind; temper; occasions; state of the mind. A perfect judge will read each work of wit, with the same spirit that its author writ.
14) Excitement of mind; animation; cheerfulness; usually in the plural. We found our friend in very good spirits. He has a great flow of spirits. -To sing thy praise, would heaven my breath prolong, Infusing spirits worthy such a song.
20) The renewed nature of man. Matthew 26:41. Galatians 5:5.

In my desire to help people to better understand this insightful chiasmus from Nephi son of [bar] Lehi, I am going to expand some of the imagery contained therein.

The gate we are to enter is repentance, which is returning to the law / Torah, baptism of water. We can know that our repentance and covenant to keep all of YHWH’s commandments is accepted when Yeshua / Jesus when forgives of us our sins with the baptism of fire [justification]. First I’m going to quote from the discourse that Nephi bar Lehi gave us just before this chiasmus.

2 Nephi (LDS 31:9) (RLDS 13:11)
A And again, it SHOWETH unto the children of men the STRAITNESS of the PATH,
-B and the NARROWNESS of the GATE,
-B by which they should ENTER,
A He having set the EXAMPLE before them.

2 Nephi (LDS 31:17-18) (RLDS 13:22-26)
A 17 Wherefore, do the THINGS which I have told you I have seen that your Lord [YHWH] and your REDEEMER should do;
-B for, for this CAUSE have they been shown unto me,
–C that ye might know the GATE by which ye should ENTER.
—D For the GATE by which ye should ENTER is repentance and BAPTISM BY WATER;
—-E and then cometh a REMISSION of your SINS BY FIRE and BY the HOLY GHOST [LAW / TORAH].
—–F 18 And then are ye in this STRAIT and NARROW PATH [LAW / TORAH] which leads to eternal life;
—-E yea, ye have entered in by the GATE;
—D ye have done according to the COMMANDMENTS [REPENTANCE] of the Father and the Son;
–C and ye have received the Holy Ghost [law / Torah], which witnesses of the Father and the Son,
-B unto the FULFILLING OF THE PROMISE which He [singular / modalism] hath made,
A that if ye ENTERED in by the way ye should RECEIVE.

Scriptures show that it’s the Father, who is also the Son (see Mosiah (LDS 15:1-5) (RLDS 8:28-32), Lectures on Faith 5), is the keeper of the gate.

2 Nephi (LDS 31:12) (RLDS 13:15)
A And also, the voice of the Son came unto me, saying: he that is BAPTIZED in My name [authority],
-B to him will the FATHER give the HOLY GHOST [LAW / TORAH],
-B like unto Me;
A wherefore, follow Me, and do the THINGS WHICH YE HAVE SEEN ME DO.

2 Nephi (LDS 9:41) (RLDS 6:79-82)
A O then, my beloved brethren, come unto the Lord [YHWH], the Holy One.
-BA Remember that His paths are righteous [law / Torah].
-BB Behold, the way for man is narrow,
-BC but it lieth in a straight course before [unto] Him,
–C and the KEEPER of the GATE [REPENTANCE AND BAPTISM] is the HOLY ONE OF ISRAEL [YESHUA];
–C and He EMPLOYETH NO SERVANT there;
-BA and there is none other way save it be by the GATE [REPENTANCE AND BAPTISM];
-BB for He cannot be deceived,
A for the Lord [YHWH] God [Elohim] is His name.

John 10:7 Then said Jesus [Yeshua] unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I AM the DOOR [GATE] of the sheep.

3 Nephi (LDS 12:1) (RLDS 5:44-47)
A And it came to pass that when Jesus [Yeshua] had spoken these words unto Nephi, and to those who had been called,
-B (now the number of them who had been called, and received power and authority to baptize, was twelve)
–C and behold, He stretched forth His hand unto the multitude,
—D and cried unto them, saying: Blessed are ye if ye shall give heed unto the words of these twelve whom I have chosen from among you to minister unto you,
—-E and to be your servants;
—-E and unto them I have given power that they may baptize you with water;
—D and after that ye are baptized with water,
–C behold, I [YESHUA] will baptize you with fire and with the HOLY GHOST [LAW / TORAH];
-B therefore blessed are ye if ye shall believe in me and be baptized,
A after that ye have seen Me and know that I AM [YHWH].

Mosiah (LDS 15:1-5) (RLDS 8:28-32)
AA 1 And now Abinadi said unto them: I would that ye should understand that God [Elohim]
AB Himself shall come down among the children of men,
AC and shall REDEEM His people.
-BA 2 And because He dwelleth in flesh he shall be called the Son of God [Elohim],
-BB and having subjected the flesh to the will of the Father,
-BC being the Father and the Son—
-BA 3 The Father, because he was conceived by the power of God [Elohim];
-BB and the Son, because of the flesh;
-BC thus becoming the Father and Son—
–CA 4 And they are one God [Elohim],
–CB yea, the very Eternal Father [singular / modalism]
–CC of heaven and of earth.
-BA 5 And thus the flesh becoming subject to the [Holy] Spirit,
-BB or the Son to the Father,
-BC being one God [Elohim],
AA suffereth temptation, and yieldeth not to the temptation,
AB but suffereth Himself to be mocked, and scourged,
AC and cast out, and disowned by His people.

[1828 Webster’s Dictionary, PERSONAGE: 1) EXTERIOR APPEARANCE 2) CHARACTER ASSUMED 3) CHARACTER REPRESENTED]
Lectures on Faith 5:2 There are two personages [exterior appearance] who constitute the great, matchless, governing and supreme power over all things—by whom all things were created and made, that are created and made, whether visible or invisible: whether in heaven, on earth, or in the earth, under the earth, or throughout the immensity of space—They are the Father and the Son: The Father being a personage of spirit, glory and power: possessing all perfection and fulness: The Son, who was in the bosom of the Father, a personage of tabernacle, made, or fashioned like unto man, or being in the form and likeness of man, or, rather, man was formed after his likeness, and in his image;—he is also the express image and likeness of the personage of the Father: possessing all the fulness of the Father, or, the same fulness with the Father; being begotten of him, and was ordained from before the foundation of the world to be a propitiation for the sins of all those who should believe on his name, and is called the Son because of the flesh—and descended in suffering below that which man can suffer, or, in other words, suffered greater sufferings, and was exposed to more powerful contradictions than any man can be. But notwithstanding all this, he kept the law of God, and remained without sin: Showing thereby that it is in the power of man to keep the law and remain also without sin. And also, that by him a righteous judgment might come upon all flesh, and that all who walk not in the law of God, may justly be condemned by the law, and have no excuse for their sins. And he being the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth, and having overcome, received a fulness of the glory of the Father—possessing the same mind with the Father, which mind is the Holy Spirit, that bears record of the Father and the Son, and these three are one, or in other words, these three constitute the great, matchless, governing and supreme power over all things: by whom all things were created and made, that were created and made: and these three constitute the Godhead, and are one: The Father and the Son possessing the same mind, the same wisdom, glory, power and fulness: Filling all in all—the Son being filled with the fulness of the Mind, glory and power, or, in other words, the Spirit, glory and power of the Father—possessing all knowledge and glory, and the same kingdom: sitting at the right hand [same authority] of power, in the express image and likeness of the Father—a Mediator for man—being filled with the fulness of the Mind of the Father, or, in other words, the Spirit of the Father: which Spirit is shed forth upon all who believe on his name and keep his commandments: and all those who keep his commandments shall grow up from grace to grace, and become heirs of the heavenly kingdom, and joint heirs with Jesus Christ; possessing the same mind, being transformed into the same image or likeness, even the express image of him who fills all in all: being filled with the fulness of his glory, and become one in him, even as the Father, Son and Holy Spirit are one.

The last action of the two initiatives we are to do is baptism [immersion] of water, the first is to sincerely repent aka returning to the law / Torah, then the Father gives us two gifts baptism of fire [justification] and baptism of the Holy Ghost [sanctification]. Below is a poem I wrote to illustrate, along with scriptures and 1828 Webster’s Dictionary definitions.

A When our hearts change we repent and do it no more,
B we then desire to witness that to YHWH and the world by immersing in water,
A whereby the Father gives us forgiveness because of the merits of the Son,
BA which creates a desire in us to immerse in YHWH’s law / Torah,
BB which causes us to be like Him, Holy,
BC which He then blesses us to KNOW His Spirit.

Alma (LDS 13:12) (RLDS 10:4-5)
A Now they, after being sanctified by the Holy Ghost [law / Torah],
-B having their garments made white,
-B being pure and spotless before God [Elohim],
A could not look upon sin save it were with abhorrence;
-B and there were many, exceedingly great many,
A who were made pure and entered into the rest [presence] of the Lord [YHWH] their God [Elohim].

3 Nephi (LDS 27:20) (RLDS 12:33)
A Now this is the commandment: Repent, all ye ends of the earth,
-B and come unto me and be baptized in my name,
-B that ye may be sanctified by the reception of the Holy Ghost [law / Torah],
A that ye may stand spotless before me at the last day.

2 Thessalonians 2:13
A But we are bound to give thanks alway to God [Elohim] for you, brethren beloved of the Lord [YHWH],
-B because God [Elohim] hath from the beginning chosen you
-B to salvation through sanctification of the [Holy] Spirit [Temper / Behavior] [Torah tells us how YHWH wants us to act]
A and belief of the truth:

1 Peter 1:2
A Elect according to the foreknowledge of God [Elohim] the Father,
-B through sanctification of the [Holy] Spirit [Temper / Behavior],
-B unto obedience [of Torah which tells us how to act]
A and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus [Yeshua] Christ [the Messiah]: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.

