JST Isaiah 2 [2 Nephi (LDS 12) (RLDS 28:17-38)]
AAA 1 The word that Isaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem.

AAA and all nations shall flow unto it.
A-BA 3 And many people shall go and say, Come ye,

A-BC of the Lord [YHWH],
A–C to the house of the God [Elohim] of Jacob;
A—DA and He [they] will teach us of His ways,

-BAA 6 Therefore, O Lord [YHWH], thou hast forsaken
-BAB Thy people the house of Jacob,

AA 22 Cease ye from man,
AB whose breath is in his nostrils:
AC for wherein is he to be accounted of?

Isaiah 2:1-2 is how YHWH will establish His ways in the last days showing that they currently are not established because people who claim to follow Him have gone astray as mentioned in the connecting A stanza in last half of Isaiah 2:5 which Joseph Smith restored.

I want to bring out another point from Isaiah 2:2 stanzas AA-B how is the last days people will come to reconize that the traditions they learned from their fathers are not from YHWH Elohim.

Jeremiah 16:19 O Lord, my strength, and my fortress, and my refuge in the day of affliction, the Gentiles shall come unto thee from the ends of the earth, and shall say, Surely our fathers have inherited lies, vanity, and things wherein there is no profit.

The last half of Isaiah 2:5, which Joseph Smith restored, turns out to be a key part that makes it possible for Isaiah 2 to be a complete chiasmus. I want to bring out that Adam Clark’s Commentary on Isaiah 2 says nothing that would suggest that Isaiah 2:5 is missing any text. As far as I know, Joseph Smith never talked about chiasmus in the Book of Mormon or in the Bible. Nor did he show how text he restored was also restoring chiasmus, because he was not trying to find them. It takes a bit of time and thought to find the bigger chiasmus. And there is nothing in the historical accounts of Joseph Smith doing this, which makes it even more miraculous in my mind. In fact the last half of Isaiah 2:5 that Joseph Smith restored is a key part of sub-chiasmus in Isaiah 2:1-5 which is needed to connect it to the other overall A stanza in Isaiah 2:22 which is telling us to stop following the ways of man which causes all to go astray.

Sadly when most people hear the word Torah they have an allergic reaction to it. Yeshua in the New Testament told us that the whole Torah and what the prophets teach us all about how YHWH wants us to love Him and how He wants us to love others in Matthew 22:36-40. Yeshua was not teaching them something new, but was reminding them something that He taught them already.

Matthew 22:36-40
AA 36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law [Torah]?
AB 37 Jesus [Yeshua] said unto him,
-BAA Thou shalt love the Lord [YHWH] thy God [Elohim]
-BA-BA with all thy heart,
-BA-BB and with all thy soul,
-BA-BC and with all thy mind.
-BAA 38 This is the first and great commandment.
-BBA 39 And the second is like unto it,
-BBB Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
AA 40 On these two commandments
AB hang all the law [Torah] and the prophets [taught].

Deuteronomy 6:5
A And thou shalt love the Lord [YHWH] thy God [Elohim]
BA with all thine heart,
BB and with all thy soul,
BC and with all thy might.

Leviticus 19:18
AA Thou shalt not avenge,
AB nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people,
BA but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself:
BB I am the Lord [YHWH].

Leviticus 19:34
A But the stranger that dwelleth with you
-B shall be unto you as one born among you,
–C and thou shalt love him as thyself;
-B for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt:
A I am the Lord [YHWH] your God [Elohim].

Deuteronomy 10:19
A Love ye therefore the stranger:
B for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt.

It should be no surprise then that when we all are learning YHWH Elohim’s Torah, which is all about How He wants us to love Him and others, that we will no longer learn war as taught in stanzas A—D in Isaiah 2:3-4.

Isaiah 2:3-4
A—DA and He [they] will teach us of His ways,
A—D-B and we will walk in His paths [Torah]:
A—D-B for out of Zion shall go forth the law [HEBREW: TORAH],
A—DA and the word of the Lord [YHWH] from Jerusalem.

