2 Nephi (LDS 10:5) (RLDS 7:9) But because of PRIESTCRAFTS and iniquities, they at Jerusalem will stiffen their necks against Him, that He be crucified.
2 Nephi (LDS 26:29) (RLDS 11:106) He commandeth that there shall be no PRIESTCRAFTS; for, behold, PRIESTCRAFTS are that men preach and set themselves up for a light unto the world, that they may get gain and praise of the world; but they seek not the welfare of Zion.
2 Nephi (LDS 26:31) (RLDS 11:109) But the laborer in Zion shall labor for Zion; for if they labor for money they shall perish.
Mosiah (LDS 2:12) (RLDS 1:43) I say unto you that as I have been suffered to spend my days in your service, even up to this time, and have not sought gold nor silver nor any manner of riches of you;
Mosiah (LDS 2:14) (RLDS 1:46) And even I, myself, have labored with mine own hands that I might serve you, and that ye should not be laden with taxes, and that there should nothing come upon you which was grievous to be borne—and of all these things which I have spoken, ye yourselves are witnesses this day.
Mosiah (LDS 6:7) (RLDS 4:9-11) And king Mosiah did cause his people that they should till the earth. And he also, himself, did till the earth, that thereby he might not become burdensome to his people, that he might do according to that which his father had done in all things. And there was no contention among all his people for the space of three years
Mosiah (LDS 11:3-4,6) (RLDS 7:6-7,9)
3 And he laid a tax of one fifth part of all they possessed, a fifth part of their gold and of their silver, and a fifth part of their ziff, and of their copper, and of their brass and their iron; and a fifth part of their fatlings; and also a fifth part of all their grain. 4 And all this did he take to support himself, and his wives and his concubines; and also his priests, and their wives and their concubines; thus he had changed the affairs of the kingdom.
6 Yea, and thus they were supported in their laziness, and in their idolatry, and in their whoredoms, by the taxes which king Noah had put upon his people; thus did the people labor exceedingly to support iniquity.
Mosiah (LDS 18:24) (RLDS 9:57) And he also commanded them that the priests whom he had ordained should labor with their own hands for their support.
Mosiah (LDS 18:26) (RLDS 9:59) And the priest were not to depend upon the people for they support; but for their labor they were to receive the grace of God, that they might wax strong in the Spirit, having the knowledge of God, that they might teach with power and authority from God.
Mosiah (LDS 27:4) (RLDS 11:153-154) That they should let no pride nor haughtiness disturb their peace; that every man should esteem his neighbor as himself, laboring with their own hands for their support.
Mosiah (LDS 27:5) (RLDS 11:155) Yea, and all their priests and teachers should labor with their own hands for their support, in all cases save it were in sickness, or in much want; and doing these things, they did abound in the grace of God.
Alma (LDS 1:3) (RLDS 1:4-5) And he had gone about among the people, preaching to them that which he termed to be the word of God, bearing down against the church; declaring unto the people that every priest and teacher ought to become popular; and they ought not to labor with their hands, but that they ought to be supported by the people.
Alma (LDS 1:12) (RLDS 1:17-18) But Alma said unto him: Behold, this is the first time that priestcraft has been introduced among this people. And behold, thou art not only guilty of priestcraft, but hast endeavored to enforce it by the sword; and WERE PRIESTCRAFT TO BE ENFORCED AMONG THIS PEOPLE IT WOULD PROVE THEIR ENTIRE DESTRUCTION.
Alma (LDS 1:16) (RLDS 1:24) Nevertheless, this did not put an end to the spreading of PRIESTCRAFT through the land; for there were many who loved the vain things of the world, and they went forth preaching false doctrines; and this they did for the sake of riches and honor.
Alma (LDS 1:20) (RLDS 1:29-30) Yea, they did persecute them, and afflict them with all manner of words, and this because of their humility; because they were not proud in their own eyes, and because they did impart the word of God, one with another, without money and without price.
Alma (LDS 1:26) (RLDS 1:37-39) And when the priests left their labor to impart the word of God unto the people, the people also left their labors to hear the word of God. And when the priest had imparted unto them the word of God they all returned again diligently unto their labors; and the priest, not esteeming himself above his hearers, for the preacher was no better than the hearer, neither was the teacher any better than the learner; and thus they were all equal, and they did all labor, every man according to his strength.