Mosiah (LDS 13:28) (RLDS 8:5)
–CA 28 And moreover, I say unto you, that SALVATION DOES NOT COME BY THE LAW [TORAH] ALONE [Torah has a part in salvation];
—DA and were it not for the ATONEMENT,
—DB which GOD [ELOHIM] HIMSELF SHALL MAKE [ATONEMENT] for the sins and iniquities of his people,
–CA that they must unavoidably perish, notwithstanding [not opposing] the LAW OF MOSES [TYPES OF THINGS TO COME].

D&C (LDS 88:34-35) (RLDS 85) (1835 7) (1844)
A 34 And again, verily I say unto you, that which is GOVERNED by LAW [TORAH]
B is also PRESERVED [JUSTIFIED] by LAW [TORAH]
C and PERFECTED and SANCTIFIED by the SAME [LAW / TORAH].
AA 35 That which BREAKETH a LAW [TORAH],
AB and ABIDETH NOT by LAW [TORAH],
BA but seeketh to BECOME A LAW UNTO ITSELF,
B-B and WILLETH to abide in SIN,
BA and altogether abideth in SIN,
CA CANNOT be SANCTIFIED BY LAW [TORAH],
C-B neither by mercy, justice, nor judgment.
CA Therefore, they must REMAIN FILTHY still.

1828 Webster’s Dictionary, PRESERVE:
1. To keep or save from injury or destruction; to defend from evil.
2. To uphold; to sustain.

5. To keep or defend from corruption; as, to preserve youth from vice.

1828 Webster’s Dictionary, JUSTIFICATION:
1) The act of justifying; a showing to be just or conformable to law, rectitude or propriety; vindication; defense. The court listened to the evidence and arguments in justification of the prisoner’s conduct. Our disobedience to God’s commands admits no justification

We will leave this subject here and make a few remarks upon baptism the baptism of water with the baptism of fire and the Holy Ghost attending it. All THREE are NECESSARY and INSEPARABLY CONNECTED. A man must be born of water and the spirit in order to get into the kingdom of god … There is one God [Elohim], one Father, one Jesus [Yeshua], one hope of our calling, one baptism that is all THREE baptisms make one.
Joseph Smith, April 7, 1844, Nauvoo, IL; DHC, volume 6, pages 316-317

The reason the Lamanites from Helaman (LDS 5:45) (RLDS 2:111) and 3 Nephi (LDS 9:20) (RLDS 4:49-50) did not know what the baptism of fire [justification] and baptism of the Holy Ghost [sanctification], is because they did not remember and were not taught at that time what they were. In Baptisms Order I bring out how the text shows us those who received these two baptisms were baptized by water before by looking at the word dissenter and the words first and then.

Helaman (LDS 5:45) (RLDS 2:111)
A And behold, the Holy Spirit [law / Torah] of God did come down from heaven,
-B and did enter [written] into their hearts,
-B and they were filled as if with fire,
A and they could speak forth marvelous words [tongue of angels].

3 Nephi (LDS 9:20) (RLDS 4:49-50)
–CAA And ye shall offer for a sacrifice unto me a broken heart and a contrite spirit.
–CAB And whoso cometh unto me with a broken heart and a contrite spirit,
–CBA him will I baptize with fire and with the Holy Ghost,
–CB-B even as the Lamanites,
–CB-B because of their faith in me at the time of their conversion,
–CBA were baptized with fire and with the Holy Ghost, and they knew it not.

Deuteronomy 11:18
A Therefore shall ye lay up these MY [YHWH] WORDS IN your HEART
-B and IN your SOUL,
-B and BIND them for a sign upon your HAND [WHAT YOU DO],
A that they may be as frontlets BETWEEN your EYES [WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT].

Jeremiah 31:33
A But this shall be the COVENANT that I will make with the house of Israel;
-B After those days, saith the Lord [YHWH], I will put MY LAW [Torah] in their INWARD PARTS,
-B and WRITE IT in their HEARTS;
A and I WILL BE their GOD [ELOHIM], and they SHALL BE MY PEOPLE.

Baptism is a WITNESS of a covenant to return to and keep ALL of YHWH’s commandments / instructions / laws / Torah, which is what repenting is all about.

Mosiah (LDS 18:10) (RLDS 9:41)
A Now I say unto you, if this be the desire of your hearts,
-B what have you against being BAPTIZED in the NAME OF THE LORD,
-B AS A WITNESS before Him that ye HAVE ENTERED INTO A COVENANT with Him,
AA that ye will SERVE HIM and KEEP HIS COMMANDMENTS,
AB that He may pour out His SPIRIT MORE ABUNDANTLY upon you?

2 Nephi (LDS 31:13-14) (RLDS 13:18-20)
——G 13 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, I know that if ye shall FOLLOW [IMITATE] the Son, with full purpose of heart, acting no hypocrisy and no deception before God, but with real intent,
——G1 REPENTING of your sins,
——G2 WITNESSING unto the Father that ye are willing to take upon you the name [authority] of Christ [the Messiah],
——G3 BY BAPTISM—yea, by FOLLOWING [IMITATING] your Lord [YHWH] and your Savior down into the water, according to His word, behold,
——G4 then shall ye receive the HOLY GHOST [law / Torah]; yea, then cometh the baptism of FIRE and of the HOLY GHOST [law / Torah];
——G5 and then can ye speak with the TONGUE OF ANGELS, and shout praises unto the Holy One of Israel.
——G 14 But, behold, my beloved brethren, thus came the voice of the Son unto me, saying:
——G1 After ye have REPENTED of your sins,
——G2 and WITNESSED unto the Father that ye are willing to keep my commandments,
——G3 BY the BAPTISM of water,
——G4 and have received the baptism of FIRE and of the HOLY GHOST,
——G5 and can speak with a new tongue, yea, even with the TONGUE OF ANGELS, and after this should deny Me, it would have been better for you that ye had not known Me.

The way also know as the path of life is to learn and do YHWH’s law / Torah.

Jacob (LDS 2:21) (RLDS 2:26-28)
A Do ye not suppose that such things are abominable unto Him who created all flesh?
-B And the one being is as precious in His sight as the other.
–C And all flesh is of the dust;
-B and for the selfsame END [PURPOSE / GOAL] hath He created them,
C THAT THEY SHOULD KEEP HIS COMMANDMENTS [LAW / TORAH] AND GLORIFY HIM FOREVER.

A and He hath commanded His people that THEY SHOULD PERSUADE ALL MEN TO REPENT.

Exodus 18:20
A And thou shalt teach them ordinances and LAWS [HEBREW: TORAH],
B and shalt shew them the WAY wherein they must WALK,
C and the work [actions] that they must DO.

Joshua 22:5
A But take diligent heed to do the commandment and the LAW [HEBREW: TORAH],
-B which Moses the servant of the Lord [YHWH] charged you,
-B to love the Lord [YHWH] your God [Elohim],
AA and to WALK in all His WAYS,
AB and to keep His COMMANDMENTS,
ACA and to cleave unto Him,
ACB and to serve Him with all your heart
ACC and with all your soul.

1 Kings 2:3

—D and His commandments,
—D and His judgments,
–C and His testimonies,
-B as it is WRITTEN in the LAW [HEBREW: TORAH] [during] Moses,
AA that thou mayest prosper in all that thou doest,
AB and whithersoever thou turnest thyself:

Psalm 119:1
A Blessed are the undefiled in the way,
B who walk in the LAW [HEBREW: TORAH] of the Lord [YHWH].

Isaiah 2:3 (2 Nephi (LDS 12:3) (RLDS 8:19))

AAB Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord [YHWH] [Saini],
AB to the house [people] of the God [Elohim] of Jacob;
-BA and He will teach us of His WAYS,
-BB and we will WALK in His PATHS:
AA for out of Zion shall go forth the LAW [HEBREW: TORAH],
AB and the word [law / Torah] of the Lord [YHWH] from Jerusalem.

Jeremiah 6:16
A Thus saith the Lord [YHWH],
-B Stand ye in the WAYS, and see,
–C and ask for the OLD PATHS,

-BB and WALK therein,
AA and ye shall find rest for your souls.
AB But they said, We will not walk therein.

Acts 24:14
AA But this I confess unto thee,
AB that after the WAY which they call heresy,
-B so worship I the God [Elohim] of my fathers,
-A believing all things which are WRITTEN in the LAW [TORAH] and in the PROPHETS:

2 Nephi (LDS 4:32) (RLDS 3:54-55)
A May the gates of hell be shut continually before me,
B because that my heart is broken and my spirit is contrite!
A O Lord, wilt thou not shut the gates of thy righteousness before me,
B that I may WALK in the PATH [LAW / TORAH] of the low valley,
C that I may be STRICK in the PLAIN [LAW / TORAH] ROAD!