A—D neither shall they learn war any more.

While reading Adam Clark’s Commentary on Isaiah 2 I noticed how he states that “[t]he sentence is manifestly imperfect” when he is discussing the part of Isaiah 2:6 dealing with soothsayers. As you can below in the quote from Adam Clark’s Commentary on Isaiah 2 there is no suggestion of using the phrase “hearken unto the” as Joseph Smith restored. Without the phrase “hearken unto the” that Joseph Smith restored this part is akward to read and understand what Isaiah is saying here.

And are soothsayers “They are filled with diviners” – Hebrews “They are filled from the east;” or “more than the east.” THE SENTENCE IS MANIFESTLY IMPERFECT. The Septuagint, Vulgate, and Chaldee, seem to have read כמקדם kemikkedem; and the latter, with another word before it, signifying idols; “they are filled with idols as from of old.” Houbigant, for מקדם mikkedem, reads מקסם mikkesem, as Brentius had proposed long ago. I rather think that both words together give us the true reading: מקדם mikkedem, מקסם mikkesem, “with divination from the east;” and that the first word has been by mistake omitted, from its similitude to the second.
Adam Clark, Isaiah 2:6, Adam Clark’s Commentary on Isaiah 2

JST Isaiah 2:6
-BAA 6 Therefore, O Lord [YHWH], thou hast forsaken
-BAB Thy people the house of Jacob,
-B-B because they be replenished from the east [Pagans],
-B-B and hearken unto the soothsayers like the Philistines,
-BA and they please themselves in the children of strangers [marriage and worship].

The sub-chiasmus in Isaiah 2:7 brings out how we are prone to make money and other things we personally make our idols with the connections of the A stanzas. In Yeshua’s / Jesus’ pinnacle discourse I like to call Sermon on Torah but more commonly known as Sermon on the Mount. (I prefer to call it Sermon on Torah because in it Yeshua / Jesus is teaching us how we are to keep Torah. In addition it was given the same time Torah was restored through Moses, Shavuot / Pentecost, as I talk about some about in The Holy Spirit and The Holy Ghost are the Same.) Yeshua / Jesus brings out how we can not server Elohim and mammon which includes money. For me this is another instance how Yeshua / Jesus was bringing the people back to what they had already been taught by YHWH Elohim before.

Isaiah 2:7
–CAA 7 Their land also is full of silver and gold,
–CAB neither is there any end of their treasures;

–CAA 8 Their land also is full of idols;
–CAB they worship the work of their own hands,
–CAC that which their own fingers have made:

Matthew 6:24
A No man can serve two masters:
-B for either he will hate the one,
–C and love the other;
–C or else he will hold to the one,
-B and despise the other.
A Ye cannot serve God [Elohim] and mammon [money].

JST Isaiah 2:9 is an interesting verse to consider with regards to the JST and the chiasmus structure. Joseph Smith restored two “not“s to the verse in oposition to Adam Clark’s Commentary on Isaiah 2 which claims it’s pointing back to the previous verse. This restoration also makes it go along with the corresponding stanza D stanza in Isaiah 2:17 and their pride not their idol worship.

JST Isaiah 2:9
—DA 9 And the mean man boweth not down [to YHWH],
—DB and the great man humbleth himself not [to YHWH]:
—DC therefore [YHWH] forgive them not.

Boweth down “Shall be bowed down” – This has reference to the preceding verse. They bowed themselves down to their idols, therefore shall they be bowed down and brought low under the avenging hand of God.
Therefore forgive them not – “And thou wilt not forgive them.” – L.
Adam Clark, Isaiah 2:9, Adam Clark’s Commentary on Isaiah 2

Isaiah 2:17
—DA 17 And the loftiness of man shall be bowed down,
—DB and the haughtiness of men shall be made low:
—DC and the Lord [YHWH] alone shall be exalted in that day.

Mean and great men don’t bow down to idols. They make others bow down to them and idols they have made of themselves as Nebuchadnezzar did in Daniel 3.