Alma (LDS 30:32) (RLDS 16:40) Now Alma said unto him: Thou knowest that we do not glut ourselves upon the labors of this people; for behold I have labored even from the commencement of the reign of the judges until now, with mine own hands for my support, notwithstanding my many travels round about the land to declare the word of God unto my people.
Alma (LDS 30:33) (RLDS 16:41) And notwithstanding the many labors which I have performed in the church, I have never received so much as even one senine for my labor; neither has any of my brethren, save it were in the judgment-seat; and then we have received only according to law for our time.
Alma (LDS 30:34) (RLDS 16:42) And now, if we do not receive anything for our labors in the church, what doth it profit us to labor in the church save it were to declare the truth, that we may have rejoicings in the joy of our brethren?
Alma (LDS 30:35) (RLDS 16:43-44) Then why sayest thou that we preach unto this people to get gain, when thou, of thyself, knowest that we receive no gain? And now, believest thou that we deceive this people, that causes such joy in their hearts?
Helaman (LDS 7:5) (RLDS 3:3-4) Condemning the righteous because of their righteousness; letting the guilty and the wicked go unpunished because of their money; and moreover to be held in office at the head of government, to rule and do according to their wills, that they might get gain and glory of the world, and, moreover, that they might the more easily commit adultery, and steal, and kill, and do according to their own wills-
Helaman (LDS 13:28-29) (RLDS 5:38-40)
28 Yea, ye will lift him up, and ye will give unto him of your substance; ye will give unto him of your gold, and of your silver, and ye will clothe him with costly apparel; and because he speaketh flattering words unto you, and he saith that all is well, then ye will not find fault with him. 29 O ye wicked and ye perverse generation; ye hardened and ye stiffnecked people, how long will ye suppose that the Lord will suffer you? Yea, how long will ye suffer yourselves to be led by foolish and blind guides? Yea, how long will ye choose darkness rather than light?
3 Nephi (LDS 13:14) (RLDS 5:107) Ye cannot server God and [money].
3 Nephi (LDS 16:10) (RLDS 7:34-35) And thus commandeth the Father that I should say unto you: At that day when the Gentiles shall sin against my gospel, and shall reject the fulness of my gospel, and shall be lifted up in the pride of their hearts above all nations, and above all the people of the whole earth, and shall be filled with all manner of lyings, and of deceits, and of mischiefs, and all manner of hypocrisy, and murders, and PRIESTCRAFTS, and whoredoms, and of secret abominations; and if they shall do all those things, and shall reject the fulness of my gospel, behold, saith the Father, I will bring the fulness of my gospel from among them.
3 Nephi (LDS 20:38) (RLDS 9:76) For thus saith the Lord: Ye have sold yourselves for naught, and ye shall be redeemed without money.
3 Nephi (LDS 21:19) (RLDS 9:105) And it shall come to pass that all lyings, and deceivings, and envyings, and strifes, and PRIESTCRAFTS, and whoredoms, shall be done away.
3 Nephi (LDS 30:2) (RLDS 14:2-3) Turn, all ye Gentiles, from your wicked ways; and repent of your evil doings, of your lyings and deceivings, and of your whoredoms, and of your secret abominations, and your idolatries, and of your murders, and your PRIESTCRAFTS, and your envyings, and your strifes, and from all your wickedness and abominations, and come unto me, and be baptized in my name, that ye may receive a remission of your sins, and be filled with the Holy Ghost, that ye may be numbered with my people who are of the house of Israel.
Mormon (LDS 8:32) (RLDS 4:41) Yea, it shall come in a day when there shall be churches built up that shall say: Come unto me, and for your money you shall be forgiven of your sins.
Mormon (LDS 8:33) (RLDS 4:42-44) O ye wicked and perverse and stiffnecked people, why have ye built up churches unto yourselves to get gain?
Mormon (LDS 8:37) (RLDS 4:50) For behold, ye do love money, and your substance, and your fine apparel, and the adorning of your churches, more than ye love the poor and the needy, the sick and the afflicted.