Mosiah (LDS 2:35-36) (RLDS 1:77-79)
A 35 And also, all that has been SPOKEN BY OUR FATHERS [LAW / TORAH] until now.
-B And behold, also, they spake that which was COMMANDED [INSTRUCTED] them of the Lord [YHWH];
-B therefore, they are just and true.
A 36 And now, I say unto you, my brethren, that after ye have known and have been TAUGHT ALL THESE THINGS [LAW / TORAH],
-B if ye should transgress and go contrary to that which has been spoken [law / Torah],
–C that ye do withdraw yourselves from the [Holy] Spirit of the Lord [YHWH] [law / Torah],
-B that it [law / Torah] may have no place in you
AA to guide you in wisdom’s PATHS [LAW / TORAH]
AB that ye may be blessed, prospered, and preserved-

Alma (LDS 7:9) (RLDS 5:17-18)
AA But behold, the Spirit hath said this much unto me, saying:
AB Cry unto this people, saying-
AC Repent ye, and prepare the WAY [LAW / TORAH] of the Lord [YHWH],
BA and WALK in His PATHS [LAW / TORH],
BB which are straight;
CA for behold, the kingdom of heaven is at hand,
CB and the Son of God [Elohim] cometh upon the face of the earth.

Alma (LDS 7:20) (RLDS 5:5:34-35)
AA I perceive that it has been made known unto you,
AB by the testimony of his word,
AC that he cannot WALK in crooked PATHS;
-BA neither doth He vary from that which He hath said;
-BB neither hath He a shadow of turning from the right to the left,
AA or from that which is right to that which is wrong;
AB therefore, His course is one eternal round [always the same].

3 Nephi (LDS 27:33) (RLDS 11:13)
AA And it came to pass that when Jesus [Yeshua] had ended these sayings He said unto His disciples:
AB Enter ye in at the STRAIT GATE [LAW / TORAH];
-BA for STRAIT is the GATE [LAW / TORAH],
-BB and NARROW is the WAY [LAW / TORAH] that leads to Life [Yeshua],
-BC and few there be that find it;
-BA but wide is the gate,
-BB and broad the way which leads to death,
-BC and many there be that travel therein,
AA until the night cometh [physical death],
AB wherein no man can work [no more repenting].

Mormon (LDS 9:20) (RLDS 4:83)
A And the reason why He ceaseth to do miracles among the children of men is
-B because that they dwindle in unbelief,
-B and depart from the right WAY [LAW / TORAH],
A and know not the God [Elohim] in whom they should trust.

Moroni (LDS 8:16) (RLDS 8:17-18)
A Wo be unto them that shall pervert the WAYS of the Lord [YHWH] after this manner,
-B for they shall perish except they repent.
A Behold, I speak with BOLDNESS [PLAINNESS / TORAH],
-B having authority from God [Elohim];
-B and I fear not what man can do;
A for PERFECT LOVE casteth out all fear.

John 14:6
AA Jesus [Yeshua] saith unto him, I AM the WAY,
AB the truth,
AC and the life:
B no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

John 10:7 Then said Jesus [Yeshua] unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I AM the DOOR [GATE] of the sheep.

The tongue of angles is calling people to repentance. They can do this because they know the law / Torah, which is all the instructions / commandments that comes from YHWH’s / Yeshua’s / Jesus’ mouth. Both H stanzas in Moroni (LDS 7:25-37) (RLDS 7:24-42) bring this out very clearly as so does the whole passage.

Moroni (LDS 7:25-37) (RLDS 7:24-42)
AA 25 Wherefore, by the ministering of angels,
A-B and by EVERY WORD which PROCEEDED forth out of the MOUTH OF GOD [ELOHIM],
A–C men BEGAN to EXERCISE FAITH in Christ [the Messiah];
A-B and thus by FAITH, they did lay hold upon EVERY GOOD THING [YESHUA AND THE LAW / TORAH];
AA and thus it was until the coming of Christ [the Messiah].
-BA 26 And after that He came men also were SAVED by FAITH in His name [authority];
-B-B and by faith, they BECOME the SONS OF GOD [ELOHIM].
-B-B And as surely as CHRIST [THE MESSIAH] liveth He spake these words unto our FATHERS, saying:
-BAA Whatsoever thing ye shall ask the Father in My name [authority],
-BA-B which is GOOD [SALVATION AND PROMISES IN TORAH],
-BA-B in FAITH believing that ye shall receive,
-BAA behold, it shall be done unto you.
–CA 27 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, have MIRACLES ceased
–C-B because CHRIST [THE MESSIAH] hath ascended into heaven,
–C–C and hath sat down on the right hand [same authority] of God [Elohim],
–C-B to claim of the Father His rights of MERCY which He hath upon the children of men?
–CA 28 For he hath ANSWERED the ENDS [PURPOSE] of the LAW [ATONEMENT AND SHOWING US HOW WE ARE TO BEHAVE],
—DA and He claimeth all those who have faith in Him;
—D-B and they who have faith in Him will cleave unto every good thing [Yeshua and law / Torah];
—D-B wherefore He advocateth the cause of the children of men;
—DA and He dwelleth eternally in the heavens.
—-EA 29 And because he hath done this, my beloved brethren, have MIRACLES ceased?
—-EB Behold I say unto you, Nay;
—–FA neither have ANGELS ceased to MINISTER unto the children of men.
—–FB 30 For behold, they are subject unto Him, to MINISTER according to the WORD of His COMMAND,
——G showing themselves unto them of STRONG FAITH and a FIRM MIND in every form of godliness [law / Torah].
——-H 31 And the office [work] of THEIR [ANGELS] MINISTRY is to CALL [TONGUE] MEN unto REPENTANCE,
——–I and to fulfil and to do the work of the covenants of the Father,
———J which he hath made unto the children of men,
——–I to prepare the way among the children of men,
——-H BY DECLARING THE WORD [INSTRUCTIONS] OF CHRIST [THE MESSIAH] unto the chosen vessels of the Lord [YHWH],
——G that they may bear TESTIMONY of Him [and His peace after they repent].
—–FA 32 And by so doing, the Lord God prepareth the way that the residue of men may have faith in Christ,
—–FB that the HOLY GHOST [law / Torah] may have PLACE [WRITTEN] in their HEARTS [Deuteronomy 11:18, Jerimiah 31:33],
—-EA according to the POWER thereof;
—-E-B and after this MANNER bringeth to pass the Father,
—-EA the COVENANTS [law / Torah] which He hath made unto the children of men.
—DA 33 And Christ hath said: If ye will have faith in me ye shall have power
—D-B to do whatsoever thing is expedient [repent] in Me.
—D-B 34 And he hath said: Repent all ye ends of the earth,
—DAA and come unto me,
—DA-B and be baptized in my name,
—DA-B and have faith in me,
—DAA that ye may be saved.
–CA 35 And now, my beloved brethren, if this be the case that these things are true which I have spoken unto you,
–C-B and God will show unto you, with power and great glory at the last day, that they are true,
–CA and if they are true has the day of miracles ceased?
-BA 36 Or have angels ceased to appear unto the children of men?
-B-B Or has he withheld the power of the Holy Ghost [law / Torah that sanctifies] from them?
-BAA Or will he, so long as time shall last,
-BA-B or the earth shall stand,
-BAA or there shall be one man upon the face thereof to be saved? [time is only measured unto man]
AA 37 Behold I say unto you, Nay; for it is by faith that miracles are wrought;
A-B and it is by faith that ANGELS appear and MINISTER unto men;
A-B wherefore, if these things have ceased wo be unto the children of men,
AA for it is because of unbelief, and all is vain.

A But this shall be the COVENANT that I will make with the house of Israel;
-B After those days, saith the Lord [YHWH], I will put MY LAW [Torah] in their INWARD PARTS,
-B and WRITE IT in their HEARTS;
A and I WILL BE their GOD [ELOHIM], and they SHALL BE MY PEOPLE.

Alma (LDS 40:8) (RLDS 19:38) … ; all is as one day with God [Elohim], and time only is measured unto men.

1828 Webster’s Dictionary, MEASURE:
3) A limited or definite quantity; as a measure of wine or beer.
4) Determined extent or length; limit.
15) Means to an end; an act, step or proceeding towards the accomplishment of an object; an extensive signification of the word, applicable to almost every act preparatory to a final end, and by which it is to be attained. Thus we speak of legislative measures, political measures, public measures, prudent measures, a rash measure effectual measures, inefficient measures.
2) To pass through or over.

Just as after we have received the Holy Spirit [Ghost] [law / Torah] we can speak with the tongue of angels so shall those who desire to teach of YHWH ways should wait until after they have learned of His paths and have kept them themselves such that they know of Yeshua’s / Jesus’ true points of doctrine and law / Torah, such that they can actually teach of YHWH’s instructions to help others come to the Messiah. It is interesting to note that in D&C (LDS 11:21) (RLDS 10) (1833 10) (1835 37) (1844 37) tongue, and I added of angels, is used to describe teaching of YHWH’s ways as it is used in Moroni (LDS 7:25-37) (RLDS 7:24-42).