Daniel 3:4-5,12-14,18-19
4 Then an herald cried aloud, To you it is commanded, O people, nations, and languages, 5 That at what time ye hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, dulcimer, and all kinds of musick, ye fall down and worship the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar the king hath set up:
12 There are certain Jews whom thou hast set over the affairs of the province of Babylon, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego; these men, O king, have not regarded thee: they serve not thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up. 13 Then Nebuchadnezzar in his rage and fury commanded to bring Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego. Then they brought these men before the king. 14 Nebuchadnezzar spake and said unto them, Is it true, O Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, do not ye serve my gods, nor worship the golden image which I have set up?
18 But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up. 19 Then was Nebuchadnezzar full of fury, and the form of his visage was changed against Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego: therefore he spake, and commanded that they should heat the furnace one seven times more than it was wont to be heated.

I simply want to say that Daniel 3 is a shadow of Yeshua’s / Jesus’ Second Coming in so many ways including how the image they were told to worship was out of gold and it’s height was 60 cubits and the breadth was 6 cubits pointing to 666. As I bring out in my Charlie and the Chocolate Factory commentary the golden ticket is false worship. When the Israelites were saved from Egypt they were worshipping YHWH how He told them to. The High Holidays are one of the three types of Sabbaths, which YHWH states are a sign or seal. I also want to bring out my good friend Benjamin Sickles from Torah is Eternal lead Scripture Study 2023-08-01 which he expounded Judges 11 showing that is also about the Second Coming and how Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego from Daniel 3 were looking back to Judges 11 for their courage and example of the situation they were going through.

Daniel 3:1 Nebuchadnezzar the king made an image of gold, whose height was threescore cubits, and the breadth thereof six cubits: he set it up in the plain of Dura, in the province of Babylon.

1 Kings 10:14 Now the weight of gold that came to Solomon in one year was six hundred threescore and six talents of gold,

2 Chronicles 9:13 Now the weight of gold that came to Solomon in one year was six hundred and threescore and six talents of gold;

Exodus 31:13 Speak thou also unto the children of Israel, saying, Verily my SABBATHS [plural] ye shall keep: for it is a SIGN BETWEEN ME AND YOU throughout your generations; that ye may know that I am the Lord [YHWH] that doth sanctify you.

JST Isaiah 2:10-11 is a sub-chiasmus that has a few parts that were restored by Joseph Smith that make the chiasmus possible. Including the first A stanza which is in contrast to the second A stanza. Much more significant is how Joseph Smith restored the text “shall smite thee“. While this does make sense with the English translation of H1347 / ga’own as majesty because the wicked cannot withstand YHWH’s glory. But with JST Isaiah 2 being about Yeshua’s Second Coming it makes more sense to translate H1347 / ga’own as redemption because during the Second Coming wich brings to pass physical redemption from Satan and his minions YHWH will literally smite them with rocks and stone them in the center of the earth. As I bring out in Scripture Study 2022-09-24 the Second Coming of Yeshua / Jesus proves stoning is still in the law / Torah otherwise Yeshua / Jesus would be breaking the law / Torah making Him a sinful Elohim which would mean He could no longer be Elohim. Another thing I bring out from the Tanak / Old Testament and the Book of Mormon and the Doctrine and Covenants is that the church has no authority to stone, that falls under the civil responsibilities.

JST Isaiah 2:10-11
—-EA 10 O ye wicked ones,
—-E-B enter into the rock [stoning],
—-E–C and hide ye in the dust [Satan],
—-E—D for the fear of the Lord [YHWH],
—-E—-E and His majesty [redemption] shall smite thee.
—-E—D 11 And it shall come to pass that
—-E–C the lofty looks of man shall be humbled,
—-E-B and the haughtiness of man shall be bowed down,
—-EA and the Lord [YHWH] alone shall be exalted in that day.

JST Isaiah 2:12 has another of how the text that Joseph Smith restored makes these chiasmus possible. Without the text of the first B stanza “soon cometh upon all nations” which goes perfectly with the second B stanza of “and upon every one who is lifted up” this sub-chiasmus for F is not possible. Adam Clark’s Commentary on Isaiah 2 gives no commentary on this verse.