D&C (LDS 11:16-22) (RLDS 10) (1833 10) (1835 37) (1844 37)
AA 16 Wait a little longer [before you preach],
A-B until you shall have my word,
A–C my rock,
A–C my church,
A-B and my gospel,
AA that you may know of a surety my doctrine.
-BA 17 And then, behold, according to your desires,
-BB yea, even according to your faith shall it be done unto you.
–C 18 Keep my commandments;
—DA hold your peace;
—DB appeal unto my Spirit;
—DC 19 Yea, cleave unto Me with all your heart,
—-E that you may assist in bringing to light those things of which has been spoken—
—-E yea, the translation of my work;
—D be patient until you shall accomplish it.
–CA 20 Behold, this is your work, to keep my commandments,
–CB yea, with all your might, mind and strength.
-BA 21 Seek not to declare my word,
-B-B but first seek to obtain my word,
-B–C and then shall your TONGUE [OF ANGELS] be loosed;
-B-B then, if you desire, you shall have my Spirit and my word,
-BA yea, the power of God unto the convincing of men.
AA 22 But now hold your peace;
A-B study my word which hath gone forth among the children of men [Bible],
A–C and also study my word which shall come forth among the children of men [Book of Mormon],
A–C or that which is now translating [Book of Mormon],
A-B yea, until you have obtained all which I shall grant unto the children of men in this generation [much vs all],
AA and then shall all things be added thereto.

Matthew (JST 7:1-9) (KJV 7:1-5)
AA 1 Now these are the words which Jesus [Yeshua] taught His disciples
AB that they should say unto the people.
-BAAA 2 Judge not unrighteously, that ye be not judged;
-BAAB but judge righteous judgment.
-BA-BA 3 For with what judgment ye shall judge,
-BA-BB ye shall be judged;
-BAAA and with what measure ye mete,
-BAAB it shall be measured to you again.
-BBA 4 And again, ye shall say unto them, Why is it that thou beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye,
-BB-B but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?
-BB–C 5 Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye;
-BB–C and canst not behold a beam is in thine own eye?
-BB—D 6 And Jesus said unto his disciples, Beholdest thou the scribes, and the [Orthodox] Pharisees, and the Priests, and the Levites?
-BB—-E They teach in their synagogues,
-BB—–F but do not observe the law,
-BB—–F nor the commandments;
-BB—-E and all have gone out of the way, and are under sin.
-BB—D 7 Go thou and say unto them, Why teach ye men the law and the commandments,
-BB—D when ye yourselves are the children of corruption?
-BB–C 8 Say unto them, Ye hypocrites,
-BB-B first cast out the beam out of thine own eyes;
-BBA and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye.
AA 9 Go ye into the world, saying unto all,
AB Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come nigh unto you.

Mosiah (LDS 23:13-18) (RLDS 11:13-20)
AAA 13 And now as ye have been delivered by the power of God [Elohim] out of these bonds;
AAB yea, even out of the hands of king Noah and his people,
A-B and also from the bonds of iniquity,
A–C even so I desire that ye should stand fast in this liberty
A-B wherewith ye have been made free,
AAA and that ye trust no man
AAB to be a king over you.
-BA 14 And also trust no one to be your teacher nor your minister,
-B-B except he be a man of God [Elohim],
-BA walking in His ways [path] and keeping His commandments [law / Torah].
–C 15 Thus did Alma teach his people,
—D that every man should love his neighbor as himself,
—D that there should be no contention [false doctrines] among them.
–C 16 And now, Alma was their high priest, he being the founder of their church.
-BAA 17 And it came to pass that none received authority to preach or to teach
-BAB except it were by him from God [Elohim].
-B-B Therefore he consecrated all their priests and all their teachers;
-BA and none were consecrated except they were just men.
AA 18 Therefore they did watch over their people,
AB and did nourish them with things pertaining to righteousness [law / Torah].

Proverbs 13:20
A He that walketh with wise men shall be wise:
B but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.

Light is an image for the law / Torah in the scriptures, because with it we can see where to walk in this dark and dreary world.

Psalm 119:105
A Thy [YHWH] word is a LAMP unto my FEET,
B and a LIGHT unto my PATH.

Proverbs 6:23
A For the COMMANDMENT is a LAMP;
B and the LAW [HEBREW: TORAH] IS LIGHT;
C and REPROOFS of INSTRUCTION are the way of life:

Proverbs 4:18-19
A 18 But the PATH [TORAH] of the just is as the SHINING LIGHT,
B that SHINETH more and more unto the PERFECT [JUDGEMENT] DAY.
A 19 The way of the wicked is as darkness:
B they know not at what they stumble.

Isaiah 8:20
A To the LAW [HEBREW: TORAH] and to the testimony:
-B if they speak not according to this word,
A it is because there is no LIGHT in them.

D&C (LDS 84:45) (RLDS 83) (1835 4) (1844)
A For the WORD of the Lord [YHWH] is truth,
-B and whatsoever is truth is LIGHT,
-B and whatsoever is LIGHT is [Holy] Spirit [Temper / Behavior] [Torah tells us how YHWH wants us to act],
A even the Spirit of Jesus [Yeshua] Christ [the Messiah].

Knowing that light is another word for the law / Torah, Moroni (LDS 7:18-19) (RLDS 7:17-18) becomes so clear to understand. Because it’s telling to make judgements by the written law / Torah.

Moroni (LDS 7:18-19) (RLDS 7:17-18)
A 18 And now, my brethren, seeing that ye know the LIGHT [TORAH] by which ye may JUDGE,
-B which LIGHT is the LIGHT of [from] Christ [the Messiah],
–C see that ye do not judge wrongfully;
—D for with that same judgment which ye judge
—D ye shall also be judged.
–C 19 Wherefore, I beseech of you, brethren, that ye should search diligently
-B in the LIGHT of Christ [the Messiah]
AA that ye may KNOW GOOD FROM EVIL;
A-B and if ye will lay hold upon every good thing [law / Torah],
A-B and condemn it [singular] [law / Torah] not,
AA ye certainly will be a child [follower] of Christ [the Messiah].

We are to make judgements by the law / Torah. In the beginning of Bishops are JUDGEs of Israel I talk about how judges are to operate, and it’s not by the feelings of their hearts, it’s by the law. Here are verses I share in Bishops are JUDGEs of Israel regarding making judgements by the law / Torah.

Mosiah (LDS 29:11) (RLDS 13:14-15) … ACCORDING to our LAW… ACCORDING to the COMMANDMENTS of GOD.

Mosiah (LDS 29:15) (RLDS 13:20) … I PUNISHED ACCORDING to the CRIME which he has COMMITTED, ACCORDING to the LAW …

Mosiah (LDS 29:25) (RLDS 13:34) … that ye may be JUDGED ACCORDING to the LAWS …

Mosiah (LDS 29:39) (RLDS 13:56-57) … to JUDGE them ACCORDING to the LAW …

Mosiah (LDS 29:41) (RLDS 13:62) … or to JUDGE THEM ACCORDING to the LAW; …

Alma (LDS 11:2) (RLDS 8:49-51) … and he JUDGED the man according to the LAW …

Here are some examples from Torah stating the same thing. Jewish Judges: Who are they? What are their qualities? is one place to start if you want to start learning about this.

Deuteronomy 17:18 And it shall be, when he [the king / judge] sitteth upon the throne of his kingdom, that he shall write him a copy of this law in a book out of that which is before the priests the Levites:

Exodus 21:1 Now these are the judgments which thou shalt set before them.

I find it insightful that the Torah tells us to do judgements at the GATES of the city, just as YHWH judges us at His gate. Even to the point of stoning, because this is partly a prophecy of the fire and brimstone that is coming at Yeshua’s second coming. In this Scripture Study I bring out how Yeshua’s / Jesus’ second coming proves that stoning is still in the law, otherwise it would be unlawful for Him to stone the wicked when He returns. I also explain why D&C (LDS 42:18-28) (RLDS 42) (1833 44,47) (1835 13) (1844 13) did not get rid of stoning, including that it doesn’t say that is done away with.

Deuteronomy 17:5
A Then shalt thou bring forth that man or that woman,
B which have committed that wicked thing, unto thy GATES,
A even that man or that woman,
B and shalt stone them with stones, till they die.

Luke 17:26-30
AA 26 And as it was in the days of Noah, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man.
AB 27 They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage,
-BA until the day that Noah entered into the ark,
-BB and the flood came, and destroyed them all.
AA 28 Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot;
AB they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded;
-BA 29 But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom
-BB it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all.
A 30 Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed.

Yeshua / Jesus tells that when people stop keeping His law / Torah, people will stop showing love one to another.

Matthew 24:12
A And because iniquity [lawlessness] shall abound,
B the love of many shall wax cold.

The reason why is simple. It’s because YHWH’s law / Torah is how YHWH wants us to love Him and to love others.

Matthew 22:36-40
A 36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law?
-B 37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord [YHWH] thy God [Elohim] with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

The Torah / Law has a part in SANCTIFYING us and SAVING us because Yeshua / Jesus saves us from our sins not in them. And breaking the law / Torah is sinning. Yeshua’s / Jesus’ mercy is to cover our past, not to be used as an excuse to continue to sin. If you use mercy as an excuse to continue to sin, you have not been born again and have not become a new creature, you are your same old self doing the same things now with an excuse deceiving yourself thinking you are justified when you are not.

Romans 6:14-18
AA 14 For sin shall not have dominion [rule] over you:
AB for ye are not under the [curse] law, but under [covered] grace.
-BA15 What then? shall we sin,
-BB because we are not under the [curse] law,
-BC but under [covered] grace? God [Elohim] forbid.
–C 16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey,
—D his servants ye are to whom ye obey;
—D whether of sin unto death,
–C or of obedience unto righteousness?
-BA 17 But God [Elohim] be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin,
-BB but ye have obeyed from the heart
-BC that form of doctrine [law / Torah / righteousness] which was delivered you.
AA 18 Being then made free from sin,
AB ye became the servants of righteousness.

Mosiah (LDS 13:28) (RLDS 8:5)
–CA 28 And moreover, I say unto you, that SALVATION DOES NOT COME BY THE LAW [TORAH] ALONE [Torah has a part in salvation];

A 34 And again, verily I say unto you, that which is GOVERNED by LAW
B is also PRESERVED [JUSTIFIED] by LAW
C and PERFECTED and SANCTIFIED by the SAME [LAW].
AA 35 That which BREAKETH a LAW,
AB and ABIDETH NOT by LAW,
BA but seeketh to BECOME A LAW UNTO ITSELF,
B-B and WILLETH to abide in SIN,
BA and altogether abideth in SIN,
CA CANNOT be SANCTIFIED BY LAW,
C-B neither by mercy, justice, nor judgment.
CA Therefore, they must REMAIN FILTHY still.

1828 Webster’s Dictionary, PRESERVE:
1. To keep or save from injury or destruction; to defend from evil.
2. To uphold; to sustain.
3. To save from decay; to keep in a sound state; as, to preserve fruit in winter. SALT is used to preserve meat.
4. To season with sugar or other substances for preservation; as, to preserve plums, quinces or other fruit.

2) Absolution.
3) In law, the showing of a sufficient reason in court why a defendant did what he is called to answer. Pleas in justification must set forth some special matter.
4) In theology, remission of sin and absolution from guilt and punishment; or an act of free grace by which God pardons the sinner and accepts him as righteous, on account of the atonement of Christ.

1828 Webster’s Dictionary, SANCTIFICATION:
1) The act of making holy. In an evangelical sense, the act of God’s grace by which the affections of men are purified or alienated from sin and the world, and exalted to a supreme love to God.
2) The act of consecrating or of setting apart for a sacred purpose; consecration.

Mosiah (LDS 15:26-27) (RLDS 8:61-65)
A 26 But behold, and fear, and tremble before God [Elohim], for ye ought to tremble;
-B for the Lord [YHWH] redeemeth none such that REBEL against Him and DIE IN THEIR SINS;
–C yea, even all those that have PERISHED IN THEIR SINS ever since the world began,
—D that have WILFULLY REBELLED against God [Elohim],
—D that have known the COMMANDMETNS [TORAH] of God,
–C and would NOT KEEP THEM [TORAH];
-B these are they that have no part in the first resurrection.
AA 27 Therefore ought ye not to tremble?
A-B For salvation cometh to none such;
A–C for the Lord [YHWH] hath redeemed none such;
A–C yea, neither can the Lord [YHWH] redeem such;
A-B for He cannot deny Himself;
AA for He cannot deny justice when it has its claim.

Alma (LDS 11:37) (RLDS 8:91-92)
A And I say unto you again that He [Yeshua] CANNOT SAVE them IN THEIR SINS;
-B for I cannot deny His word, and He hath said that no unclean thing can inherit the kingdom of heaven;
-B therefore, how can ye be saved, except ye inherit the kingdom of heaven?
A Therefore, ye CANNOT be SAVED IN YOUR SINS.

Helaman (LDS 5:10) (RLDS 2:72) And remember also the words which Amulek spake unto Zeezrom, in the city of Ammonihah;
A for he said unto him that the Lord [YHWH] surely should come to REDEEM His people,
-B but that He should NOT come to redeem them IN THEIR SINS,
A but to REDEEM them FROM their SINS.

1 John 3:4
A Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth [lawlessness] also the law:
B for sin is the transgression [violating] of the law.

Mosiah (LDS 26:29) (RLDS 11:137-138)
A Therefore I say unto you, Go; and whosoever TRANSGRESSETH against Me [YHWH],
B him shall ye judge according to the SINS which he has committed;
A and if he CONFESS his sins before thee and Me [YHWH],
-B and REPENTETH in the SINCERITY of his HEART,
A him shall ye FORGIVE, and I [YHWH] will FORGIVE him also.

Matthew 7:21-23 [3 Nephi (LDS 12:21-23) (RLDS 5:69-71)]
AA 21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord [YHWH], Lord [YHWH], shall enter into the kingdom of heaven;
AB but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
-BA 22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord [YHWH], Lord [YHWH], have we not prophesied in thy name?
-BB and in thy name have cast out devils?
-BC and in thy name done many wonderful works?
AA 23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you:
AB depart from me, ye that work iniquity [lawlessness].

The knowledge we are to search is the scriptures which are given to us to help us understand how to keep YHWH’s law / Torah in our mortal life, which should be our purpose to our life.

Ecclesiastes 12:13
A Let us hear the CONCLUSION of the whole matter:
-B Fear God, and KEEP HIS COMMANDMENTS:
A for this is the WHOLE DUTY [PURPOSE] of man.

2 Nephi (LDS 26:27) (RLDS 11:102-103)
A Hath He commanded any that they should not partake of his salvation?
-B Behold I say unto you, Nay;
-B but He hath given it free for all men;
A and He hath commanded His people that THEY SHOULD PERSUADE ALL MEN TO REPENT.

Jacob (LDS 2:21) (RLDS 2:26-28)
A Do ye not suppose that such things are abominable unto Him who created all flesh?
-B And the one being is as precious in His sight as the other.
–C And all flesh is of the dust;
-B and for the selfsame END [PURPOSE / GOAL] hath He created them,
C THAT THEY SHOULD KEEP HIS COMMANDMENTS [LAW / TORAH] AND GLORIFY HIM FOREVER.

If we don’t search for this knowledge of how to keep YHWH’s laws / Torah and then do it, He will reject us and forget us.

Hosea 4:6
AA My people are destroyed for LACK of KNOWLEDGE:
AB because thou hast REJECTED KNOWLEDGE,
-BA I will also REJECT THEE [YOU],
-BB that thou shalt be no priest to me:
AA seeing thou hast FORGOTTEN the LAW [HEBREW: TORAH] of thy GOD [ELOHIM],
AB I will also FORGET thy children [followers].

Alma (LDS 12:10-11) (RLDS 9:17-21)
A 10 And therefore, he that will harden his heart,
B the same receiveth the lesser portion of the word;
A and he that will not harden his heart,
B to him is given the greater portion of the word,
C until it is given unto him to know the mysteries of God [Elohim] until he know them in full.
A 11 And they that will harden their hearts,
B to them is given the lesser portion of the word
C until they know nothing concerning His mysteries;
A and then they are taken captive by the devil,
B and led by his will down to destruction.
C Now this is what is meant by the chains of hell.

I talked about tzitzit / tassels some above, but after seeing how Satan drags us down to hell with his chains I want to bring up how this starts with a flaxen cord which is relatively easy to break, which is made from a soft material just as “little” sins look like they are no big deal. The problem with allowing one sin, we will tell ourselves that another sin is not much worse to the point Satan has bound us to hell with his strong cords upon us. The reason I bring up tzitzit / tassels with all this is to contrast Satan’s chains which bind us to hell and YHWH’s tzitzit / tassels / strings that remind us how to be like Him and thus be with Him in Heaven. I don’t know about you but I much prefer YHWH’s tzitzit / tassels than Satan’s chains any day as I talk about in Catch and Understand.

2 Nephi (LDS 26:22) (RLDS 11:93-94)
A And there are also secret combinations,
-B even as in times of old,
–C according to the combinations of the devil,
-B for he is the founder of all these things;
AA yea, the founder of murder, and works of darkness;
A-B yea, and he LEADETH them by the neck with a FLAXEN CORD,
AA until he BINDETH them with his STRONG CORDS forever.

The words PLAINLY and PLAINNESS are very important words to keep in mind while teaching people how to come to Yeshua / Jesus. Lets start by looking at what these words mean in the 1828 Webster’s Dictionary. Please note that it’s about being open and honest to the point of being blunt about it and nothing about hiding portions to later teach in secret.

1828 Webster’s Dictionary, PLAINLY:
1) Without cunning or disguise.
2) Without ornament or artificial embellishment; as, to be plainly clad.
3) Frankly; honestly; sincerely; as, deal plainly with me.
4) In earnest; fairly.
5) In a manner to be easily seen or comprehended.
6) Evidently; clearly; not obscurely. The doctrines of grace are plainly taught in the Scriptures.

1828 Webster’s Dictionary, PLAINNESS:
1) Want [absence] of ornament; want [absence] of artificial show.
2) Openness; rough, blunt or unrefined frankness.
3) Artlessness; simplicity; candor; as unthinking plainness
4) Clearness; openness; sincerity.

John 18:20-21
A 20 Jesus [Yeshua] answered him, I spake openly to the world;
-BA I ever taught in the synagogue,
-BB and in the temple,
-BC whither the Jews always resort;
–C and in SECRET have I SAID NOTHING.
-BA 21 Why askest thou me?
-BB ask them which heard me,
-BC what I have said unto them: [law of witnesses]
A behold, they know what I said.

2 Nephi (LDS 28:9) (RLDS 12:12)
A Yea, and there shall be many which shall teach after this manner,
-B false and vain and foolish doctrines,
–C and shall be puffed up in their hearts,
-B and shall SEEK deep to HIDE their COUNSELS from the Lord [YHWH];
A and their works shall be in the dark.