JST Isaiah 2:12
—–FA 12 For the day of the Lord [YHWH] of hosts
—–F-B soon cometh upon all nations;
—–F–C yea, upon everyone;
—–F–C yea, upon the proud and lofty,
—–F-B and upon every one who is lifted up;
—–FA and he shall be brought low:

Adam Clark’s Commentary on Isaiah 2 gives no indication of what Joseph Smith restored in verses 13-16. In fact most of these verses there is no commentary from Adam Clark. The Second Coming of Yeshua is a great day for the righteous and a dreadful one for the wicked. And it will come upon them in judgement, bringing them punishments for the evils the have committed against YHWH and the people. Many of the restorations of Isaiah 2:13-16 make the ABBA pattern with consistent ABC subs possible even to the point the As, the Bs and the Cs go together.

JST Isaiah 2:13-16
—-EAAA 13 Yea, and the day of the Lord [YHWH]
—-EAAB shall come upon all the cedars of Lebanon,
—-EAB for they are high and lifted up,
—-EAC and upon all the oaks of Bashan,
—-E-BA 14 And upon all the high mountains [pagan ceremonies],
—-E-BB and upon all the hills,
—-E-BC and upon all the nations which are lifted up [proud],
—-E-BA 15 And upon every people,
—-E-BB and upon every high tower,
—-E-BC and upon every fenced wall,
—-EAA 16 And upon all the ships of the sea [carriers of the way of the sea beast],
—-EAB and upon all the ships of Tarshish,
—-EAC and upon all pleasant pictures [what looks good but is evil].

There is no indication of the restored text in JST Isaiah 2:19 in Adam Clark’s Commentary on Isaiah 2. The concepts from the text Joseph Smith restored here have been discussed already.

JST Isaiah 2:18-20
–CA 18 And the idols He shall utterly abolish.
–C-B 19 And they shall go into the holes of the rocks,
–C–C and into the caves of the earth,
–C—D for the fear of the Lord [YHWH] shall come upon them,
–C–C and the glory of His majesty [redemption] shall smite them,
–C-B when He ariseth to shake terribly the earth.
–CAA 20 In that day a man shall cast
–CA-BA his idols of silver,
–CA-BB and his idols of gold,
–CA-BC which he hath made for himself to worship,
–CAA to the moles and to the bats [demons];

Adam Clark’s Commentary on Isaiah 2 says nothing for the restorion of “he hath” that Joseph Smith did in Isaiah 2:20, if anything it goes against it as the commentary uses the plural “they”. The commentary also brings out how not all the manuscripts agree with each other.

Which they made each one for himself to worship “Which they have made to worship” – The word לו lo, for himself, is omitted by two ancient MSS., and is unnecessary. It does not appear that any copy of the Septuagint has it, except MS. Pachom, and MS. 1. D. II., and they have ἑαυτοις, להם lahem, to themselves.
Adam Clark, Isaiah 2:20, Adam Clark’s Commentary on Isaiah 2

There is no commentary on Isaiah 2:21 in Adam Clark’s Commentary on Isaiah 2. The concepts from the text Joseph Smith restored here have been discussed already.

JST Isaiah 2:21
-BA 21 To go into the clefts of the rocks,
-B-B and into the tops of the ragged rocks,
-B–C for the fear of the Lord [YHWH] shall come upon them,
-B-B and the majesty [redemption] of the Lord [YHWH] shall smite them,
-BA when He ariseth to shake terribly the earth.

In closing I want to say that JST restorations that Joseph Smith did in Isaiah 2 help make the chapter make more sense and makes the whole chiasmus possible along with sub-chiasmus also. To me showing that it was from YHWH through the prophet Josep Smith.

  1. Hey, your blog is loaded with information. In reference to my post on the two witnesses, there are many opinions on them, but I think that if anyone will read my article, it will give them good food for thought.