Next thing we need to know is that plain is a Hebrew idiom meaning the law / Torah. I first learned of this from Rob Kay in person, sadly he doesn’t state this in an article on his blog The Mormon Yeshiva. The article A Misunderstood Hebrew Idiom does bring this out some even though it’s focus is on Matthew 5:17 (3 Nephi (LDS 12:17) (RLDS 5:64)). The book Understanding the Difficult Words of Jesus: New Insights From a Hebrew Perspective is a great book to start learning some Hebrew Idioms and why they are important to know.

KJV Genesis 25:27 And the boys grew: and Esau was a cunning hunter, a man of the field; and Jacob was a plain man, dwelling in tents.

The word translated as “plain” is tam, or tawm, from H8552. It means complete; usually (morally) pious; specifically gentle, dear: coupled together, perfect, plain, undefiled, upright.

The word is used a total of 12 other times in the following verses: Job1:1, Job 1:8, Job 2:3, Job 8:20, Job 9:20, Job 9:21, Job 9:22, Psalms 37:37, Psalms 64:4 Proverbs 29:10 , Song of Solomon 5:2 and 6:9. Nine times it was translated as perfect, twice as undefiled, and once as upright. The one and only time this particular word is translated in the King James Version as plain is when referring to Jacob, who became Israel.

Christine Egbert, A Misunderstood Hebrew Idiom

Tam [plain] is H8535 and is translated in various ways all dealing with the end result of keeping YHWH’s law / Torah including perfect and blameless. Tamam H8552 deals with complete or finished.

As Jacob was in the tent studying Torah and the prophecies contained there in so also was Lehi doing the same thing while in his tent. Incidentally dwelling in a tent is a Hebrew idiom for studying the prophecies and Torah, which is what 1 Nephi (LDS 2:8-24) (RLDS 1:35-58) is about. The book Ancient order of Melchizedek brings this out in chapter 5: Abraham to Levi.

1 Nephi (LDS 2:8-24) (RLDS 1:35-58)
AA 8 And it came to pass that he called the name of the river, Laman, and it emptied into the Red Sea;
AB and the valley was in the borders near the mouth thereof.
AAA 9 And when my father saw that the waters of the river emptied into the fountain of the Red Sea, he spake unto Laman, saying:
AAB O that thou mightest be like unto this river,
AAC continually running into the fountain of all righteousness!
ABA 10 And he also spake unto Lemuel:
ABB O that thou mightest be like unto this valley,
ABC firm and steadfast, and immovable in keeping the commandments of the Lord [YHWH]!
-BA 11 Now this he spake because of the stiffneckedness of Laman and Lemuel;
-B-B for behold they did murmur in many things against their father,
-B–C because he was a VISIONARY man,
-B–C and had led them out of the land of Jerusalem,
-B-BA to leave the land of their inheritance,
-B-B-BA and their gold,
-B-B-BB and their silver,
-B-B-BC and their precious things,
-B-BA to perish in the wilderness.
-BA And this they said he had done because of the foolish imaginations of his heart.
–CA 12 And thus Laman and Lemuel, being the eldest,
–CB did murmur against their father.
–CC And they did murmur because they knew not the dealings of that God who had created them.
—DA 13 Neither did they believe that Jerusalem,
—D-B that great city,
—D–C could be destroyed according to the words of the prophets [prophecy].
—D-B And they were like unto the Jews who were at Jerusalem,
—DA who sought to take away the life of my father.
—-EA 14 And it came to pass that my father did speak unto them
—-EB in the valley of Lemuel, with power,
—-EC being filled with the [Holy] Spirit,
—–F until their frames did shake before him.
——GA And he did confound them,
——GB that they durst not utter against him;
——-H wherefore, they did as he commanded them.
——–I 15 And my father dwelt in a tent.
——-HA 16 And it came to pass that I, Nephi, being exceedingly young,
——-HB nevertheless being large in stature,
——-HC and also having great desires to know of the mysteries of God [Elohim],
——GA wherefore, I did cry unto the Lord [YHWH];
——G-B and behold He did visit me,
——G-B and did soften my heart that
——GA I did believe all the words which had been spoken by my father;
—–F wherefore, I did not rebel against him like unto my brothers.
—-EA 17 And I spake unto Sam,
—-EB making known unto him the things which the Lord [YHWH]
—-EC had manifested unto me by His Holy Spirit [law / Torah].
—DA And it came to pass that he believed in my words.
—D-B 18 But, behold, Laman and Lemuel would not hearken unto my words;
—DA and being grieved because of the hardness of their hearts I cried unto the Lord for them.
–CA 19 And it came to pass that the Lord [YHWH] spake unto me, saying:
–CB Blessed art thou, Nephi, because of thy faith,
–CC for thou hast sought Me diligently, with lowliness of heart.
-BAA 20 And inasmuch as ye shall keep My commandments [law / Torah], ye shall prosper,
-BAB and shall be led to a land of promise;
-BBA yea, even a land which I have prepared for you;
-BBB yea, a land which is choice above all other lands.
AAA 21 And inasmuch as thy brethren shall REBEL against thee,
AAB they shall be CUT OFF from the presence of the Lord [YHWH].
A-BA 22 And inasmuch as thou shalt keep My commandments [law / Torah],
A-BB thou shalt be made a ruler and a teacher over thy brethren. [Deuteronomy 28:11, 13]
AAA 23 For behold, in that day that they shall rebel against Me,
AA-B I will curse them even with a sore curse,
AA–C and they shall have no power over thy seed
AA—D except they shall rebel against Me also.
AA–C 24 And if it so be that they rebel against Me,
AA-B they shall be a scourge unto thy seed,
AAA to stir them up in the ways of remembrance.

Deuteronomy 28:11
A And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the Lord [YHWH] thy God [Elohim],
B to observe and to do all His commandments [law / Torah] which I command thee this day,
C that the Lord [YHWH] thy God [Elohim] will set thee on high above all nations of the earth:

Deuteronomy 28:13
A And the Lord shall make thee the head,
B and not the tail;
A and thou shalt be above only,
B and thou shalt not be beneath;
A if that thou hearken unto the commandments [law / Torah] of the Lord [YHWH] thy God [Elohim],
B which I command thee this day, to observe and to do them:

Back to subject at hand, PLAINLY and PLAINNESS, Deuteronomy 27:8 shows that YHWH’s law / Torah is very plain. FYI the Hebrew word being translated as law is literally Torah. The Hebrew word baar behind plainly also means distinct which itself means separate and different in a way that is clear [obvious] see OneLook distinct.

Deuteronomy 27:8
A And thou shalt WRITE upon the STONES [TABLETS / HEARTS]
B all the WORDS of this LAW [HEBREW: TORAH] very PLAINLY.

Exodus 19:5
A Now therefore, if ye will OBEY MY VOICE indeed,
-B and KEEP my COVENANT [LAW / TORAH],
-B then ye shall be a PECULIAR TREASURE unto Me above all people:
A for all the earth is Mine:

Deuteronomy 7:6
A For thou art an HOLY people unto the Lord [YHWH] thy God [Elohim]:
-B the Lord [YHWH] thy God [Elohim] hath chosen thee
-B to be a special people unto Himself,
A above all people that are upon the face of the earth.

The first place I place I saw this Hebrew Idiom in the Book of Mormon was Alma (LDS 5:43) (RLDS 3:71-72). The OR in A-BB is telling us that “ACCORDING to the COMMANDMENTS OF ELOHIM” is another way of saying PLAINLY.

Alma (LDS 5:43-49) (RLDS 3:71-86)
AAA 43 And now, my brethren, I would that ye should hear me,
AAB for I speak in the energy of my soul;
A-BA for behold, I have spoken unto you PLAINLY that ye cannot err,
A-BB OR [IN OTHER WORDS] have spoken ACCORDING to the COMMANDMENTS OF GOD [ELOHIM].
AAA 44 For I am called to speak after this manner [teaching the commandments],
AAB according to the HOLY ORDER OF GOD [ELOHIM],
-BA which is in Christ [the Messiah] Jesus [Yeshua];
-B-B yea, I am commanded to stand and testify unto this people
-B-B the things which have been spoken by our fathers
-BA concerning the things which are to come [prophecy].
–CA 45 And this is not all. Do ye not suppose that I know of these things [to come] myself?
–C-B Behold, I testify unto you that I do know that
–C-B these things whereof I have spoken are true.
–CA And how do ye suppose that I know of their surety?
—D 46 Behold, I say unto you they [things to come] are made known unto me by the HOLY SPIRIT [LAW / TORAH] OF GOD [ELOHIM].
—-E Behold, I have fasted and prayed many days
—–F that I might know these things [to come] of myself.
—-E And now I do know of myself that they are true;
—DA for the Lord [YHWH] God [Elohim] hath made them [things to come] MANIFEST unto me by HIS HOLY SPIRIT [LAW / TORAH];
—DB and this is the spirit of REVELATION [PROPHECY] which is in me.
–CA 47 And moreover, I say unto you that it has thus been REVEALED unto me,
–C-B that the words which have been spoken by our fathers are true,
–C-B even so according to the spirit of PROPHECY [REVELATION] which is in me,
–CA WHICH IS also by the MANIFESTATION of the [HOLY] SPIRIT [LAW / TORAH] OF GOD [ELOHIM].
-BAA 48 I say unto you, that I know of myself [forgiven] that whatsoever I shall say unto you,
-BAB concerning that which is to come, is true;
-B-BA and I say unto you, that I know that Jesus [Yeshua] Christ [the Messiah] shall come,
-B-BB yea, the Son, the Only Begotten of the Father, full of grace, and mercy, and truth.
-BAA And behold, it is He that cometh to take away the sins of the world,
-BAB yea, the sins of every man who steadfastly believeth on His name [authority].
AA 49 And now I say unto you that this is the ORDER after which I am called,
A-B yea, to preach unto my beloved brethren [prophets are types of Yeshua],
A–C yea, and every one that dwelleth in the land;
A—D yea, to preach unto all,
A—D both old and young,
A–C both bond and free;
A-BA yea, I say unto you the aged [past],
A-BB and also the middle aged [present],
A-BC and the rising generation [future];
AA yea, to cry unto them that they must REPENT and be BORN AGAIN [NEW WAY OF LIFE].

Both A stanzas deal with calling people to repentance by teaching them PLAINLY or in other words ACCORDING to the COMMANDMENTS OF ELOHIM, which is what the Holy Order is about, not teaching pretended mysteries. Part of one of the definitions of ORDER is precept which is another word for commandment as I talk about in Precept, Line and Sermon on the Mount.

Alma (LDS 13:17-19) (RLDS 10:11-15)
A 17 Now this Melchizedek was a king over the land of Salem;
-BA and his people had waxed strong in iniquity and abomination;
-B-B yea, they had all gone astray;
-BA they were full of all manner of wickedness;
–CA 18 But Melchizedek having exercised mighty faith, and received the office of the high priesthood according to the HOLY ORDER of God [Elohim],
–CB did PREACH REPENTANCE unto his people.
-BA And behold, they did REPENT;
-BB and Melchizedek did establish PEACE in the land in his days;
AA therefore he was called the prince of peace,
A-B for he was the king of Salem;
A–C and he did reign under his Father [Leader / YHWH].
A-BA 19 Now, there were many before him,
A-BB and also there were many afterwards,
A-BC but none were greater;
AA therefore, of him they have more particularly made mention.

1828 Webster’s Dictionary, ORDER:
noun:
6) Mandate; precept; command; authoritative direction. I have received an order from the commander in chief. The general gave orders to march. There is an order of council to issue letters of marque.
7) Rule; regulation; as the rules and orders of a legislative house.
8) Regular government or discipline. It is necessary for society that good order should be observed. The meeting was turbulent; it was impossible to keep order
verb transitive:
1) To regulate; to methodize; to systemize; to adjust; to subject to system in management and execution; as, to order domestic affairs with prudence.
2) To lead; to conduct; to subject to rules or laws.
3) to direct; to command. the general ordered his troops to advance.
6) To direct; to dispose in any particular manner.
verb intransitive:
1) to give command or direction.

Alma (LDS 5:43-49) (RLDS 3:71-86) also brings out how the law / Torah has prophecy in it. The prophecy this passage focuses on is the greatest, namely the first coming of Yeshua / Jesus wherein He fulfilled the atonement to save a wretch like me.

Connecting 2 Nephi (LDS 1:24) (RLDS 1:40-42) and 2 Nephi (LDS 25:4-5) (RLDS 11:5-8) together also shows us that PLAINNESS is connected to the law / Torah and prophecies. 2 Nephi (LDS 25:5) (RLDS 11:8) also brings out how it is important to know how the Jews think to understand the Hebrew scriptures. For you will not fully understand Hebraic ideas with Hellenistic thought processes. First take note of “and who [Nephi] hath kept the COMMANDMENTS from the time that we left JERUSALEM;” from 2 Nephi (LDS 1:24) (RLDS 1:40-42). Then look at this similar statement in 2 Nephi (LDS 25:4) (RLDS 11:5-7) “wherefore I shall PROPHESY according to the PLAINNESS which hath been with me from the time that I [Nephi] came out from JERUSALEM with my father;”. They are essentially the same statement keeping in mind that PLAINNESS is a Hebrew Idiom for the law / Torah / commandments. 2 Nephi (LDS 25:4) (RLDS 11:5-7) also brings out how PLAINNESS / LAW / TORAH / COMMANDMENTS has prophecy contained within it.

2 Nephi (LDS 1:24) (RLDS 1:40-42)
A Rebel no more against your brother [Nephi],
-B whose views have been glorious,
–C and who hath kept the COMMANDMENTS from the time that we left JERUSALEM;
—D and who hath been an instrument in the hands of God [Elohim],
–C in bringing us forth into the land of promise;
-B for were it not for him, we must have perished with hunger in the wilderness;
AA nevertheless, ye sought to take away his life;
AB yea, and he hath suffered much sorrow because of you.

2 Nephi (LDS 25:4-5) (RLDS 11:5-8)
AA Wherefore, hearken,
A-B O my people,
A-B which are of the house of Israel,
AA and give ear unto my words;
-BA for because the words of Isaiah are not PLAIN unto you,
-BB nevertheless they are PLAIN unto all those that
–CAA are filled with the spirit of prophecy.
–CA-B But I give unto you a prophecy,
–CAA according to the spirit which is in me;
–CBA wherefore I shall PROPHESY according to the PLAINNESS which hath been with me
–CB-B from the time that I [Nephi] came out from JERUSALEM with my father;
–CBA for behold, my soul delighteth in PLAINNESS unto my people, that they may LEARN.
-B 5 Yea, and my soul delighteth in the words of Isaiah,
AA for I came out from Jerusalem,
A-B and mine eyes hath beheld the things of the Jews,
A–C and I know that the Jews do understand the things of the prophets,
A-B and there is none other people that understand the things which were spoken unto the Jews like unto them,
AA save it be that they are taught after the manner of the things of the Jews.

When Nephi tells us how he received a commandment from YHWH to write the small plates in addition to the large plates in 1 Nephi (LDS 19:3) (RLDS 5:223-224), he interchanges PLAIN with INSTRUCTION in –CB-B which is another translation for Torah / law / commandments.

1 Nephi (LDS 19:1-4) (RLDS 5:218-226)
A 1 And it came to pass that the Lord [YHWH] commanded me [Nephi],
-BA wherefore I did make [large] plates of ore
-BB that I might engraven upon them
-BC the record of my people.
-BA And upon the plates which I made
-BB I did engraven
-BC the record of my father,
-BA and also our journeyings in the wilderness,
-BB and the prophecies of my father;
-BC and also many of mine own prophecies have I engraven upon them.
–CAAA 2 And I knew not at the time when I made them [large plates] that I should be commanded of the Lord [YHWH] to make THESE [small] plates;
–CAAB wherefore, the record of my father, and the genealogy of his fathers,
–CA-BA and the more part of all our proceedings in the wilderness
–CA-BB are engraven upon THOSE first [large] plates of which I have spoken;
–CAAA wherefore, the things which transpired before I made THESE [small] plates are, of a truth,
–CAAB more particularly made mention upon the first [large] plates.
–CBAA 3 And after I had made THESE [small] plates by way of commandment,
–CBAB I, Nephi, received a commandment that the MINISTRY [TEACHINGS] and the PROPHECIES,
–CB-B the more PLAIN and PRECIOUS parts of them,
–CB–C should be written upon THESE [small] plates;
–CB-B and that the things which were written should be kept for the INSTRUCTION [LAW / TORAH] of my people,
–CBAA who should possess the land,
–CBAB and also for other wise purposes [losing of the 116 pages],
–CBAC which purposes are known unto the Lord [YHWH].
-BA 4 Wherefore, I, Nephi, did make a record upon the OTHER [large] plates,
-B-B which gives an account,
-B-B or which gives a greater account
-BA of the wars and contentions and destructions of my people.
A And this have I done, and commanded my people what they should do after I was gone;
A-B and that these plates should be handed down from one generation to another,
A-B or from one prophet to another,
A UNTIL further commandments of the Lord [YHWH]. [the commandment stated for a limited time and thus was not modified]

The instance of using the idiom plain in 2 Nephi (LDS 1:25-27) (RLDS 1:43-51) in stanzas -BA is alternated with word of YHWH and boldly which goes with the definitions of PLAINLY and PLAINNESS.

2 Nephi (LDS 1:25-27) (RLDS 1:43-51)
AA 25 And I [Lehi] exceedingly fear and tremble because of you [Laman and Lemuel],
A-B lest he shall suffer again;
A–C for behold, ye have accused him that he sought power and authority over you;
A–C but I know that he hath not sought for power nor authority over you,
A-B but he hath sought the glory of God [Elohim],
AA and your [Laman and Lemuel] own eternal welfare.
-BA 26 And ye have murmured because he hath been PLAIN unto you.
-B-B Ye say that he hath used sharpness;
-B–C ye say that he hath been angry with you;
-B-B but behold, his sharpness was the sharpness
-BA of the power of the WORD [LAW / TORAH] OF GOD [ELOHIM], which was in him;
-B-B and that which ye call anger was the truth,
-B–C according to that which is in God [Elohim],
-B-B which he could not restrain,
-BA manifesting BOLDLY concerning your INIQUITIES.
AA 27 And it must needs be that the power of God [Elohim] must be with him,
A-B even unto his commanding you that ye must obey.
A-B But behold, it was not he, but it was the Spirit [law / Torah] of the Lord [YHWH] which was in him,
AA which opened his mouth to utterance that he could not shut it.

I want to say a few things about the C stanzas before sharing 2 Nephi (LDS 9:47-49) (RLDS 6:94-98). First Jacob wants to awaken people to the awful situation they are in, and you will see that these people have not arisen because they are not being holy or in other words living their lives by holiness by listening and obeying YHWH’s law / Torah. Second Jacob connects PLAIN and PLAINNESS to HOLY and TEACHER, in –CA, which both are aspects of YHWH’s law / Torah as it teaches us how to be holy like Yeshua / Jesus is. Third another way to write –C from 2 Nephi (LDS 9:47) (RLDS 6:94-96) is “Would I be focusing on teaching you YHWH’s law / Torah if you were freed from sin?”.

2 Nephi (LDS 9:47-49) (RLDS 6:94-98)
AA 47 But behold, my brethren, is it expedient that I should
AB awake you to an awful reality of these things?
-BA Would I harrow up your souls
-BB if your minds were pure?
–CA Would I be PLAIN [DIRECT] unto you according to the PLAINNESS [law / Torah] of the truth
–CB if ye were freed from SIN?
—DA 48 Behold, if ye were holy
—DB I would speak unto you of holiness;
–CA but as ye are not HOLY, and ye look upon me as a TEACHER,
–CB it must needs be expedient that I teach you the consequences of SIN.
-BA 49 Behold, my soul
-BB abhorreth sin,
AA and my heart delighteth in righteousness;
AB and I will praise the holy name [authority] of my God [Elohim].

Knowing that plain is a Hebrew Idiom for law / Torah will help you see why judging is so simple, it’s because it is to be done by the law / Torah that YHWH gave us.

Moroni (LDS 7:15) (RLDS 7:13)
A For behold, my brethren, it is given unto you to judge,
-B that ye may know good from evil;
–C and the way to judge is as PLAIN [ACCORDING TO THE TORAH OF YHWH],
-B that ye may know with a perfect knowledge,
A as the daylight is from the dark night.

If there was no law there could be no sin and thus no need of repentance and no need of a Messiah. But I am in need of the Messiah and accepted of Him because I have repented after I have sinned because I broke the law on my own volition.

2 Nephi (LDS 2:5-7) (RLDS 1:67-72)
AA 5 And men are instructed sufficiently that they know good from evil.
A-BAA And the law is given unto men.
A-BAB And by the law no flesh is justified;
A-B-B or, by the law men are cut off.
A-BAA Yea, by the temporal law they were cut off;
A-BAB and also, by the spiritual law they perish from that which is good,
AA and become miserable forever.
-B 6 Wherefore, redemption cometh in and through the Holy Messiah;
–C for He is full of grace and truth.
-B 7 Behold, He offereth Himself a sacrifice for sin,
AA to answer
A-B the ends of the law,
A–C unto all those who
A—D have a broken heart
A—D and a contrite spirit;
A–C and unto none else
A-B can the ends [purpose / goal] of the law
AA be answered.

2 Nephi (LDS 2:10) (RLDS 1:78-80)
AA And because of the intercession for all,
AB all men come unto God [Elohim];
AC wherefore, they stand in the presence of Him,
-BA to be judged of Him according to the truth and holiness which is in Him.
-BB Wherefore, the ends [purpose / goal] of the law which the Holy One hath given,
AA unto the inflicting of the punishment which is affixed,
AB which punishment that is affixed is in opposition to that of the happiness which is affixed,
AC to answer the ends [purpose / goal] of the atonement—

2 Nephi (LDS 2:13) (RLDS 1:88-93)
A And if ye shall say there is no law,
-B ye shall also say there is no sin.
–CA If ye shall say there is no sin,
–CB ye shall also say there is no righteousness.
—D And if there be no righteousness there be no happiness.
—-E And if there be no righteousness nor happiness there be no punishment nor misery.
—D And if these things are not there is no God [Elohim].
–CA And if there is no God [Elohim] we are not, neither the earth;
–CB for there could have been no creation of things,
-B neither to act nor to be acted upon;
A wherefore, all things must have vanished away.

Alma (LDS 42:14-26) (RLDS 19:96-109)
AA 14 And thus we see that all mankind were fallen,
A-B and they were in the grasp of justice;
A-B yea, the justice of God [Elohim],
AA which consigned them forever to be cut off from His presence.
-BA 15 And now, the plan of mercy could not be brought about
-B-B except an atonement should be made;
-BA therefore God [Elohim] Himself atoneth for the sins of the world,
–C to bring about the plan of mercy,
—DA to appease the demands of justice,
—D-B that God [Elohim] might be a perfect,
—DA just God [Elohim], and a merciful God [Elohim] also.
—-E 16 Now, repentance could not come unto men
—–FAA except there were a punishment,
—–FAB which also was eternal as the life of the soul should be,
—–FBA affixed opposite to the plan of happiness,
—–FBB which was as eternal also as the life of the soul.
—–FCA 17 Now, how could a man repent except he should sin?
—–FC-B How could he sin if there was no law?
—–FC-B How could there be a law save there was a punishment?
—–FCA 18 Now, there was a punishment affixed,
——GA and a just law given,
——GB which brought remorse of conscience unto man.
——-H 19 Now, if there was no law given—
——–I if a man murdered he should die—
———J would he be afraid he would die if he should murder?
———J 20 And also, if there was no law given against sin men would not be afraid to sin.
——–IA 21 And if there was no law given,
——–IB if men sinned what could justice do,
——–IC or mercy either,
——-H for they would have no claim upon the creature?
——G 22 But there is a law given,
—–F and a punishment affixed,
—-EA and a repentance granted;
—-EB which repentance, mercy claimeth;
—DAA otherwise, justice claimeth the creature and executeth the law,
—DAB and the law inflicteth the punishment;
—D-B if not so, the works of justice would be destroyed,
—DAA and God [Elohim] would cease to be God [Elohim].
—DAB 23 But God [Elohim] ceaseth not to be God [Elohim],
–C and mercy claimeth the penitent,
-BA and mercy cometh because of the atonement;
-BB and the atonement bringeth to pass the resurrection of the dead;
-BC and the resurrection of the dead bringeth back men into the presence of God [Elohim];
AA and thus they are restored into His presence,
AB to be judged according to their works,
AC according to the law and justice.
-B 24 For behold, justice exerciseth all his demands,
–C and also mercy claimeth all which is her own;
—D and thus, none but the truly penitent are saved.
–C 25 What, do ye suppose that mercy
-BA can rob justice?
-B-B I say unto you, Nay;
-B-B not one whit.
-BA If so, God [Elohim] would cease to be God [Elohim].
AA 26 And thus God [Elohim] bringeth about His great and eternal purposes,
A-B which were prepared from the foundation of the world.
AAA And thus cometh about the salvation and the redemption of men,
AAB and also their destruction and misery.

As I see it every part of the Doctrine of Christ [the Messiah] is connected to His law / Torah.

A Repenting and returning to the law / Torah.
-B Baptism of water is a witness of covenant already made to keep all of His law / Torah.
-B Baptism of fire is a witness you have been judged and found with a broken heart and a contrite spirit and you are then cleansed of your past sins and have been justified by the law / Torah because of Yeshua’s merits.
A Baptism of the Holy Spirit is sanctification by the law / Torah and have it written on your heart and you seek to sin no more and have the express image of Yeshua in your countenance.

Sometimes the Doctrine of Christ [the Messiah] includes enduring to the end which is keeping the commandments to the end of your life even when the world will judge you negatively for doing so. Other times it will include speaking with the tongue of angels which is simply preaching and teaching the law / Torah and calling people to repentance which is telling them to return to YHWH’s law / Torah.

Matthew 5:10-11 (3 Nephi (LDS 12:10-11) (RLDS 5:57-58))
10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.

As we study and come closer to YHWH / Yeshua / Jesus we need to remember we are to LIVE by EVERY WORD that comes from YHWH / Yeshua / Jesus.

Deuteronomy 8:3
AA And he humbled thee,
AB and suffered thee to hunger,
AC and fed thee with manna,
-B which thou knewest not,
-B neither did thy fathers know;
AA that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only,
AB but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the Lord [YHWH] doth man live.

Matthew 4:4
A But he answered and said, It is written,
B Man shall not live by bread alone,
C but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

I urge you to consider taking the Holy Spirit [Ghost] / Torah as your guide. If you are not sure take Yeshua / Jesus at His word in John 7:17, which is a big focus in my Catch and Understand post, for He will answer all sincere seekers and doers.

John 7:17 If any man will DO his will, he shall KNOW OF THE DOCTRINE, whether it be of God [Elohim], or whether I speak of myself.

In closing may we all be pricked in the hearts to repent and return to YHWH’s law / Torah which teaches us how He wants us to act in all situations to be like Him such that we will recognize Him when He comes that we may live with Him for all eternity.

-B 8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth;
A-B Be strong and of a good courage;
A-B be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed:
AA for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.

Alma (LDS 37:20) (RLDS 17:51) Therefore I command you, my son Helaman, that ye be diligent in fulfilling all my words, and that ye be DILIGENT in KEEPING the COMMANDMENTS [LAW / TORAH] of GOD [ELOHIM] AS THEY ARE WRITTEN.

D&C (LDS 84:57) (RLDS 83) (1835 4) (1844 4)
A And they shall remain under this CONDEMNATION until they REPENT
-B and REMEMBER the new [renewed] covenant, even the BOOK OF MORMON
-B and the FORMER COMMANDMENTS [Torah] which I [God] have given them,
A not only to say, BUT TO DO ACCORDING to that which I [Elohim] HAVE WRITTEN.
